People recognition in aerial imagery is a complex problem since it involves cameras angles, which are subject to six degrees of freedom. Traditional classifiers used in pattern matching algorithms are not robust enough to deal with such issues. Thus it is necessary to use other techniques such as deep learning methods, e.g. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), in order to cope with such a complex problem. However, in spite of providing potentially better recognition results, deep learning methods demand greater processing time, hindering its use on on-board embedded systems of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). This work is a step towards real-time (and possibly on-board) people recognition on aerial imagery. We propose a new approach based on CNN for real-time people recognition on aerial images obtained from cameras attached to small UAVs. This approach combines images from a low-cost thermal camera to detect candidate objects and CNN for the classification task. We have compared our approach with two traditional pattern matching approaches: saliency map detection and cascade classifiers. The obtained results show that, by using CNN, higher rates of correct classification within 95% of precision are obtained. These results have been obtained within real-time processing of 1.08 fps in the worst case on a hardware without any GPU processing.

A visualization of large datasets requires ultra high resolution. Data wall systems provide large number of pixels by combining a power of multiple graphics cards. In this paper, we propose and realize an objectoriented framework for the Message Passing Interface based parallel rendering. We introduce a GUI based viewer called the TiledRenderer, which is used for viewing pre- recorded high resolution animations as well as images on data walls. We identify a set of design patterns in a development of the TiledRenderer. We talk about benefits of using design patterns for extending our framework for adding the realtime Streaming Protocol based IP camera support. We demonstrate that use of design patterns facilitates reusing the existing functionality and adding new functionality by providing new classes, rather than modifying the existing classes or functionality. We also discuss about a visualization of tsunami simulation data by using 6x6 data wall and the TiledRenderer.

Although high-level real-timedistributedcomputingobjects are generally written in forms independent of execution platforms, input and output (I/O) activities involving peripherals are inherently platform-dependent. Yet, writing parts of real-timeobjects for controlling peripherals should be done in forms compatible with the adopted real-timeobject programming styles. Basic issues are discussed in the context of an object-orientedreal-time programming scheme called the time-triggered message-triggered object (TMO) programming scheme. A desirable goal here is to facilitate both commanding and reactive control of peripherals in TMOs in general forms while enabling relatively easy analysis of the timing behavior of such TMOs. This paper presents several techniques to meet these requirements.
