This paper presents a collaboration scheme for distributed and heterogeneous CIM data activities. For concurrently coordinating CIM data activities, an advanced workflow model called Data Activity Flow Net (DAF-Net) is developed. For executing the coordination model and integrating heterogeneous information systems, a multi-agent based integration model called Agent-based integration Model of Information systems (AIMIS) is developed. To test the implementation logic of the two models, parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) software is applied. In this research, PVM has been proved to be a highly effective tool for testing the implementation logic of DAF-Net and AIMIS.

Modern grids have become very complex by their size and their heterogeneity. It makes the deployment and maintenance of systems a difficult task requiring lots of efforts from administrators and programmers. Our goal is to investigate the concepts that underlie autonomic computing systems, especially for grid environment. We believe that peer-to-peer overlay networks are a valuable basis to support some of the main issues of autonomic computing in the particular case of grids. This article presents the construction of an autonomous, decentralized, scalable, and efficient grid monitoring system. The components of this application negotiate through a peer-to-peer network in order to provide autonomic behaviors and exchange data. We present a solution based on a gossip broadcast protocol upon a hierarchical, directed, and acyclic graph to rapidly diffuse information in the system while limiting the number of messages. The software architecture is detailed, and then the first results of its performance are presented and analyzed.

Their objective is to minimize the total execution time of single applications. This paper proposes adaptive receiver initiated diffusion (ARID) strategy for distributed dynamic load balancing. Its principle and control protocol are described. The communication overhead and the effect on system stability and performance efficiency are analyzed. This paper presents the design and implementation of an intensive curriculum on embedded software design for university or college graduates of engineering background, who are seeking job opportunities in developing software for embedded system products. It is part of a government-conducted project intending to resolve the shortage of embedded software engineers in SoC (System-on-Chip) and related industry. In order to balance among the required expertise in developing embedded software, background diversity of the enrolled students, and the 300-hour limit on total course hours imposed by the project, the curriculum is designed towards delivering ready-to-use skills and aimed at establishing a solid common ground as required by embedded software engineers. The curriculum is composed of 9 courses which are divided into foundation modules, core modules, and practicing modules. More than 75% of the students were employed to work in embedded software and related industry within 6 months after completing this curriculum. This curriculum, although it has its limitation, demonstrates an effective alternative to supplying industry with trained manpower of embedded software.
