This paper provides a design framework for integration of business Process Execution Language (BPEL), Grid computing and e-governance applications. BPEL is an XML-based language for defining business processes that provides an interoperable, portable language for both abstract and executable processes. It integrates with XPath, XSLT and XQuery for XML data manipulation. A Grid refers to an infrastructure that involves the integrated and collaborative use of all computing resources into a single virtual computing environment. E-Governance enables citizens to make best use of automated administration processes that are accessible online. In this paper, we provide details on how BPEL and grid can be integrated to provide e-governance services. Grid services exploit an emerging distributedcomputing technology that offers possibilities for distributed resource sharing and collaboration. The standards for WSRF (Web Service Resource Framework) have allowed grid services to converge more closely on web services. This has resulted in BPEL (business Process Execution Logic) as a standard way of orchestrating web services. It will be seen how BPEL has been adapted for this purpose, using Active BPEL as the orchestration engine and Globus Toolkit 4 as the grid service container. The problems arising with orchestrating grid services are discussed, along with possible workarounds.

Most of the task allocation models & algorithms in distributedcomputing System (DCS) require a priori knowledge of its execution time on the processing nodes. Since the task assignment is not known in advance, this time is quite difficult to estimate. We propose a cluster-based dynamic allocation scheme, in a distributedcomputing system, which eliminate this time requirement. Further, as opposed to a single task allocation, generally proposed in most of the models, we consider multiple tasks. A fuzzy function is used for both the module clustering and processor clustering. Dynamic invocation of clustering and assignment is considered. Experimental results show the efficacy of the proposed model.

Non-dedicated loosely coupled systems are popular platforms for cluster- and grid-based parallel processing, fundamentally because they have good cost-performance ratios and are scalable. However, these platforms represent highly dynamic environments in which performance and efficiency can be seriously impacted by changes in environmental conditions. This is especially significant where the runtime configuration has been determined statically, either at compilation time or at the start of execution. This paper introduces the concept of agile parallel processing in which the application manages several aspects of its own run-time behaviour, including deployment granularity. This approach reduces the emphasis on the preconfiguration of components, and relies instead on inbuilt learning and discovery capabilities. To facilitate investigation into the extent to which a self-managing approach can be beneficial to parallel processing, an experimental framework has been developed. The framework provides a range of services such as dynamic worker discovery and performance calibration, and policy-controlled facilities such as resource management and adaptation to suit environmental conditions. The framework integrates these services with the parallel application code. The operation and performance of policy-based dynamic deployment scheduling in dynamic environments is analysed in detail.

distributed software systems are the basis for innovative applications (e.g., pervasive computing, telecommunication services, and Grid utility services). The key for achieving survivable and maintainable distributed systems is agility because otherwise the non-deterministic nature of distribution would leave the system uncontrollable. Survivability is defined as the capability of a service to fulfill its mission in a timely manner, even in the presence of attacks, failures, or accidents. Because of the severe consequences of failure, organizations are focusing on service survivability as a key risk management strategy for business processes. There are three key survivability properties: resistance, recognition, and recovery. Recovery, a hallmark of survivability, is the capability to maintain critical components and resource during attack, limit the extent of damage, and restore full services following attack. Exception handling is a way to deals with the recovery aspect of survivability. business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL) has been proposed for formal specification of business processes and interaction protocols. BPEL defines an interoperable integration model that facilitates expansion of automated process integration in both intra- and inter-corporate environments. A business process description requires the specification of both the normal flow and the possible variations due to exceptional situations that can be anticipate and monitored. This paper bridges the analysis of business process survivability and its recovery aspect in terms of exception handling in the context of BPEL. We propose an integrated approach to engineer a survivable distributed system through dynamic regeneration of work/low specifications when the system encounters attacks and failures.
