Design patterns make it easier to reuse successful designs and architectures. Expressing proven techniques as design patterns makes them more accessible to developers of new systems and helps a designer get a design faster. In sequential and object-oriented programming domain design patterns have played a very important role but in parallel programming the application of design patterns is very few. We propose a design-pattern based parallel programming model and implement a parallel programming environment in the SNIP platform to help the developers to build their parallel application system efficiently. The experiment results show our system is effective and competent.

Within an environment of parallel objects, an approach of Structured parallel Programming and the paradigm of the Orientation to objects, shows a programming method based on High Level parallel Compositions or HLPCs (CPANs in Spanish) by means of classes. The synchronous, asynchronous communication ways and asynchronous future of the pattern of parallel objects (Rossainz and Capel 2005-2), the predefined patterns of communication/interaction of the structured approach, the encapsulation and the abstraction of the Orientation to objects, to provide reusability to this patterns, together with a set of predefined restrictions of synchronization among processes (maxpar, mutex, sync) are used. The implementation of the commonly used communication patterns is explained, by means of the application of the method, which conform a library of susceptible classes of being used in applications within the environment of programming of the C++ and of the standard POSIX of programming with threads.

The aim of the Service oriented Adaptative Java Applications (SOAJA) project is to develop a service-oriented infrastructure, which enables efficient running of Java applications in complex, networked computing Grid environments. The SOAJA environment provides components and services for static and dynamic load balancing based on Java object observation. SOAJA can be used to design large scale computing tasks to be executed based on idle time of processor nodes. Java distributed applications consist of parallel objects which SOAJA allocates to Grid nodes at runtime. In this paper, we present mechanisms and algorithms for automatic placement and adaptation of application objects, in response to evolution of resource availability. These mechanisms enable to control the granularity data processing and distribution of the application on the Grid platform.

Scheduling of unrelated parallel manufacturing cells with limited human resources

In this paper the scheduling of batches of parts within a manufacturing system consisting of M unrelated parallel CNC manufacturing cells and employing a limited workforce capacity is investigated: the objective is to maintain the number R of available workers lower than the number M of the cells leaving unchanged the whole system output. Each cell of the system consists of a CNC machining centre which works batches of small mechanical parts, grouped together on a common pallet in accordance to the group technology principles. Batch splitting among CNC cells is not allowed and the setup time required by each batch is both sequence and cell dependent. The setup activities are fully performed by the workers employed within the manufacturing system;the working operations within the CNC cells are completely automated, thus the workers tasks are restricted only to the setup operations. The effect of reducing the human resource capacity on scheduling of parts within cells, and on several process performance measures, is investigated through an extensive design of experiment involving different process scenarios. The process activities and resources dynamics are simulated and optimized by means of an integrated simulation framework, consisting of an object-oriented simulator interfaced with a heuristic procedure, designed within the eM-Plant software environment. The obtained results show how the human resource can be maintained significantly lower than the number of cells without affecting the output of the manufacturing system.

Collaborative commerce and design environment is characterized by of its numerous users, massive resources and dynamic change. In order to solve security problems coming from multi-domain, heterogeneity and dynamics, the security architecture for collaborative commerce and design environment was constructed throuth adoptting Internet Protocol Security(IPSec), Secure Socket Layer(SSL), Simple object Access Protocol Security(SOAPSec). The enabling technologies including IPSec-based Virtual Private Net(VPN), secure e-commence and cooperation framework, digital authentication and encryption of data were discussed in detail. The architecture and the enabling technologies provided the security mechanism amongst the partners to realize business collaboration, design collaboration in network business pattern.

Dynamic load balancing is a key factor in achieving high performance for large scale distributed simulations on grid infrastructures. In a grid environment, the available resources and the simulation's computation and communication behavior may experience run-time critical imbalances. Consequently, an initial static partitioning should be combined with a dynamic load balancing scheme to ensure the high performance of the distributed simulation. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic load balancing scheme for distributed simulations on a grid infrastructure. Our scheme is composed of an online network analyzing service coupled with monitoring agents and a run-time model repartitioning service. We present a hierarchical scalable adaptive JXTA service based scheme and demonstrate through simulation experiments that our proposed scheme exhibits better performance in terms of the simulation execution time.

In the dynamic e-Business environment, it is desirable for a service to meet the requirements of different users. The current available technologies rather supports a service with a single fixed business process without considering user needs. Such design makes it difficult for user to integrate the provided service, hence obstruct the service provider to expand the business. In this paper we proposed an alternative service design method - Adaptive Service Design. Inspired by the concept of Abstraction and Polymorphism in object oriented computing, service adaptation allows an Abstract Business Process class to be configured by Policy and user required interface, hence dynamically generate multiple business processes to meet different user interaction requirements. As an emergence technology, P2P is spreading to distributed simulation area, and many distributed simulation frameworks have used P2P as the middleware to interconnect their existing single processor's simulators to fibrin distributed environments for simulation execution. In terms of simulation time management, most existing tools use a middleware layer to implement and support time management in a heterogeneous networking environment. and therefore, it is generally not easy, v to migrate a single processors simulation to multi-processors in these frameworks. In this paper, we present a P2P based distributed simulation time management based upon JXTA API and Service oriented Architecture (SOA), and we focus our discussion on how we implement the time management as a JXTA peer and a JXTA group service. Our time management is actually, a native distributed message passing management framework, and does not rely on any middleware layer. Furthermore, we evaluate the performance of our implementations using a local Linux cluster. This work will establish a solid foundation for the more advanced distributed simulation services that have been proposed in our project [1].
