Internet fundamentally changes the model of software development, the demands of software quality, and the process of software resource sharing. Internetbased environment for trustworthy software production is recognized as a key topic of softwareengineering in both academic and software industry. In this paper, the concepts and models of trustworthy software are introduced which dominate the design of Trustie environment. Trustie provides trustworthy software components sharing by an evolving software repository, and provides collaborative software development in a customizable development platform powered by a software production line framework. Finally the layered practices of research and application based on Trustie preliminarily demonstrate the effectiveness as well as the promising future of this environment.

Simulating complex systems often requires high-performance software to be custom developed. However families of simulation problem do arise in which many computational tools, data structures and semantic ideas are shared in common. softwareengineering mechanisms that support the sharing and reuse of developed code are strongly desirable to save cost on development effort, testing and validation effort, and specifically to lower the time involved from concept to implementation for a new simulation model. Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) provide a valuable such mechanism and act as a semantic bridge between application domain expert and programmer. Even in cases of computational scientists where these two roles might be played by the same individual, a DSL provides a powerful mechanism to domain-specific ideas to improve the development time by lowering the software code complexity. We discuss some families of complex systems simulation problem and some experiences with domain-specific languages and automatic code generation (ACG) tools - particularly when applied to manage simulations where parallel and distributed computing technologies are used to speed-up the process of statistics collection from the numerical experiments.

The performance of data processing in distributed information systems strongly depends on the efficient scheduling of the applications that access data at the remote sites. This work assumes a typical model of distributed information system where a central site is connected to a number of remote and highly autonomous remote sites. An application started by a user at a central site is decomposed into several data processing tasks to be independently processed at the remote sites. The objective of this work is to find a method for optimization of task processing schedules at a central site. We define an abstract model of data and a system of operations that implements the data processing tasks. Our abstract data model is general enough to represent many specific data models. We show how an entirely parallel schedule can be transformed into a more optimal hybrid schedule where certain tasks are processed simultaneously while the other tasks are processed sequentially. The transformations proposed in this work are guided by the cost-based optimization model whose objective is to reduce the total data transmission time between the remote sites and a central site. We show how the properties of data integration expressions can be used to find more efficient schedules of data processing tasks in distributed information systems.
