The research on Human pose estimation remains the most fundamental and challenging problem in computer vision. In this context, computer vision-based automobile safety-assisted driving technology has received comprehensive attention and is widely used in automobile-assisted driving systems. Powered by advanced artificial intelligence, the scale of data to be learned by deep learning networks is increasing, the processing tasks are becoming more and more complex, and the model parameters are also increasing. In the field of distributed parallel computing research has also received extensive attention. In this work, we focus on the challenge of human posture estimation in two dimensions, using both conventional and deep learning techniques, with an emphasis on its study's potential use in traffic-related settings. Recent approaches for estimating human poses are introduced, and a summary of how to extract bone joint points using deep learning techniques is provided. In conclusion, it elaborates on the present state of going beyond the bounds of single-computer computing resources and merging distributed architecture with deep learning to address the challenges and opportunities in human pose estimation. Human posture estimation has several technological applications, including the detection of driving behaviour and the analysis of fitness data. © 2022 IEEE.

In digital systems, multiplication operations are crucial, particularly in applications like image processing. This paper proposes an approximate radix-8 Booth multiplier designed to enhance performance and reduce complexity compared to traditional counterparts. Specifically tailored for signed-unsigned numbers, the proposed multiplier undergoes evaluation via simulation using Xilinx Vivado software with Artix-7 FPGA Board. Leveraging techniques such as modified Booth encoding and parallel partial product generation, it aims to achieve reduced delay and power consumption. The application of this multiplier is demonstrated through integration into Sobel edge detection. Quantitative metrics, including speedup factor and area reduction, are provided to assess performance improvements over existing systems. Furthermore, the proposed design is highly accurate, detecting 98.87% of edges, demonstrating its practicality and usefulness in digital image processing applications.

A Large Model is any model that is trained on broad data that can be fine-tuned to a wide range of downstream tasks; current examples include SAM, GPT-3, GPT-4, ChatDoctor, etc.. From a technological point of view, large models are not new, they are based on deep neural networks and self-supervised learning, both of which have existed for decades. However, the sheer scale and scope of large models from the last few years have stretched our imagination of what is possible; for example, GPT-3 has 175 billion parameters and can be adapted via natural language prompts to do a passable job on a wide range of tasks despite not being trained explicitly to do many of those tasks. Large models acquire linguistic and visual capabilities to perform reasoning and search, and interact with humans. The capabilities of large models indicate that they have the potential to transform various sectors and industries, extending the role AI plays in society. At the same time, existing large models have the potential to accentuate harms, and their characteristics are in general poorly understood. In this talk, She will first overviews the emerging paradigms for building artificial intelligence (AI) systems based on a general class of models which we term large models, in the field of medical and health care. In addition, She will discuss the opportunities and challenges for the application of large models in this field.

Cloud computing, as a cutting-edge computing paradigm, offers substantial data processing and storage capabilities. In a heterogeneous cloud environment, the diversity among cloud platforms results in varying task execution times, posing challenges in minimizing workflow makespan under budget constraints. On this basis, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, named snake optimizer (SO), is proposed for workflow scheduling in the cloud. Then, a negative offset mechanism is designed to dynamically guide the offset of individual positions during population update to prevent falling into local optimums, thereby optimizing the search for feasible solutions and improving the success rate. Finally, using the negative offset mechanism, a snake optimization budget-aware scheduling algorithm (NO-SO) is developed to schedule budget-constrained workflows in heterogeneous cloud computing environments and minimize the makespan. A series of comparative experiments conducted on real-world scientific workflows demonstrates that the NO-SO algorithm enhances the success rate in finding a feasible solution by 38.89% and 34.45% compared with the advanced MG-PRO algorithm and the original SO algorithm, respectively. Moreover, it achieves an average reduction in makespan of 30.30% and 32.19%.

Microgrids are a novel concept for modern power distribution networks that integrate renewable power sources and increase power control capabilities. This system's essential problem is controlling the frequency in island mode. Using the synchronous generator (SG) control approach, the microgrid frequency is more stable due to the inertial features of the SG. In this regard, this paper presents a control algorithm for voltage source converters (VSC)-based distributed generators (DGs), which emulates the principal behavior of synchronous machines and can support inertia to the grid and reduce frequency gradients considering the parallel operation of the SG. The controller is designed based on droop control theory, and a supervisory center controller is implemented to maintain system frequency close to a nominal value of the whole microgrid. The simulation results demonstrate that the system frequency is stabilized even in different and sudden load changes in the island mode where the microgrid is fed by multiple VSC units and a SG. The Simulink model of the system is designed using MATLAB Simulink software. © 2022 IEEE.

For half a century, advancements in semiconductor manufacturing and processor design have propelled the evolution of computer systems, yet power consumption remains a critical challenge for future innovation. Essential for sustainable development and performance gains in AI, big data, and autonomous driving, energy-efficient computing now demands a shift from boosting processing element (PE) performance through frequency increases to improving computational efficiency. This shift has prompted a move from Single- Instruction Multiple-Data (SIMD) to Single-Instruction Multiple- Thread (SIMT) architectures, like GPU s, offering computational speed and energy savings [1]–[3]. Despite SIMD's effectiveness, its limitations necessitate further architectural innovations, such as predicate bits and advanced thread management in GPU s. Our research introduces a dual-instruction multiple-data (DIMD) architecture to enhance PE parallelism efficiently for FPGA overlay architecture. U sing the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) [4], [5] and AI convolution [6] as benchmarks, we demonstrate the proposed architecture's potential for effectively handling complex parallel computations.

This paper proposes a power flow control strategy (PFCS) for a decentralized DC microgrid (DCMG) system using transition operations based on the DC-link voltage (DCV) observer value to achieve both the voltage and power regulations even under DCV sensor faults. The transition operation modes are employed to transmit the information of the DCMG system to other power agents without any digital communication links while the steady-state operation modes are used to ensure the DCV regulation to the nominal value. Moreover, to maintain the system stabilization even under DCV sensor faults, a voltage sensor fault identification method is introduced for each power agent in the decentralized DCMG by using the estimated DCV value. When a DCV sensor fault occurs in a power agent, its operation is adjusted to the proper control mode to ensure the DCMG system stabilization. Several simulations are carried out with the PSIM software to verify the reliability of the proposed PFCS.

This paper investigates the information freshness of two time division multiple access (TDMA) systems: round-based TDMA and user-based TDMA. The age of information (AoI) metric is used to represent the freshness of information, measured by the time since the generation of the most recently received packet. In a conventional round-based TDMA system, multiple users send their packets in rounds, regardless of whether their packets are successfully received by the receiver, possibly leading to a high average AoI of the system. In contrast, we propose a user-based TDMA system that guarantees successful packet reception for each user through feedback before proceeding to the next user. We evaluate the average AoI and average Peak AoI (PAoI) of both TDMA systems. Our theoretical and simulation results indicate that while both systems exhibit the same average PAoI, the user-based TDMA system has a lower average AoI compared with its round-based counterpart. Our findings provide new insights into the design of TDMA systems with different information freshness requirements.

The advent of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) offers significant potential to mitigate traffic accidents and reduce congestion through advanced unsignalized intersection technologies. However, this potential also introduces substantial modeling and computational challenges. This paper establishes a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model and a Simulated Annealing Algorithm (SAA) to solve the unsignalized intersection problem. It begins with an indepth analysis of the conflict relationships among vehicles at intersections, laying the foundation for the model. Building on this, a novel vehicle trajectory planning model is introduced, leveraging the MILP model to ensure faster and more practical trajectory calculations, meeting real-time computation requirements. Finally, this paper designs a SAA to determine the optimal vehicle passing order, enhancing both safety and efficiency at intersections. Through numerical simulations, the research verifies the efficiency of the proposed MILP model and the effectiveness of the SAA in optimizing vehicle trajectories.

As the cost of photovoltaic (PV) systems has sharply fallen over the recent years, they have been enormously installed, whether in open racks, rooftop or even floating on water. Today, the integration of PV systems into the power system is mostly seen on the low voltage distribution network. This adoption is envisaged to bring both technical and environmental benefits to the traditional distribution network such as reliability, minimization of line loss, line capacity improvement, and investment deferement associated with network upgrade. However, extensive integration may also bring some detrimental impacts such as voltage rise, reverse power flow, harmonics, etc. Therefore, the limit of penetration needs to be determined so as all the desired benefits are acquired. Lately, Karabuk University has begun installing PV generators on some of its buildings, aiming ultimately for autonomus supply;yet, the effect of increasing the capacity of such systems is not yet investigated. In this paper, Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP) software is used to simulate and analyze the low voltage distribution grid of Karabuk University under multiple PV penetration levels. It is concluded that, considering different power quality metrics, the penetration level of PV as distributed generations should not exceed 75% of the maximum demand of Karabuk University. © 2022 IEEE.
