Energy efficiency is becoming a major concern when running parallel computing systems owing to its impact on system reliability and operating cost. Recent works, that focus on energy efficient execution of task-based parallel applications on multi-core systems, leverage a subset of architectural features (core asymmetry, CPU DVFS and memory DVFS) and application attributes (inter-task parallelism, intra-task parallelism and task characteristics) to achieve this goal. More importantly, they have a fixed target metric and do not provide the flexibility to explore energy performance trade-offs (EPTO). We propose SWEEP, a task scheduler that leverages all the aforementioned architectural knobs and application attributes to facilitate EPTO exploration. SWEEP, at a high level, uses a combination of models and heuristics and works by splitting application execution into high parallelism and low parallelism phases. It then uses an adaptive task distribution algorithm, specific to the phase type, that leverages model-based predictions to determine the best task schedule and the DVFS settings for the phase. Moreover, SWEEP is able to flexibly target various EPTO metrics, a feature that is not supported by other proposals. Our evaluation shows that SWEEP achieves 19.9%, 36.4% and 9.5% reduction on average in terms of EDP, ED 2 P and E 2 DP compared to the best performing state-of-the-art.

The power conversion system (PCS) based on droop control is voltage control in parallel. The island and grid-connected operation of the PCS are controlled by turning off and on the grid-side static transfer switch (STS). When the grid fails suddenly, the STS breaking command is issued. The PCS runs in island through the breaking process, but a longer time voltage shock, power and frequency oscillation will occur after breaking process is over. In order to solve above problems and achieve smooth transition of parallel PCS from grid-connected to island mode, a new type feedback link of voltage and current controller is designed in this paper. It combines the differential and integral controllers with droop controller to achieve smooth switching from grid-connected to island mode. In addition, the stability of the improved system is analyzed through root locus. The simulation results verify that the proposed control strategy can achieve a smooth transition from grid-connection to island mode.

Nowadays, Internet of Things platforms are being deployed in a wide range of application domains. Some of these include use cases with security requirements, where the data generated by an IoT node is the basis for making safety-critical or liability-critical decisions at system level. The challenge is to develop a solution for data exchange while proving and verifying the authenticity of the data from end-to-end. In line with this objective, this paper proposes a novel solution with the proper protocols to provide Trust in Data, making use of two Roots of Trust that are the IOTA distributed Ledger Technology and the Trusted Platform Module. The paper presents the design of the proposed solution and discusses the key design aspects and relevant trade-offs. The paper concludes with a Proof-of-Concept implementation and an experimental evaluation to confirm its feasibility and to assess the achievable performance.

distributed deep learning framework tools should aim at high efficiency of training and inference of distributed exascale deep learning algorithms. There are three major challenges in this endeavor: scalability, adaptivity and efficiency. Any future framework will need to be adaptively utilized for a variety of heterogeneous hardware and network environments and will thus be required to be capable of scaling from single compute node up to large clusters. Further, it should be efficiently integrated into popular frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc. This paper proposes a dynamically hybrid (hierarchy) distribution structure for distributed deep learning, taking advantage of flexible synchronization on both centralized and decentralized architectures, implementing multi-level fine-grain parallelism on distributed platforms. It is scalable as the number of compute nodes increases, and can also adapt to various compute abilities, memory structures and communication costs.

Software development of high-performance graph algorithms is difficult on modern parallel computers. To simplify this task, we have designed and implemented a collection of C++ graph primitives, basic building blocks, within cuGraph to assist graph analytics software developers on parallel computers, ranging from desktops to large clusters. This graph primitives API provides a vertex/edge-centric C++ Standard Template Library (STL)-like interface, allowing users to pick a primitive algorithm, and specify desired operations on vertices and edges and how to reduce the output of such operations through C++ functors. The API implementation is responsible for executing these functors on the underlying hardware. In this case, the graph primitives are implemented to run on NVIDIA GPU systems, from a single-GPU to multi-GPUs in a distributed cluster. RAPIDS cuGraph is NVIDIA’s graph analytics solution for data scientists and software integrators. Algorithms in cuGraph are either implemented using the cuGraph C++ primitives API or being migrated over to using the primitives API. The Louvain and PageRank algorithms have been tested on clusters with over 1000 GPUs.

The core of heterogeneous network embedding is to transform nodes and edges into low and dense vector representations while preserving the structural features and semantic information of the original network. The existing embedding methods based on European space can not store the hierarchical structure of the network, nor can capture the rich semantic information contained in the heterogeneous network. To improve the embedding quality of heterogeneous networks and reduce information loss, a hyperbolic space-based embedding method for heterogeneous networks is proposed. Firstly, a random walk guided by meta-path is used to obtain the node neighborhood information and semantic relation of the network. Then the heterogeneous network is embedded into hyperbolic space based on Poincare sphere model, and the Riemann stochastic gradient descent method is used to optimize the model. Experiments on multiple datasets show that the proposed method has better performance than other baseline methods, and preserves more complete network information with fewer dimensions of storage space.

Sensitive data leakage has become an urgent problem to be solved as more images based functionalities are being developed in vehicles. However, there is a scarcity of evaluation for on-board videos data desensitization. This research analyzes on-board video desensitization process including the image pre-processing stage, sensitive area localization stage and sensitive area desensitization stage. Considering that, this paper presents several evaluation methods and metrics of sensitive target detection performance, privacy-utility evaluation of video file metadata and image, so as to provide reference for the related research on the desensitization evaluation of on-board video.

As the demand for seamless connectivity across distributed networks increases, traditional federated learning (FL) models struggle to maintain accuracy and efficiency in dynamic environment. Conventional approaches, such as Random Fourier Features-based Kernel Least Mean Squares (RFF-KLMS), often fail to adapt to changing data distributions, leading to performance degradation. To address this issue, the Dynamic Fourier Federated Learning (DFFL) algorithm is introduced, incorporating adaptive Fourier features that iteratively evolve to better align with current data patterns. Simulation results demonstrate that the DFFL algorithm significantly enhances the convergence rate of FL models, ensuring reliable and seamless connectivity in real-world applications where data characteristics are continuously changing.

Empirical performance modeling is a proven instrument to analyze the scaling behavior of HPC applications. Using a set of smaller-scale experiments, it can provide important insights into application behavior at larger scales. Extra-P is an empirical modeling tool that applies linear regression to automatically generate human-readable performance models. Similar to other regression-based modeling techniques, the accuracy of the models created by Extra-I' decreases as the amount of noise in the underlying data increases. This is why the performance variability observed in many contemporary systems can become a serious challenge. In this paper, we introduce a novel adaptive modeling approach that makes Extra-P more noise resilient, exploiting the ability of deep neural networks to discover the effects of numerical parameters, such as the number of processes or the problem size, on performance when dealing with noisy measurements. Using synthetic analysis and data from three different case studies, we demonstrate that our solution improves the model accuracy at high noise levels by up to 25% while increasing their predictive power by about 15%.
