GPU computing has matured to include advanced C++ programming features. As a result, complex applications can potentially benefit from the continued performance improvements made to contemporary GPUs with each new generation. Tighter integration between the CPU and GPU, including a shared virtual memory space, increases the usability of productive programming paradigms traditionally reserved for CPUs, like object-oriented programming. Programmers are no longer forced to restructure both their code and data for GPU acceleration. However, the implementation and performance implications of advanced C++ on massively multithreaded accelerators have not been well studied. In this paper, we study the effects of runtime polymorphism on GPUs. We first detail the implementation of virtual function calls in contemporary GPUs using microbenchmarking. We then propose Parapoly, the first open-source polymorphic GPU benchmark suite. Using Parapoly, we further characterize the overhead caused by executing dynamic dispatch on GPUs using massively scaled CPU workloads. Our characterization demonstrates that the optimization space for runtime polymorphism on GPUs is fundamentally different than for CPUs. Where indirect branch prediction and ILP extraction strategies have dominated the work on CPU polymorphism, GPUs are fundamentally limited by excessive memory system contention caused by virtual function lookup and register spilling. Using the results of our study, we enumerate several pitfalls when writing polymorphic code for GPUs and suggest several new areas of system and architecture research that can help alleviate overhead.

Big data platforms have grown popular for real-time stream processing on distributed clusters and clouds. However, execution of sensitive streaming applications on shared computing resources increases their vulnerabilities, and may lead to data leaks and injection of spurious logic that can compromise these applications. Here, we adopt Moving Target Defense (MTD) techniques into Fast Data platforms, and propose MTD strategies by which we can mitigate these attacks. Our strategies target the platform, application and data layers, which make these reusable, rather than the OS, virtual machine, or hardware layers, which are environment specific. We use Apache Storm as the canonical distributed stream processing platform for designing our MTD strategies, and offer a preliminary evaluation that indicates the feasibility and evaluates the performance overheads.

With the development of software architecture and the concept of cloud computing, cloud Nativity has gradually become one of the most concerned concepts in the software industry. In cloud-native platform, Kubernetes is a micro-service style application architecture and choreography tool. It solves the complexity of software system through business logic modularization, and provides many primitives and abstract concepts of distributed application, and it provides an object-oriented distributed application construction idea. This paper designs and studies the cloud native application architecture based on Kubernetes to solve the performance monitoring and security problems of micro-service. The architecture has the following characteristics: decouples the environment related functions such as database deployment, performance detection deployment, service request security verification function and the main application, so that the micro-service applications pay more attention to the implementation of business logic; At the same time, based on the second level deployment of container, the above functional modules can be highly reused and the development cost can be reduced.

DAG task model is a general parallel task model that has been widely concerned and studied by researchers. The combination of mixed-criticality and DAG task model makes it difficult to analyze system behaviors. Under federated mixed-criticality scheduling algorithm, tasks are physically isolated with regard to computation resources, which leads to lower analysis complexity and better performance. However, federated mixed-criticality scheduling algorithm suffers resource waste as in federated scheduling, and almost half of processor resources can be wasted in extreme cases. In this paper, we address the problem and propose a novel semi-federated mixed-criticality algorithm (SFMC). SFMC combines semi-federated scheduling with mixed-criticality systems, whose original architecture is changed to a dual-hierarchical one. When analyzing the combined system, we first allocate finer-grained processor resources to each MC DAG task, then we prove the correctness of the SFMC algorithm in both normal and critical states. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on randomly generated independent DAG task sets based on OpenMP benchmarks. Experiment results present that our algorithm has better performance on schedulability than the federated mixed-criticality scheduling algorithm.

As IoT and robotics applications continue to become increasingly complex and decentralized, there is an increase in the difficulty of verifying requirements such as guarantees of reliability, efficiency, and correctness of the entire system. Modern IoT and robotics research and applications employ a variety of technologies to accommodate the distribution of real world IoT devices. Many of these technologies support the orchestration of these devices with concurrent computation and workflow-based processing, e.g., Intel Service Orchestration Layer. We developed a new workflow-based programming language VIPLE (Visual IoT/Robotics Programming Language environment), which supports the orchestration of decentralized IoT and robotics devices through concurrent computation. VIPLE has been used by many universities for teaching robotics programming, event-driven computing, service-oriented computing, and parallel computing concepts. Historically, simple single threaded applications could be verified by employing formal systems such as Hoare logic. It is difficult to verify parallel and distributed computing. In our recent research, we developed a novel system to verify the semantics and other requirements of decentralized applications written in VIPLE. This system is developed using a combination of the techniques offered in Hoare logic and Rely-Guarantee logic, and it is applied using the automatically generated Pi-Calculus representation of VIPLE applications. This paper focuses on the foundations of this system, its ability to handle concurrent computing and decentralized applications, as well as its ability to support automated verification and semantic analysis.

With the strong computation capability, NUMA-based multi-GPU system is a promising candidate to provide sustainable and scalable performance for Virtual Reality (VR) applications and deliver the excellent user experience. However, the entire multi-GPU system is viewed as a single GPU under the single programming model which greatly ignores the data locality among VR rendering tasks during the workload distribution, leading to tremendous remote memory accesses among GPU models (GPMs). The limited inter- GPM link bandwidth (e.g., 64GB/s for NVlink) becomes the major obstacle when executing VR applications in the multi-GPU system. By conducting comprehensive characterizations on different kinds of parallel rendering frameworks, we observe that distributing the rendering object along with its required data per GPM can reduce the inter-GPM memory accesses. However, this object-level rendering still faces two major challenges in NUMA-based multi- GPU system: (1) the large data locality between the left and right views of the same object and the data sharing among different objects and (2) the unbalanced workloads induced by the software- level distribution and composition mechanisms. To tackle these challenges, we propose object-oriented VR rendering framework (OO-VR) that conducts the software and hardware co-optimization to provide a NUMA friendly solution for VR multi-view rendering in NUMA-based multi-GPU systems. We first propose an object-oriented VR programming model to exploit the data sharing between two views of the same object and group objects into batches based on their texture sharing levels. Then, we design an object aware runtime batch distribution engine and distributed hardware composition unit to achieve the balanced workloads among GPMs and further improve the performance of VR rendering. Since the existing works in data stream anomaly detection mainly locate abnormal objects from data sequences instead of detecting the abnormal state of a monitored object in real-time. And they need a set of empirical predefined thresholds, which may affect the flexibility of the detection models. These limitations make the existing solutions no longer suitable for the real-time detection of the changes in the status of the monitored object. In this paper, we propose a new Abnormal conditions Detection approach (ADCMO) on the Continuously Monitored object. ADCMO incorporates the data distribution property to carry out the anomaly quantification for the data in the data stream, and then the abnormal conditions of the monitored object are quantified by the anomaly information of the current data and historical data. Finally, the anomaly state is adaptively determined by the distribution of anomaly coefficients. ADCMO can detect the changes in the status by calculating the outlier coefficient of the object at each moment and adaptively make the abnormal early warning. The experiments show that ADCMO can do this any-time, dynamically, efficiently and effectively.

Embedded systems are growing very complex because of the increasing chip integration density, larger number of chips in distributed applications and demanding application fields e.g. in autonomous cars. Bio-inspired techniques like self-organization are a key feature to handle the increasing complexity of embedded systems. In biology the structure and organization of a system is coded in its DNA, while dynamic control flows are regulated by the hormone system. We adapted these concepts to embedded systems using an artificial DNA (ADNA) and an artificial hormone system (AHS). Based on these concepts, highly reliable, robust and flexible systems can be created. These properties predestine the ADNA and AHS for the use in future automotive applications. However, computational resources and communication bandwidth are often limited in automotive environments. Furthermore, in many critical areas, classical AUTOSAR in combination with CAN bus is used as a static operating system. Nevertheless, in this paper we show that the dynamic concept of ADNA and AHS can be successfully applied to a static system like AUTOSAR and the available computational resources are more than sufficient for automotive applications. The major bottleneck becomes the CAN bus communication when implemented on top of AUTOSAR's communication stack as this limits the maximum achievable throughput for a single device to provide bandwidth for numerous different participants. Implementing the CAN bus communication directly through AUTOSAR's CAN driver mostly removed this problem.

Preventing multimedia data in cloud environment from leakage is a significant and imperative issue in the modern information-oriented society. Many encryption schemes have been proposed to convert original images into noise-like images. However, the noise-like images are conspicuous visual signs to attract the attention of attackers, and thus lead to large quantities of attacks. In order to solve the problem, this paper propose a visual encryption scheme to convert an original image into another visually meaningful image to elude the attacker's attention and ensure the security of the image. Image data security is implemented by pre-encryption procedure and the meaningful appearance of encrypted image is based on Least significant bit (LSB) substitution, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme in terms of excellent encryption performance. The proposed scheme can protect original images that require a higher level of security compared with existing encryption schemes.
