Currently public networks have an enormous number of computers capable of providing many services. Autonomous mobile agents are being used to access their information sources. These agents are modeled in the context of network simulation as mobile network processes. This paper demonstrates distributed mobile agents can be simulated effectively using C++ over CSIM. C++ over CSIM achieves the clarity and logic of agent based simulation for network services. Inheritance and specialization under object orientation allow the design and reuse of simulation objects. This combination facilitates rather straightforward simulation designs that are scalable, accurate, flexible and generalizable. The design for such large scale simulation is sketched and the run time behavior of the simulator is analyzed.

These systems are characterized by the fact that the temporal compatibility of the different objects that are brought together is a condition for success. In this paper, we propose an approach to validate the interoperability of object interfaces with respect to their temporal properties. This approach is based on a recent execution-time calculation technique dedicated to concurrent environments. In this article, we propose a simpler computation framework for this technique, based on Petri nets and J.Y. Girard's (1987, 1990, 1995) linear logic, and we show how it can quite advantageously be adapted to distributedreal-timeobject-oriented systems.

realtime simulation is an advanced mode of simulation in which the simulator components are designed to show essentially the same timing behavior that the simulation targets do. distributedrealtime simulation is a field in its infancy but its practice is under increasing demands. In recent years the author and his collaborators have been establishing a new approach called the distributedtime triggered simulation (DTS) scheme which is conceptually simple and easy to use but widely applicable. The concept was initiated in the course of developing a new-generation objectorientedrealtime programming scheme called the time triggered message triggered object (TMO) programming scheme. Some fundamental issues inherent in distributedrealtime simulation and major design principles and implementation techniques for resolving those issues within the DTS framework are presented. This technical foundation has been identified through multiple major DTS experiments conducted over the years. Some issues that require further research to realize the full potentials of the DTS scheme are also discussed.

Often, the advantages attainable by objectoriented programming cannot be realised due to the widespread use of inadequate languages in the domain of realtime and distributed systems. In order to meet the needs of these areas to an unmatched extent, the article advocates the use of PEARL as base language, and its extension PEARL* for objectoriented software development. The paper mainly focuses on supporting software engineering for safety related embedded systems. To this end, appropriate subsets of PEARL and PEARL* are defined, meeting the requirements of the Safety Integrity Levels 1, 2 and 3, respectively. It is possible to combine code associated with different Safety Integrity Levels in a transparent way, assuming that the ethical parts respect some safety rules, but allowing other uncritical parts of a system to be implemented in more comfortable ways.
