Windmill graphs have a crucial role in the field of computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering and physics. Generalized windmill graphs are a generalization of the classic windmill graphs with applications in network communication, optimization, wireless sensor networks, ad-hoc networks, and distributed computing systems. By studying the entropy and complexity measures of generalized windmill graphs, we can gain insights into the behavior of these systems and optimize their performance. In this paper, firstly, we compute the Eccentricity dependent indices by developing suitable partitions of the vertex and the edge set of the generalized windmill graphs. Moreover, to present applications, we define different information functionals and obtain analytical formulae for entropies of generalized windmill graphs. These entropy measures assist us to understand the complexity measures of these graphs. As a specific application, we obtain numeric tables from our proved results which show how the studied model presents the comparison between the complexities of generalized windmill graphs of type I, type II and type III. © 2023 IEEE.

In modern software systems, log anomaly detection is a key technology to ensure system stability and reliability. The existing log-based anomaly detection methods have make significant development, but they fail to provide high detection accuracy when processing semantic information, especially in terms of semantic noise and the need for task-specific semantic embeddings. To address these issues, we propose a novel anomaly detection method called Contrast-Enhanced Log Anomaly Detection (CELA). The CELA model first enriches the content of log events using large language models and further optimizes the pretrained BERT model through contrastive learning techniques, ensuring that the event representations extracted from logs more accurately reflect potential anomalous patterns. On this basis, we have developed an anomaly detection model based on LSTM, which can effectively learn and identify anomalies from rich event representations. Evaluated on two public log datasets, the CELA model demonstrated superior performance compared to existing methods.

The operating system software repository is a collection of software package resources that are used to build operating system distributions. It also serves as a platform for users to install and update the system software. Owing to the extensive array of software packages within the software repository, intricate dependency relationships among these packages, and the asynchronous nature of updates for different software packages, the evolution and upgrade of both the software repository and operating system version are challenging to predict. This presents significant hidden risks for version updates and ecological compatibility governance. To tackle this issue, the paper designs a knowledge graph for the operating system software repository. Additionally, it suggests a method for identifying changes and ensuring coherence within the software repository by utilizing the knowledge graph. We select typical open source operating system software repositories for evolutionary analysis. Results demonstrate that the proposed method, as compared to traditional dependency detection methods such as Boolean expressions, examines package dependencies and overall self-consistency of the repository from a macro perspective of the operating system. This approach effectively identifies and guides the improvement of deep inconsistent relationships. It offers a new tool and perspective for constructing, managing, and maintaining operating system software repositories.

Even though actor-based frameworks such as Akka have been used by thousands of companies for over a decade, it is very difficult to configure cloud-based functional actor applications in a way to minimize their response time and to utilize provisioned resources with the maximal efficacy at the computing distributed cloud cluster nodes where these applications are deployed. As a result, the performance-tuning process is ad-hoc, laborious, manual, tedious and very *** developed a novel low-code approach for cross-layer optimization of actor-based distributed applications. In our method, runtime information is automatically collected and analyzed in parallel to the executing application using search-based genetic algorithms. These algorithms generate changes to the application design, which are automatically applied to regenerate the application while it continues to service clients’ requests. We applied our approach to automatically created distributed Akka applications demonstrating its effectiveness in finding an optimal configuration.

The field of Quantum Computing (QC) is increasingly becoming applicable for a wide range of computationally intensive problems. Especially Variational Quantum Algorithms (VQA) are promising as they allow dealing with the practical challenges of current quantum devices (also referred to as Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum devices). However, developing VQA-based solutions is not a straightforward process but involves several development phases, each with different design decisions and implications. In this paper, we share experiences made in developing VQA-based solutions for two different industrial case studies. Based on the solutions, we extracted five generic development phases quantum engineers must take into consideration when engineering quantum solutions. We have embedded the phases in a model (i.e. a phase model) to show their natural order and to illustrate the phases that require more development iterations. The main objective of this paper is not only to share and discuss our findings and experiences but also to provide the phase model as a starting point or guideline to structure the development process.

Traditional public blockchain systems typically had very limited transaction throughput because of the bottleneck of the consensus protocol itself. With recent advances in consensus technology, the performance limit has been greatly lifted, typically to thousands of transactions per second. With this, transaction execution has become a new performance bottleneck. Exploiting parallelism in transaction execution is a clear and direct way to address this and to further increase transaction throughput. Although some recent literature introduced concurrency control mechanisms to execute smart contract transactions in parallel, the reported speedup that they can achieve is far from ideal. The main reason is that the proposed parallel execution mechanisms cannot effectively deal with the conflicts inherent in many blockchain applications. In this work, we thoroughly study the historical transaction execution traces in Ethereum. We observe that application-inherent conflicts are the major factors that limit the exploitable parallelism during execution. We propose to use partitioned counters and special commutative instructions to break up the application conflict chains in order to maximize the potential speedup. When we evaluated the maximum parallel speedup achievable, these techniques doubled this limit to an 18x overall speedup compared to serial execution, thus approaching the optimum. We also propose OCC-DA, an optimistic concurrency control scheduler with deterministic aborts, which makes it possible to use OCC scheduling in public blockchain settings.

Aggregated HPC resources have rigid allocation systems and programming models which struggle to adapt to diverse and changing workloads. Consequently, HPC systems fail to efficiently use the large pools of unused memory and increase the utilization of idle computing resources. Prior work attempted to increase the throughput and efficiency of supercomputing systems through workload co-location and resource disaggregation. However, these methods fall short of providing a solution that can be applied to existing systems without major hardware modifications and performance losses. In this paper, we improve the utilization of supercomputers by employing the new cloud paradigm of serverless computing. We show how serverless functions provide fine-grained access to the resources of batchmanaged cluster nodes. We present an HPC-oriented Functionas-a-Service (FaaS) that satisfies the requirements of high-performance applications. Concurrency and consistency are the two inherent and complex characteristics of distributed systems. Their types, levels and implementation procedures determine the nature and efficiency of a distributed system. Concurrency and consistency are difficult concepts to understand, moreover, without a comprehensive understanding a complete system cannot be designed and built. Applying a comprehensive understanding of concurrency and consistency to the design of a distributed system will generate a system that is more closely aligned with the desired outcomes. This paper analyses both concurrency and consistency in distributed systems to present a comprehensive understanding of their requirements, types, levels, benefits and limitations. Initially, it analyses concurrency and compares it with parallelism to distinguish the two related but distinct terms. Subsequently, it analyses consistency and different consistency models including a comparative analysis of strong consistency and weak consistency models, and data-centric consistency and client-centric consistency models.

Effective load balancing methods are essential to solving these issues. Since such systems' size and complexity make it impossible to concentrate job execution on a few select servers, a parallel distributed solution is required. Adaptive task load model is the name of the method wesuggest in our article for balancing the workload (ATLM). We developed an adaptive parallel distributed computing paradigm as a result of this (ADPM). While still maintaining the model's integrity, ADPM employs a more flexible synchronization approach to cut down on the amount of time synchronous operations use. As well as the ATLM load balancing technique, which solves the straggler issue caused by the performance disparity between nodes, ADPM also applies it to ensure model correctness.
