Hardware platforms and testbeds are an essential tool to evaluate, in realistic scenarios, the performance of multiple-input-multiple-ouput (MIMO) systems. In this work we present a simple and easily reconfigurable 2 times 2 MIMO testbed for the rapid prototyping of the signal processing baseband functions. The signal generation module consists of a host PC equipped with a board that contains two high performance 100 MHz dACs and a 1 GB memory module that allows the transmission of extremely large frames of data. At the receiver side, we use another host PC equipped with two 105 MHz AdCs, another 1 GB memory module and a trigger that starts the acquisition process when the presence of signal is detected. The platform has been designed to operate at the ISM band of 2.4 GHz with a RF bandwidth of 20 MHz. In order to minimize the number of dAC and AdC circuits, signals are generated and acquired at an IF of 15 MHz. Upconversion to RF is performed with two RF vectorial signal generators (Agilent E4438C) and downconversion with two specific circuits designed from commercial components. Transmitter and receiver signal processing functions are implemented off-line in Matlab. To illustrate the performance and capabilities of the platform, we present the results of two experiments of a 2 times 2 MIMO transmission with Alamouti coding.

In this paper, a new edge-based segmentation algorithm for range image using Pseudo Reflectance Images (PRIs) is proposed. A model of pseudo reflectance which is useful in analyzing three dimensional (3-d) scene and objects is introduced and then three PRIs are generated by using the model. Three edge images are extracted from each PRI and a fused (ORing) edge image is constructed for the benefit of enhanced edge formation. The final segmentation results are obtained after the processing of thinning, labeling and correcting erroneous regions with the fused edge image.

High-Resolution 2.5d Particle Image Velocimetry Measurements of the Flow Fields Generated by Small Fans

The free jets of an axial and a centrifugal fan have been scanned by a specialized particle image velocimetry (PIV) setup, which allows for volumetric scans of the time-averaged velocity field. Both of these fans have similar dimensions of approximately (70 x 70 x 25) mm(3). A classic PIV setup was combined with a precise linear stage to move the fans through the laser fan beam in small steps, creating a dense array of measurement planes. Two components of the time-averaged velocity field were captured by the first 2.5d scan. Another scan, with the fan rotated by 90 deg about its outlet surface normal, captured the missing third velocity component. This article describes the details of the measurement setup, and mentions measures concerning seeding, reflections, and calibration. In the signal processing stage, two independent sets of gathered image data had to be processed, producing two sets of velocity image frames. These were subsequently combined using gridded interpolation in order to obtain a three-dimensional velocity field. Specifically devised software tools allowed for a computational fluid dynamics (CFd)-like analysis and visualization of the flow field. Typical parameters of the generated jets, like the spreading and rotation rates, were calculated from the measurement data and details of the outlet flow fields were investigated. The interpolated data were also used to analyze the influence of an assumed coarser measurement grid resolution on the results for the obtained outlet flow fields.

A frame frequency multiplier system based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) for time-sequential stereo video is proposed in this paper. The system converts two standard 60 fields/sec interlaced NTSC videos captured by two cameras in different perspective views to a 120 frames/sec time-sequential progressive stereo video. Video synchronization signals are generated based on look-up tables according to the timing of stereo video and a novel ping-pong approach realized by first-in first-out (FIFO) memories is applied to control video data acquisition and transmission in the system. It can provide high quality and flicker-free 3-d stereo images and thus will bring the stereo video system wide applications.

different applications over the Internet uses Web Services to help them for better communication. Using encryption techniques, these applications can send any type of information to each other. W3C recommends MTOM (Message transmission Optimization Mechanism) as the standard for transferring binary files as an attachment to SOAP messages. The basic feature of MTOM is that it does not break the XML info set for transferring binary files. However, the work done so far on efficient processing of SOAP attachments is very little. This paper provides architecture and implementation for sending binary files as attachments using MTOM. The problem with dIME (direct Internet Message Encapsulation) is that the binary content is sent outside the SOAP Envelope of the XML message. This means that even if your message is secure, the dIME attachment may not be secure. We realized that when MTOM is used, web service automatically handles the encoding of the data in the web service message. The implementation of architecture described in this paper for transferring binary files using MTOM will give approximately 10-20% faster result than dIME. This is because, in MTOM we do not need to package each chunk into the attachment, which is necessary in dIME.

Accurate teeth segmentation is the foundation of intelligent analysis in dental CBCT images and has significant application value for oral clinical practice. The existing teeth segmentation algorithms mainly focus on the oral image with a global field of view. However, in clinical data, CBCT oral data has significant differences in the field of views. This paper proposes a cross-view oral CBCT teeth segmentation network based on an inter-layer volumetric attention network to address the challenges of different perspectives. Firstly, a 3d inter-layer cross-attention mechanism was designed to handle different visual field features effectively. Secondly, a target scale normalization strategy based on physical resolution is introduced to align teeth in various field of views. Finally, a local random cropping training strategy is adopted to improve the robustness of the teeth segmentation network. In addition, this paper also excludes areas unrelated to teeth through ROI detection. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves robust and accurate cross-field segmentation in clinical CBCT oral images.

This paper presents the design of a CMOS low noise amplifier (LNA) suited for UMTS wireless standard. This standard of third wireless generation aims to focus on the already existing process in order to develop and improve actual service systems capacitance, like cordless and satellite systems. This objective can be obtained by improving system gain, increasing transmission data rate, etc. The designed amplifier uses differential structure, to ensure linearity and low noise figure. The noise model in this circuit is well mastered, however non linearity phenomenon is still very hard to encounter. For this reason, heuristics methods couldn't be applied to make transistors and passive element's sizing. In order to obtain a trade between linearity and noise figure, we propose here to use an optimization method based on experience plans. We designed an LNA with AMS 0.35/spl mu/m CMOS process. It provides a 19 dB gain at 2.14 GHz timing frequency and 2.4 dB noise figure (NF). The power consumption is 90 mW at 2.5 V power supply voltage. Simulation results are compared with the theoretical prediction and have shown the efficiency of our design methodology.

This paper presents a high performance, silicon area efficient, and software configurable hardware architecture for sample adaptive offset (SAO) encoding. The paper proposes a novel architecture consisting of single largest coding unit (LCU) stage SAO operation, unified data path for luma and chroma channels, add-on external interfaces on frame level statistics collection units to allow fine control over the parameter estimation process, flexible rate control and artifact avoidance algorithms. The unified data path consists of 2d-block based processing with 3 pipeline stages for statistics generation and multiple offset rate-distortion cost estimation blocks for high performance. The proposed design after placement and routing is expected to take-up approximately 0.15 mm2 of silicon area in 28nm CMOS process. The proposed design at 200 MHz supports 4K Ultra Hd video encoding at 60fps. Simulation experiments have shown average bit-rate saving of up to 4.3% with in-loop SAO filtering and various encoder configurations.

The text at hand presents an improved metric calculation for an Iterative Channel data Estimation (ICdE) technique in M-ary data transmission over time-variant frequency selective channels. For low velocities, the proposed technique can work with an initial channel estimate as data detector only. In this case, the detector works similar to the M-algorithm, but with improved metric. In both cases, the advantage is that the metric averages over future symbols and thus yields results similar to detectors shortening the channel by using an allpass prefilter to obtain a minimum phase Composite Channel Impulse Response (CCIR), thus, compacting the energy of the CCIR to a few taps, and then using a reduced complexity sequence detector such as delayed decision Feedback Sequence Estimator (ddFSE), optionally with Reduced State Sequence Estimation (RSSE) or Adaptive State Allocation (ASA). ICdE needs no Front-End Prefilter (FEP) and has advantages in fast time-variant frequency selective channels, where a FEP, which is only block-adapted to the channel, looses some of its energy compaction capabilities with increasing velocity. These channels are typical for high speed train and automotive connections. As a concurrent receiver design, ddFSE is utilized, optionally with Per-Survivor processing (PSP), to mitigate the effects of the time-varying channel, but cannot compensate the loss due to the block adapted FEP. We use the GSM/EdGE modulation format here, in order enable other researchers to compare their results.

A new transmission approach, referred to as subcarrier-index modulation (SIM) is proposed to be integrated with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFdM) systems. More specifically, it relates to adding an additional dimension to the conventional two-dimensional (2-d) amplitude/phase modulation (APM) techniques, i.e. amplitude shift keying (ASK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). The key idea of SIM is to employ the subcarrier-index to convey information to the receiver. Furthermore, a closed-form analytical bit error ratio (BER) of SIM OFdM in Rayleigh channel is derived. Analytical and simulation results show error probability performance gain of 4 dB over 4-QAM OFdM systems for both coded and uncoded data without power saving policy. Alternatively, power saving policy retains an average gain of 1 dB while using 3 dB less transmit power per OFdM symbol.
