In recent years search for proper extensions of the object model to suit real-time database community has become a critical research issue. In this paper, we present such an extension of the object model, called RTO-RTDB. A concrete static and dynamic views of the model are presented. A major attraction of this model is in that it is effective not only in the use of the feedback control real-time scheduling theory but also in the accurate representation of realtime databases properties. It is used to demonstrate how to separate structural and concurrency concerns ensuring also high-level abstraction for parallelism modeling. In order to improve and to facilitate the RTO-RTDB object model specification, we have used the MARTE and UML-RTDB profiles as UML extensions to describe real-time aspects on one hand, and to express real-time database features on the other hand.

We propose a flexible and scalable message-oriented mechanism allowing interoperability between different DEVS implementations towards DEVS standardization. The main objective of the proposed protocol is to enable different DEVS implementations to interface and coordinate among each other to simulate the same model structure across their diverse domains. To do so, the proposed simulation protocol uses SOAP-based Web-Services technology as the communi. cation framework to exchange control and simulation messages. The objective is achievable with minimum design changes to each DEVS implementation. mainly by hiding the detailed implementation behind a wrapper and focusing only on the exchanged messages.

This paper reports on the issues in design and development of objectorientedreal-timedistributed Systems using Ada 95. The paper is broken into the following parts: First, one of the general distributedrealtime problems is introduced as it fits the domain within Boeing. Next, prototype solutions to the distributed capabilities are introduced including the new technologies present in Ada-95 through DSA (distributed Systems Annex-E)[2] and extended with CORBA (Common object Request Broker Architecture) capabilities[1]. Many issues are addressed with adoption and use of these technologies especially applicable as they relate to custom fine-tuned solutions used today to solve real-time constraints. As the various distributed solutions provide different strengths, a combination of the capabilities provides an attractive option. A hybrid distributed capability composed of DSA and CORBA has been developed and is discussed as it relates to the seamless introduction with the Ada language. Finally a set of research issues are raised.

A common issue of distributed software systems is the allocation of the logical software components of a system to physical nodes. In particular, there is often a need for `location transparency', that is, the ability to map a single specification to a number of different physical environments without requiring changes to the code. In this paper we describe a formal framework that can be used to achieve location transparency. This framework, based on a formalized concept of `computing environments', is defined for distributed systems specified using the ROOM structural modeling language. However, it can easily be extended to other object-based architectural languages.

distributedobject applications can be made fault tolerance by replicating their constituent object, and by distributing these replicas across the different computers in the network. The idea behind object replication is that the failure of one replica of an object can be masked from a client of the object because the other replicas can continue to perform any operation that the client requires. In this paper, we propose IFTS(Intelligent Fault-Tolerant CORBA Service) in handling faults of server object replica using replication concept to support fault tolerance. And it can choose the fastest primary, replica using multicast mechanism. And it also introduces passive replication for secure fault tolerance. Furthermore, we propose the design and implementation of IFTS service to provide reliability, and faster service using multicast technology by extending existing CORBA ORB.

Continuous monitoring of a computer network performance is probably the only solution which allows prompt identification of anomalous functioning conditions and knowledge of parameters on which to base speedy, effective recovery interventions. A number of tools for performance management already exist, but their effectiveness is limited as they are essentially inserted inside owner network management solutions. In the paper we describe the realization of PMt, a platform for the development of performance management applications for the control and real-time management of a heterogeneous computer network. PMt imposes an object-oriented view of the distributed system, defines a performance management design methodology which adapts well to really distributed system management and provides the user with a set of tools and services to assist him both in the design of new performance management applications and in actual management of the whole system.

Applying software reuse to many embedded real-time systems, such as autonomous mobile robot system poses significant challenges to industrial software processes due to the resource-constrained and real-time requirements of the systems. An approach for early life-cycle systematic reuse for component-based software engineering (ELCRA) of autonomous mobile robot software is developed The approach allows reuse at the early stage of software development process by integrating analysis patterns, component model, and component-oriented programming framework. The results of applying the approach in developing software for real robots show that the strategies and processes proposed in the approach can fulfill requirements for self-contained, platform-independent and real-time predictable mobile robot.

We present a parallel runtime substrate that supports a global addressing scheme, object mobility, and automatic message forwarding required for the implementation of adaptive applications on distributed memory machines. Our approach is application-driven;the target applications are characterized by very large variations in time and length scales. Preliminary performance data from parallel unstructured adaptive mesh refinement on an SP2 suggest that the flexibility and general nature of the approach we follow does not cause undue overhead.
