The present paper focuses on evaluating the performance of a complex multi-unit computer networking system. Understanding the performance of such systems is crucial for ensuring efficient operation and identifying areas for improvement. The networking system being analysed consists of four interconnected subsystems. This architecture with subsystems connected in series-parallel is commonly found in real-world computernetworks. The present paper considers two types of system failures: degraded failure and total failure. Understanding failure scenarios and their consequences helps in designing resilient systems and developing effective fault-tolerant mechanisms. The study utilises supplementary variables techniques, Laplace transforms, copula and general distribution to analyse and model system's behaviour. The findings can inform the design and optimisation of similar complex networking systems, leading to improved performance, fault tolerance and overall system reliability. The insights gained from this study may also aid in decision-making processes related to network architecture, load balancing strategies and system resilience.

In this paper, we demonstrate a prototype system for path independent local oscillator (LO) synchronization of a distributed beamformer in wireless ad hoc networks. The system contains a low power full duplex (FD) transceiver IC, a RF phase interpolator IC, and a CDMA encoder/decoder to realize a conjugate loop and synchronize the LO's of two RF nodes. Both ICs were fabricated in 180nm CMOS technology. The FD transceiver IC consumes 69mW at 700MHz and the RF phase interpolator IC consumes 75mW at 1.4GHz. Using the low power ICs, we demonstrate a simple, lightweight, and robust methodology to synchronize two LO's with an average phase precision of 2.1 degrees and 94% maximum beamforming gain using RF only transmissions via a single antenna per node.

Modern music delivery contexts include the real time distribution of musical performances as immersive media ('metaverse concerts') to online audiences. This paper details an investigatory deployment of a novel server based spatial audio rendering system for this context, considering distribution to practical wireless Virtual Reality (VR) audience endpoint. Ambisonic auralisation is provided with 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) using a Spatial Impulse Response (SIR) interpolation approach which is efficient for large scale distribution. Binaural audio is distributed to a mobile device at the audience endpoint using low latency Network Music Performance (NMP) streaming software. Improvement in spatial audio rendering is achieved relative to that which is possible on consumer IIIVIDs. Latency measurements suggest acceptable motion sound latency is not. achieved for the mobile device, however may be achievable in other distribution contexts, or with optimised systems.

Temporal Graph Neural networks (TGNNs) extend the success of Graph Neural networks to dynamic graphs. distributed TGNN training requires efficiently tackling temporal dependency, which often leads to excessive cross-device communication that generates significant redundant data. However, existing systems are unable to remove the redundancy in data reuse and transfer, and suffer from severe communication overhead in a distributed setting. This paper presents Sven, an algorithm and system co-designed TGNN training library for the end-to-end performance optimization on multi-node multi-GPU systems. Exploiting dependency patterns of TGNN models and characteristics of dynamic graph datasets, we design redundancy-free data organization and load-balancing partitioning strategies that mitigate the redundant data communication and evenly partition dynamic graphs at the vertex level. Furthermore, we develop a hierarchical pipeline mechanism integrating data prefetching, micro-batch pipelining, and asynchronous pipelining to mitigate the communication overhead. As the first scaling study on the memory-based TGNNs training, experiments conducted on an HPC cluster of 64 GPUs show that Sven can achieve up to 1.7x-3.3x speedup over the state-of-art approaches and a factor of up to 5.26x communication efficiency improvement.
