Generators are a natural fit for expressing concurrency. In dynamic languages such as Icon and Unicon where every expression is a generator that produces a sequence of values until it fails, there is a pervasive opportunity for exploiting concurrency. In this paper we present a simple model of explicit concurrency for generators based on co-expressions and multithreaded generator proxies, called pipes. Co-expressions are coroutines that shadow the environment to prevent interference, while pipes are generator proxies that communicate with the original expression running in a separate thread using blocking queues. Together these two mechanisms are sufficient to express both interleaving as well as true concurrency in the form of parallel pipelining, and to build higher-order abstractions such as map-reduce. We then present techniques for embedding concurrent generators into Java using transformation. We introduce a form of annotations for mixed-language embedding, called scoped annotations, that allow mixing in functionality at the level of expressions, methods, or classes. Transformations over the annotated regions then unravel the syntax of generator expressions to a conventional form by flattening nested generators in order to enable native evaluation and seamless interoperability. Mixed-language embedding allows using the succinct notation of concurrent generators within a familiar object-oriented setting, and enables their use for high-level coordination as well as the prototyping and refinement of parallel programs for multi-core architectures.

There are various shortages of the traditional data center in cost, resource utilization, power consumption and operation. This paper studies the development trend of the virtual data center and its technical advantages, proposes a scheme of virtual system of smart transportation data center based on VMware vSphere. At the same time, oriented on requirements of traffic data stream management in city smart transportation system under the environment of cloud computing, aimed at massive, multi-source, real-time, dynamic uncertain data stream sent back from all kinds of cross regional intensive control perception device, this paper analyses the characteristics and correlation of actual city traffic operation and traffic data flow, researches evolution mechanism of uncertain data;construct traffic data flow model based on ontology, core metadata and theory of constraints. And on this basis, this paper uses virtualization and large data sets of parallel processing, considers load balancing and adaptive mechanism, combines fuzzy theory and dynamic multi object, multi constrained decision theory, to seek the efficient query algorithm for dynamic, complex and continuous transportation data stream. This paper presents a framework for real-time reactive stream processing. The approach is to extend the proposed Java 9 Reactive Streams model and integrate it with the Real-Time Specification for Java. The approach leverages a real-time version of the Java 8 Stream processing framework. Our approach addresses the major issue when using Reactive Streams in real-time: there is no way to set the timeout. Our evaluation shows there is significant improvement in the predictability of stream processing with our framework over that of one implemented using regular Java.

Microsoft released its Robotics Developer Studio (MSRDS) and Visual Programming Language (VPL) in 2006. Microsoft VPL is service-oriented, uses workflow-based visual programming, and has strong support for parallel computing. It is a milestone and flagship in software engineering and in computer science education. Many universities and high schools have adopted VPL as a tool for teaching computing and engineering concepts and for programming robots. Unfortunately, as part of Microsoft's restructuring plan, the robotics division of Microsoft Research was suspended on September 22, 2014, leaving the Microsoft VPL community without updates and support. Arizona State University (ASU) is among the schools that adopted VPL since its first release in 2006. We started to find a solution to our VPL-based curriculum in 2014. This paper presents our research and development of a new visual programming language and its development environment: ASU VIPLE (Visual IoT/Robotics Programming Language environment). ASU VIPLE extends the discontinued Microsoft VPL to sustain our curriculum and to help the community with their VPL projects. ASU VIPLE supports LEGO EV3 and all IoT devices based on an open architecture. ASU VIPLE integrates engineering design process, workflow, fundamental programming concepts, control flow, parallel computing, event-driven programming seamlessly into the curriculum. It has been pilot tested at Arizona State University in summer 2015 and in spring 2016, as well as in several other universities. Currently, novel topologies and advanced resource allocation strategies for multi-tenant cloud datacenters are two research hotspots. Due to the high convenience and efficiency, researchers tend to use simulation to evaluate the proposed topologies or strategies. However, the current network simulators do not support the multi-tenant cloud environment inherently. Moreover, the low simulation speed and high memory consumption limit the traditional packet-level simulators to estimate the scenario of large-scale datacenters. In this paper, we propose a new flow-level network simulator, mtCloudSim, to overcome the above issues. The simulator estimates the data flow's behavior in the real world, i.e., 1) increasing the sending rate when the network is not busy and 2) suspending when the congestion occurs. Bandwidth isolation is inherently provided and users are allowed to define bandwidth requirement for the experiments with our simulator. object-oriented programming (OOP) makes it easy to evaluate novel network topologies. The tracing system is also able to generate abundant and detailed statistics for experiments. The experiments demonstrate that mtCloudSim is available for multi-tenant cloud evaluation.

Emerging hybrid accelerator architectures are often proposed for inclusion as components in an exascale machine, not only for performance reasons but also to reduce total power consumption. Unfortunately, programmers of these architectures face a daunting and steep learning curve that frequently requires learning a new language (e.g., OpenCL) or adopting a new programming model. Furthermore, the distributed (and frequently multi-level) nature of the memory organization of clusters of these machines provides an additional level of complexity. This paper presents preliminary work examining how Fortran coarray syntax can be extended to provide simpler access to accelerator architectures. This programming model integrates the Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) features of Fortran with some of the more task-oriented constructs in OpenMP 4.0 and OpenACC. It also includes the potential for compiler-based transformations targeting the Open Community Runtime (OCR) environment. We demonstrate these CoArray Fortran extensions (CAFe) by implementing a multigrid Laplacian solver and transforming this high-level code to a mixture of standard coarray Fortran and OpenCL kernels.

Survey style or overview measurements are important for performance analysis and monitoring. Here, the goal is to capture sufficient performance information of the target to enable identification and assessment of the performance relevant regions. A full measurement typically exhibits too much overhead and analysts must trade-off data quality with measurement overhead to achieve a suitable performance proxy. This is challenging, especially if the code is complex or unfamiliar, as many current tools rely on manual filtering to reduce the inevitable overhead. Existing semi-automatic approaches, such as call-depth or statement-controlled instrumentation, provide little support as often critical context information, such as the call context, is lost or the remaining measurement data is insufficient. We present a call-tree controlled instrumentation approach that avoids these pitfalls while providing improved overview measurement capability by aggregating the statements of sub-trees and instrumenting regions of likely low overhead. Applied to the ***, *** and DROPS benchmarks we observe low, nearly negligible measurement overhead, of less than 1 percent, while preserving a good representation of the overall application structure and associated performance behavior. Compared to existing methods our new approach provides an much better trade-off between instrumentation overhead and data fidelity and is much less dependent on the particular programming style of an application. In particular, it is well suited for object-oriented coding styles.

We present an efficient and scalable scheme for implementing agent-based modeling (ABM) simulation with In Situ visualization of large complex systems on heterogeneous computing platforms. The scheme is designed to make optimal use of the resources available on a heterogeneous platform consisting of a multicore CPU and a GPU, resulting in minimal to no resource idle time. Furthermore, the scheme was implemented under a client-server paradigm that enables remote users to visualize and analyze simulation data as it is being generated at each time step of the model. Performance of a simulation case study of vocal fold inflammation and wound healing with 3.8 million agents shows 35x and 7x speedup in execution time over single-core and multi-core CPU respectively. Each iteration of the model took less than 200 ms to simulate, visualize and send the results to the client. This enables users to monitor the simulation in real-time and modify its course as needed.

Online auctions are now an immensely popular component of the electronic marketplace. However, there are many fraudulent buying/selling behaviours that can occur during an auction (e.g., shill bidding, bid shielding, etc.). While researchers are proposing methods for combating such fraud, it is extremely difficult to test how effective these countermeasures are. This is primarily due to it being unethical to engage in fraudulent behaviour just for the purpose of testing countermeasures. Furthermore, there is limited commercial auction data available due to the sensitivities of an online auctioneer being willing to admit that fraud has, or is occurring. In order to test fraud countermeasures in a controlled environment, we have created our own online auction server for conducting auction-related research. This paper presents our experiences with designing and implementing our own online auction system which we call uAuction. At present, there is limited useful literature on auction system design. We present an analysis and design of the auction system by employing Unified Modeling Language (UML) to show the architectural model, subsystems, use cases, activity workflows, class diagram, user interfaces, and system sequence diagrams. Our auction model is grounded in object-oriented techniques and is open source so that other researchers can expand upon our approach.

We present a structured light measurement system to collect high accuracy surface information of the measured object with a good real-time performance. Utilizing phase-shifting method in conjunction with a matching method proposed in this paper which can significantly reduce the noisy points, we can achieve high accuracy and noiseless point cloud in a complex industrial environment. Due to the use of the heterogeneous parallel computation model, the parallelism of the algorithm is developed in a deep way. The OpenMP+CUDA hybrid computing model is then used in the system to get a better real-time performance.
