The key management service (KMS) has become a fundamental component of cloud computing. For enforce security, existing clouds usually deploy a centralized KMS protected by specialized hardware, i.e., hardware security module (HSM), which is exclusively controlled by the cloud provider. Joint cloud computing (JointCloud) is a new architecture of cloud computing, which makes the best use of the advantage of different clouds. However, in JointCloud, different cloud providers have their respective KMS. Thus it is impossible for one user's different applications in different clouds to share the same key in different KMS. The key stored in KMS will be unreachable after the application is migrated to a new cloud, which makes the encrypted data being unusable. To address these problems, we introduce TZ-KMS which provides a trusted distributed key management service with ARM TrustZone technology. We locate a TZ-KMS instance in the secure world (a trusted execution environment provided by ARM TrustZone) of each machine, and the instance handles requests from the user application. A distributed key management method is further provided to synchronize user keys among different TZ-KMS instances. TZ-KMS allows one user's applications, located in different clouds, to share the same key management service securely. User keys are still reachable after the application is migrated to a new cloud. We have implemented a prototype of TZ-KMS, and the evaluation shows that our system has a good performance and scalability.

Data Stream Processing (DSP) is a widely used programming paradigm to process an unbounded event stream. Often, DSP frameworks are deployed on the cloud with a scalable resource model. One of the key requirements of DSP is to produce results with low latency. With the emergence of IoT, many event sources have been located outside the cloud which can result in higher end-to-end latency due to communication overhead. However, due to the abundance of resources at the IoT layer, Edge computing has emerged as a viable computational paradigm. In this paper, we devise an optimisation framework, consisting of a constraint satisfaction formulation and a system model, that aims to minimise end-to-end latency through appropriate placement of DSP operators either on cloud nodes or edge devices, i.e. deployed in an edge-cloud integrated environment. We test our optimisation framework using OMNeT++, with realistic topologies and power consumption data, and show that it is capable of achieving approximate to 1.65 times reduction of latency compared to edge-only and cloud-only placements, which in turn also reduces the energy consumption per event by up to approximate to 4% at the edge layer. To the best of our knowledge our optimisation framework is the first of its kind to integrate power, bandwidth and CPU constraints with latency minimisation.

In JointCloud computing, the hypervisor used by each cloud plays a key role in providing services and protection for guest virtual machines (VMs). Unfortunately, the commodity hypervisor usually has a considerable attack surface and its memory is especially prone to be tampered with by an attacker who resides in one VM and then threatens the security of other co-located VMs. To mitigate such threat, previous solutions proposed an out-of-the-box design which leverages the nested virtualization to introduce a higher privileged software layer (a nested hypervisor) below the hypervisor. It also installs a security monitor into a trusted VM which is protected by the nested hypervisor and isolated from the untrusted hypervisor. The monitor is responsible for dynamically validating the behaviors of the untrusted hypervisor. Although monitoring from outside of the hypervisor can help ensure security, the large number of context switches caused by the nested virtualization incurs unacceptable overheads and makes this approach unsuitable for the cloud environment. In this paper, we introduce In-Hypervisor Memory Introspection (IHMI), an in-the-box way to monitor the hypervisor based on the nested virtualization. Our system puts the monitor into the untrusted hypervisor for efficiency while guaranteeing the same level of memory security as monitoring the hypervisor from a separated secure VM. By leveraging hardware virtualization features of current processors, IHMI isolates the monitor from the hypervisor via the nested page table and implements an efficient switch between them. Further, IHMI configures a uni-directional mapping for the monitor which allows the monitor to access the hypervisor's memory at native speed while forbidding the hypervisor from accessing the monitor's memory. Our IHMI system is currently still in an early stage and we report our design as well as preliminary evaluation results in this paper.

In recent year, many enterprise put a great deal to construct their business to business solution to increase the strength of their supply chain, only companies that can manage cloud computing ecommerce will survives in the global competition. The goal of this paper is to present an integrated cloud computing architecture and a case study highlighting the best practices for developing Cloud computing system to in shoemaking industry. We developed an electronic purchase order web base system for a shoemaking company with four business units which located in Taiwan, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The research method of our work is based on applying Rational Unified Process and ICAM DEFinition Model (IDEF). We use scenario with Use case and IDEF model to represent the user requirements, and object oriented technology to construct this system. We also derive critical key performance indexes (KPI) to evaluate the benefits as enterprise adopting proposed *** result of the case study shows that this architecture and methodology could enable a reduction in the process time of transactions, reduced processing cost, improved accuracy, efficiency, reliability and security.

As IoT and robotics applications continue to become increasingly complex and decentralized, there is an increase in the difficulty of verifying requirements such as guarantees of reliability, efficiency, and correctness of the entire system. Modern IoT and robotics research and applications employ a variety of technologies to accommodate the distribution of real world IoT devices. Many of these technologies support the orchestration of these devices with concurrent computation and workflow-based processing, e.g., Intel Service Orchestration Layer. We developed a new workflow-based programming language VIPLE (Visual IoT/Robotics Programming Language environment), which supports the orchestration of decentralized IoT and robotics devices through concurrent computation. VIPLE has been used by many universities for teaching robotics programming, event-driven computing, service-oriented computing, and parallel computing concepts. Historically, simple single threaded applications could be verified by employing formal systems such as Hoare logic. It is difficult to verify parallel and distributed computing. In our recent research, we developed a novel system to verify the semantics and other requirements of decentralized applications written in VIPLE. This system is developed using a combination of the techniques offered in Hoare logic and Rely-Guarantee logic, and it is applied using the automatically generated Pi-Calculus representation of VIPLE applications. This paper focuses on the foundations of this system, its ability to handle concurrent computing and decentralized applications, as well as its ability to support automated verification and semantic analysis.

The InSAR Scientific computing environment (ISCE) was first developed under the NASA Advanced Information Systems Technology as a flexible, extensible object-oriented framework for Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) processing. The ISCE framework uses Python 3 at the workflow level, controlling modules of compiled code for functional processing, and managing inputs, outputs, and other flow control services. The currently released version, called ISCE 2.1, is distributed to the research community through the Western North America InSAR Consortium under a research license. The ISCE team is working on the next generation of the code in order to prepare for the NASA-ISRO SAR (NISAR) mission operational processing. Innovations in this code include augmentation or conversion of the custom Python framework elements in ISCE with the Pyre framework, new workflows for interferometric and polarimetric stack processing, a more intuitive and graphically based user interface, and flow control for hybrid computing environments including CPU/GPU clusters, logging and error tracking facilities, and new more efficient computational modules that exploit graphical processor units (GPUs) when available. The ISCE 3.0 framework is designed to work in an operational environment as well as on a single user's laptop or compute cluster, with services to discover capabilities and scale computations accordingly.

Loop closure detection plays a vital role in the visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) system. Traditional Bag-of-Visual-Word (BoVW) methods for loop closure detection has been successfully applied to various SLAM systems. The Convolutional Neural Networks (ConvNets) based methods can automatically learn feature representation from original image, and it is more robust to illumination changes. However, these two methods all have some limitations. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional methods extract insufficient features, and the ConvNets based methods unable to adapt complex environment changes, in this paper, we propose an improved hybrid deep learning architecture (HDLA) to generate high-level semantic image features for loop closure detection specifically. This network is based on hybrid ConvNet modified by us to especially cope with robust and real-time feature extraction. We present extensive experiments on three real world datasets to evaluate each of the specific challenges in loop closure detection. The results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior performances and provides a feasible solution for loop closure detection.

The large software applications of today provide abstractions of the real-life systems that they support. A digital model of the system, and of the changes that occur within, are being maintained and updated, as triggered by real-life events. Morphologically, such applications contain several distinct architectural entities: databases holding the state, central components describing how the system reacts to external events and mechanisms through which the user can view the current state and issue new commands. Each of these entities may use distinct paradigms and employ different technologies. A production-ready software application ends up assembling a relatively high technology stack and provides the final abstractions for both the problem and its solution. In this paper we propose a short-circuit for the long chain of technologies that are usually employed in large, production-ready software applications. The resulting architecture is a distributed, message-based system which behaves as a hybrid between a database and a runtime environment. The system operates with persistent and live entities, encapsulating both state and operations and therefore easily assimilated with OOP classes.
