We introduce the all-software, standard C++-based Aurora distributed shared data system. As with related systems, it provides a shared data abstraction on distributed memory hardware. An innovation in Aurora is the use of scoped behaviour for per-context data sharing optimizations (i.e., portion of source code, such as a loop or phase). With scoped behaviour a new language scope (e.g., nested braces) can be used to optimize the data sharing behaviour of the selected source code. Different scopes and different shared data can be optimized in different ways. Thus, scoped behaviour provides a novel level of flexibility to incrementally tune the parallel performance of an application.

There are document reproduction/distribution systems aimed for the copyright protection in the educational site. But, these systems are not always convenient and it is often hard to manage the systems for network administrator. We apply a DACS Portal to the systems by using the network communication control on the client. On the DACS Scheme, a new distribution system is developed which displays static documents dynamically. The DACS Portal is applied to the copying/distribution system. It is shown that the proposed distribution system is easy to handle for users to get the documents medium. Further, the system is also easy to manage network for network administrator with no change of network configuration.

Providing variable granularities is an attractive way to achieve good speedups for various classes of parallel applications. A few systems achieve this goal by instrumenting an application with the checking code for the state of shared data. Although these systems can provide arbitrary granularities flexibly, they have severe race conditions inherent to software-only approaches as well as the run-time overhead of the instrumentation. In this paper, we propose a new mechanism, which has low overhead and incurs no race conditions while providing variable granularities in software. The unique idea of our mechanism is to delegate the state checks to the segmentation hardware of the Intel X86. The instrumented code only maintains the state of shared data to use the segmentation hardware. Because the hardware atomically performs the required state checks and corresponding references, our mechanism is free from difficult race conditions. This feature efficiently enhances the response time to remote requests via an interrupt mechanism without additional synchronization overheads for avoiding race conditions. The run-time overhead further decreases owing to the reduced works to be done by software. The evaluation results show that our mechanism exhibits sufficiently low overhead even without any optimization.

A control method based on disturbance observer is proposed to address the positioning drift issue of the gantry crane under unmatched disturbances, aiming at precise positioning of the trolley and effective payload swing angle attenuation in a variable-length two-dimensional lifting system. The control scheme comprises a combination of a proportional-derivative controller and a disturbance observer. Firstly, the design of the coupling function in this paper is based on the observation of the natural characteristics of the dynamical model. It cleverly designs the coupling function, which not only helps to effectively reduce the swing angle but also prevents the problem of positioning drift under non-matching disturbances, subsequently, design a controller by integrating intelligent computing with control theory. Secondly, the designed disturbance observer observes and compensates for the system output to achieve disturbance suppression. Thirdly, a thorough stability analysis has been conducted to demonstrate that the proposed controller satisfies the desired conditions. Finally, simulation results illustrate that the pro-posed method success-fully addresses the limitations of existing methods and exhibits superior performance and robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

Current patches used to attack object detectors are easily noticeable as abnormal. To mitigate this shortcoming, we devise an innovative technique named PhantomPatch, which leverages lens flare phenomena to attack object detectors, particularly in autonomous driving systems. Leveraging transfer-based adversarial examples, this method fools object detectors by projecting deceptive lens flares or ghost images, which are meaningless to people, while the light source looks like nearby light for people. Thus, it is easy to *** this way, we enable a cost-effective approach to manipulate the perception of the vehicle remotely. This strategy harmonizes adversarial patches with projecting image integrity correcting. Firstly, we propose to train a black-box transfer-based adversarial patch to fool the object-detecting system behind the camera. Then, the patch is printed and attached in front of a flashlight, which casts the patch onto the camera, resulting in a ghost image. We maintain the integrity of the image captured by the camera while casting the patch with image loss correction and optical distortion *** experimental results validate the effectiveness of PhantomPatch in evading existing object detectors such as YOLO V3/V5 and Faster R-CNN. Notably, during nocturnal scenarios, the technique achieves a success rate of 98.2%. Furthermore, our approach addresses limitations of existing methods, like conspicuousness and positional constraints, offering a low-cost and effective technique for adversarial attacks, especially for autonomous vehicles. FPGA configured soft processors are an attractive choice for implementing many embedded systems. For application development using these soft processors, the users can execute portions of the applications as software programs and the other portions as customized hardware implementations. Being able to rapidly simulate various partitions of the applications on hardware and software is crucial to efficiently execute them on soft processors because (a) there are many possible configurations of soft processors, and (b) low-level simulation techniques are too time consuming for evaluating these different partitioning and configuration possibilities. While state-of-the-art design tools rely on low-level simulation and are unable to deliver such a fast simulation speed, we propose a high-level cycle-accurate hardware/software co-simulation environment based on MATLAB/Simulink for application development using soft processors. By utilizing the high-level cycle-accurate abstractions of the low-level hardware implementations and the arithmetic simulation capability provided by MATLAB/Simulink, our tool considerably accelerates the time for cycle-accurate functional simulation of both hardware and software portions of a given application running on soft processors. To illustrate our approach, we develop a CORDIC division application and a matrix multiplication application on a commercial soft processor. Up to 19.4x improvement in simulation time is achieved using our co-simulation environment compared with that of low-level simulation for various partitions of these applications and for various configurations of the soft processor.

Consider the problem of scheduling a set of constrained-deadline sporadic real-time tasks on a multiprocessor where (i) all processors are identical, (ii) each task is characterized by its execution requirement, its deadline and its minimum inter-arrival time, (iii) each task generates a (potentially infinite) sequence of jobs and (iv) the execution requirement of a job and its potential for parallel execution is described by one or many stages with a stage having one or many segments such that all segments in a stage have the same execution requirement and segments in the same stage are permitted to execute in parallel and a segment is only allowed to start execution if all segments of previous stages have finished execution. We present a schedulability test for such a system where tasks are scheduled with global-EDF. This schedulability test has a resource-augmentation bound of two, meaning that if it is possible for a task set to meet deadlines (not necessarily with global-EDF) then our schedulability test guarantees that all deadlines are met when tasks are scheduled with global-EDF, assuming that the system analyzed with our schedulability test is provided processors of twice the speed. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Many researchers use a home-based lazy release consistent protocol (HLRC) to provide a simple, effective, and scalable way to build software distributed shared memory (DSM) systems. However, the performance of HLRC is notoriously sensitive to the initial page distribution among home nodes. We propose an adaptive HLRC protocol in which the home page designation is able to change according to the observed application sharing pattern. Our system differs from HLRC and other adaptive derivatives in the following respects. First, the number of home nodes for each shared page can be varied, as opposed to having only a single home node. Second, we use prediction in a novel way to dynamically change the the location of home nodes according to different memory access patterns. The home node of each shared page is able to propagate, perish, and migrate. An online home predictor determine whether or not the current node should remain a home node or drop from the current set of home nodes for a given page. Finally, all decisions concerning home node group membership are made locally, eliminating the costly global decision-making communication present in many other systems. Performance evaluations using six well-known DSM benchmarks show that our adaptive protocol outperforms conventional HLRC by up to 60%.

When users' tasks in a distributed heterogeneous computing environment are allocated resources, and the total demand placed on system resources by the tasks, for a given interval of time, exceeds the resources available, some tasks will receive degraded service, receive no service at all, or may be dropped from the system. One part of a measure to quantify the success of a resource management system (RMS) in such an environment is the collective value of the tasks completed during an interval of time, as perceived by the user, the application, or the policy maker. For the case where a task may be a data communication request, the collective value of data communication requests that are satisfied during an interval of time is measured. The Flexible Integrated System Capability (FISC) measure defined here is one way of obtaining a multi-dimensional measure for quantifying this collective value. While the FISC measure itself is not sufficient for scheduling purposes, it can be a critical part of a scheduler or a scheduling heuristic. The primary contribution of this work is providing a way to measure the collective value accrued by an RMS using a broad range of attributes and to construct a flexible framework that can be extended for particular problem domains. © 2001 IEEE.
