Virtualization technologies employed by the cloud providers allow scalable and fast deployment of computation resources at a small cost. Being a core component in the cloud configuration, the hypervisor becomes the target of outside attacks that try to disrupt the normal operation of other users' systems or to gain control over the cloud infrastructure. Therefore, an effective and reliable method of discovering security vulnerabilities inside the hypervisors is needed. We created a testing environment that employs fuzzing to detect possible vulnerabilities inside the Firecracker hypervisor. We present a complete fuzzing toolchain that can be integrated into the Firecracker development cycle to discover and report bugs that can be missed by other testing methods. Our solution was internally tested by the Amazon Web Services team with promising results.

The evolution of modern computer systems with conventional processors to complex hardware units with heterogeneous accelerators is a reality. In the last decade, the awareness of teaching parallel computing in undergraduate programs has increased, however, the focus has been mainly on multi-core CPUs. GPUs, FPGAs, and other accelerators are now present in most of the devices people use daily, but their programming is still left to experienced engineers. New high-level programming languages for heterogeneous architectures such as DPC++ represent a good opportunity to bring closer inexperienced programmers to accelerators. In this paper, we present a new Heterogeneous computing course with a syllabus focused on the foundations of heterogeneous architectures (multi-core CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs) and their programming with DPC++. We present results from the experience of teaching this course to undergraduate students. Student evaluation and assessment data show that students engaged with the course's learning activities and there is high satisfaction with the contents covered © 2022 IEEE.

A low-latency and high-throughput, configurable architecture for computing sparse Finite Impulse Response in real-time Radio Frequency domain is proposed. The massively parallel architecture uses distributed control in association with near-memory techniques to optimize area and power. It supports configurability in filter tap locations and handling of locally dense taps, making it more adaptable to Radio Frequency environments.

This study centers on the application of vertical federated learning technology in the context of Internet banking loans, with a particular focus on innovations in data privacy protection, risk control model algorithms, and secure multi-party computation. Currently, banking risk control strategies mainly rely on traditional data processing technologies, which often fall short in protecting user privacy and ensuring data usage efficiency. We adopt vertical federated learning technology, offering an innovative solution for the Internet banking loan scenario. Firstly, regarding data privacy protection, we propose a differential privacy mechanism to safeguard user-sensitive data. Secondly, we innovatively apply risk control model algorithms, facilitating collaborative modeling across multiple Internet loan platforms through federated learning. Furthermore, we introduce secure multi-party computation technology to ensure the secure transmission of data and confidentiality of computation processes during federated learning. Through empirical experiments on real Internet loan datasets, we validate the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed methods. After implementing our risk control model, the credit approval rate increased from 3.44% to 18.2%, with a single-day high reaching 25.53%. The average loan amount increased by 7,700 yuan, and the average interest rate slightly declined by 0.48%, marking a significant improvement and breakthrough compared to traditional risk control models. This study offers innovative solutions for data privacy protection and risk control in the Internet loan scenario, providing safer and more reliable services for financial institutions and users. Moreover, our methods possess high practicality and promotional value. The potential widespread impact on the industry is profound. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a dense linear algebra library for distributed memory systems called OMPC PLASMA. It leverages the OpenMP Cluster (OMPC) programming model to enable the execution of the PLASMA library using task parallelism on a distributed cluster architecture. OpenMP Cluster model is used to define the task regions that are then distribute across the cluster nodes by the OMPC runtime that automatically manages task scheduling, communications between nodes, and fault tolerance. The OMPC PLASMA library modifies various PLASMA functions to distribute the matrix across the nodes and perform the calculation using threads of the node. Experimental results show that OMPC PLASMA achieves 4.00x with 4 worker nodes, 7.00x with 8 worker nodes, and 12.00x with 16 worker nodes acceleration over its original implementation for a single node. A 3.00x speedup is achieved when comparing OMPC PLASMA execution to ScaLAPACK, for 4 worker nodes, and a matrix size of 90kx90k.

Use of Deep Learning (DL) in commercial applications such as image classification, sentiment analysis and speech recognition is increasing. When training DL models with large number of parameters and/or large datasets, cost and speed of training can become prohibitive. distributed DL training solutions that split a training job into subtasks and execute them over multiple nodes can decrease training time. However, the cost of current solutions, built predominantly for cluster computing systems, can still be an issue. In contrast to cluster computing systems, Volunteer computing (VC) systems can lower the cost of computing, but applications running on VC systems have to handle fault tolerance, variable network latency and heterogeneity of compute nodes, and the current solutions are not designed to do so. We design a distributed solution that can run DL training on a VC system by using a data parallel approach. We implement a novel asynchronous SGD scheme called VC-ASGD suited for VC systems. In contrast to traditional VC systems that lower cost by using untrustworthy volunteer devices, we lower cost by leveraging preemptible computing instances on commercial cloud platforms. By using preemptible instances that require applications to be fault tolerant, we lower cost by 70-90% and improve data security.

A Python optimization method is proposed to ad-dress the slow and inefficient encryption speed of third-party libraries (gmssl and pysmx) commonly used in Python to im-plement national security encryption algorithms. This method combines bit operations, memory construction of S-boxes, and other methods to improve the encryption speed of national secu-rity algorithms. Through laboratory comparison and verification, compared to existing third-party national security encryption algorithm libraries, this method can effectively improve the speed of implementing national security encryption algorithms in Python.

Business process management is the end-to-end business process modeling, analysis, and optimization to achieve business goals. Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) is usually used to represent business process models. However, BPMN cannot support the intuitive modeling for some typical tasks in complex business scenarios of the Industrial Internet context, increasing the communication cost between modelers and business personnel. The current solutions try to extend the attributes of BPMN elements with annotations, but a large number of annotations makes business process models complex and cumbersome. This paper proposes to extend new business process modeling elements for Industrial Internet application scenarios based on BPMN extension mechanism, generating an extended business process modeling language, namely BPMN++. And an extended process modeling tool is implemented, which is available online. A case study over a real-world Industrial Internet process validates the usefulness of this extension mechanism and the well understandability of business process models. © 2022 IEEE.

HPC and distributed systems are the driving force for the advancement of many emerging technologies, such as exascale systems, quantum machines, terabit networking, 5G/6G wireless, and cloud/edge computing. The tasks of systems and network telemetry are a key element for effective operations and management of the advancement of many emerging systems and technologies, and require more scalable telemetry and analysis techniques for comprehensive monitoring and analysis. Various input sources such as end systems, switches, firewalls, intrusion sensors and the emerging network elements speaking with different syntax and semantics make organizing and incorporating the generated data challenging for the quantitative and qualitative analysis. This workshop looks for new approaches and methods at the intersection of HPC systems and data sciences to address these difficult challenges of emerging technologies from the diverse angles of systems/network performance, availability, reliability, and security.

We introduce a distributed memory parallel algorithm for force-directed node embedding that places vertices of a graph into a low-dimensional vector space based on the interplay of attraction among neighboring vertices and repulsion among distant vertices. We develop our algorithms using two sparse matrix operations, SDDMM and SpMM. We propose a configurable pull-push-based communication strategy that optimizes memory usage and data transfers based on computing resources and asynchronous MPI communication to overlap communication and computation. Our algorithm scales up to 256 nodes on distributed supercomputers by surpassing the performance of state-of-the-art algorithms.
