Current stream processing systems (SPSs) suffer from the imbalanced load and limited parallelism due to skewed data distributions and imbalanced computational resources. We observed that the cause of these problems is current SPSs partition their workloads statically. To address this problem, we design a distributed stream processing system, Marabunta, for skewed stream processing. Marabunta performs dynamic scaling and load balancing automatically at runtime. Large partitions in a skewed data distribution can be processed in parallel or migrated to idle machines to achieve load balancing. Moreover, Marabunta uses a new execution model to accelerate the execution by increases the parallelism and the computational resources utilization. We implemented Marabunta in C++ and optimized it for modern hardware. Our evaluations on typical streaming workloads show that Marabunta achieves higher throughputs and better elasticity with both uniform and skewed datasets compared to the state-of-the-art SPSs, e.g., Flink and Heron.

Energy harvesting (EH) IoT devices have attracted vast attention in both academia and industry as they can work sustainably by harvesting energy from the ambient environment. However, due to the weak and transient nature of harvesting power, EH technology is unable to support power-intensive IoT devices such as IoT edge servers. Therefore, the hybrid IoT system where the EH IoT devices and non-EH IoT devices co-exist is forthcoming. This paper explored the routing problem in such a hybrid distributed IoT system. We first proposed a comprehensive multi-hop routing mechanism of this hybrid system. After that, we proposed a distributed multi-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithm, known as spatial asynchronous advantage actor-critic (SAC), to optimize the system routing policy and energy allocation while maximizing the total amount of transmitted data and the overall data delivery to the sink node. The experiments indicate that SAC can averagely complete at least $\sim 1.5 \times$ transmission rate and $\sim 12.9\times$ Sink packet delivery rate compared with the baselines.

parallel distributed Processing is a relatively new method. distributed cloud connects data and applications delivered by utilizing cloud computing technologies from several geographical locations. When something is distributed in IT, it is transferred among multiple systems located across diverse areas. The expanse of information besides the interval it takes towards analyzing adding to monitoring projected results efficiently and effectively has been dramatically enhanced. This paper presented a system to assist users in doing composite tasks interactively with the least processing time. distributed-parallel-Processing (DPP) and CloudComputing (CC) are the two most great technologies, can process and answer the user problem quickly. Developing a suggested system used several sources (source generators, under-test load, computing machines, and processing units) and (webservers) through the cloud. Hash codes are generated on the client-side and sent towards the webserver. The webserver delivers these does to cracking servers that have been specified. It has been verified that while employing light load (single hash-code) with multi-servers and multiprocessors, the suggested system gives improved efficiency (in terms of Kernel-burst, User-bust, and Total-execution) timings. Although it has been demonstrated that employing large loads (many under-testing codes) with many computing machines using multiprocessors improves the system’s performance. The suggested computational system outperforms it in terms of parallel processing. The proposed method took these situations into account due to the code-breaking influences by two precarious criteria (minimal breaking-time besides cost-effective usage of computer resources).

The surge of Internet of Things (IoT) applications requires distributed systems capable of securely exchanging messages and immutably recording data. While traditional blockchain architectures were not designed with IoT in mind, more recent distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), which are not based on proof of work, can be considered as a solution to deal with the above requirements. However, without proof of work, these ledgers require an explicit way to manage the rate at which messages are issued and disseminated. In this work, we present an access control scheme for IoT-oriented DLTs, that is the mechanism used to choose which messages can be written to the ledger. Our approach aims to efficiently exploit the available network resources (bandwidth, processing power) and to guarantee fair access depending on node reputation. While these concepts have already been touched by well-known areas of networking research, such as TCP and quality of service, in DLT networks this problem is harder since nodes cannot trust familiar feedback measurements, such as packet acknowledgements or congestion notifications. In this paper, we design a completely decentralised mechanism which involves a round robin-based scheduler and a TCP-inspired rate setter. Extensive simulations show that our approach provides fair access, guarantees that all honest nodes eventually receive the same messages, and makes sure that malicious nodes cannot degrade performance or affect security.

This paper reviews the problem of correctness in the context of scaleable distributed systems. It takes the concept of a strongly eventually consistent (SEC) data structure based on the work done on conflict free replicated data types and examines the theoretical basis of a practical application to generalised database management systems. It reasons that the condition required for a database management system to implement a monotonic semilattice and remain generic is not possible. It further proposes a framework which extends the SEC condition to capture enough information to make such a system practical to implement. Finally, it evaluates such an implementation using a modified storage engine for Apache Ignite demonstrating not just its practicality but its scaleability in Ignite and other database management systems like it. The key contributions of this work are Semantic and intent defined conflict free replicated data types, an enriched CRDT which enables generalised database systems to meet the SEC criteria for a monotonic semilattice object and Semantic Intent Configuration Language, SICL, a language and framework for distributed computing.

We report a comparative study on the development of high-performance software for solving the problem of optimal design of multiproduct batch plants on modern parallel systems. We analyze two main algorithmic approaches to optimization - branch-and-bound and metaheuristic-based - and we develop and compare their parallel implementations on a variety of parallel architectures: multi-core CPU, GPU, and clusters. Our experiments on a real-world case study - optimization of chemical-engineering systems - demonstrate the trade-offs between the run time performance and the quality of solutions achieved by different algorithms on various parallel architectures.

In this paper, we propose ECCH, an Erasure Coded Consistent Hashing scheme to make better data placement in distributed storage systems. It combines the inherent advantages of consistent hashing together with the storage-efficiency of erasure coding technology. Specifically, ECCH divides data block stream of files into groups according to block IDs. In each group, it encoded data blocks with additional parity blocks by erasure coding. All encoded blocks in the same group are stored on different nodes with consistent hashing distribution. For node failure or data loss, ECCH locates required data through the ID of missing block in a same group for fast recovery. To deal with node changes, ECCH introduces a design of multi-version hash rings to manage data layout. It can prevent the impact of data migration on erasure coding, while achieving data balance with little data movement. We have implemented ECCH on the Sheepdog, a distributed object-based storage system. Evaluation results show that ECCH can greatly improve the space utilization of hashing-based storage systems, while achieving efficient fault tolerance.

Joining a high number of data streams efficiently in terms of required memory and CPU time still poses a challenge. While binary join trees are very common in database systems, they are mostly unusable for streaming queries with tight latency constraints when the number of streaming sources is increasing. Multiway stream joins, on the other hand, are very suitable for this task since they are mostly independent of the non-optimal ordering of join operators or huge intermediate join results. In this paper, we discuss challenges but also opportunities for multiway stream joins for modern hardware, especially manycore processors. We describe different parallelization and optimization strategies to allow a streaming query to join up to 256 streams on a single CPU while keeping individual tuple response time and also memory footprint low. Our results show that a multiway join can perform magnitudes faster than a binary join tree. In addition, further tuning for efficient parallelism can improve performance again for a factor up to a magnitude.

parallel converters have been widely applied in distributed generations. The use of LCL filter in parallel converters may induce several stability challenges due to the filter resonance. To eliminate the filter resonance related issues, this paper presents a system level design that allows the use of small L filter without sacrificing system current quality. The key of the design is to identify the required number of converters in parallel. The L-filter based design is applicable in systems with either common or separate DC links. In this paper, parallel two-level converters with separate DC links are considered in the design, showing that the required number of converters is irrelevant to system parameters like DC voltage or power rating. Multilevel converters are also included in the study. Furthermore, the behaviour of dominant harmonics in different load condition is also investigated, using common DC link type parallel converters as an example. Simulation results and preliminary experimental results are obtained and presented.

This paper addresses the questions of high-level system modelling using heterogeneous multi-tool modelling environment on parallel multi-core processing systems for simulation acceleration. The modelling technique has been applied for high-level validation of a high-precision Indoor Positioning System for Motion Analysis (IPS-MA) developed in the Central Institute Electronic systems (ZEA-2) of the Research Center Juelich GmbH. The heterogeneous modelling environment has been built using an implementation-level model designed in Matlab Simulink, a verification model for describing the system environment using Modelica language, and Julia language for automatic generation of binding modelling environment and parallelizing the simulation of the overall model. The approach showed a good flexibility in system description and verification in the multi-instrument modelling environment and a good performance gain due to simulation parallelism.
