Selective harmonic Elimination using Dwarf mongoose optimization in Single-Phase Seven-Level switched capacitor inverter with reduced components

The advancement of high-performance multilevel inverters is essential for contemporary power electronics applications. Nonetheless, attaining a compact topology that offers high gain, minimized component count, and enhanced harmonic mitigation continues to pose a difficulty. This study presents a single-phase seven-level switched capacitor multilevel inverter (SCMLI) that employs ten switches, two capacitors, and a single DC source, utilizing the self-voltage balancing properties of switched capacitors to eliminate the necessity for auxiliary circuits or complex control mechanisms. The Dwarf Mongoose optimization Algorithm (DMOA) improves the optimization of switching angles, hence enhancing selective harmonic removal and providing substantial control over individual harmonics. Comparative analysis and experimental results validate the inverter's resilience and exceptional performance, exhibiting a threefold voltage gain. Moreover, DMOA surpasses conventional and state-of-the-art optimization algorithms in terms of both speed and convergence accuracy, and achieves the best accuracy of around 1 x 10-52 which helps in significant reductions in the overall harmonic distortion, especially in the 5th and 7th harmonics. The inverter's effectiveness in reducing switching losses, attributed to its low switching frequency and high operating efficiency, makes it an effective option for industrial applications.

The article considers a comprehensive comparison of optimization algorithms for solving the problem of placing vector graphic objects on a plane. algorithms are described in the form of block diagrams, which allows an understanding of their structure and operation principles. These diagrams provide a step-by-step visual representation of the processes involved, making it easier to follow the logical process and identify the critical components of each algorithm. Software was developed to evaluate the effectiveness of these methods. This program uses simplified input data in the form of rectangular objects that are placed on planes of different sizes. A set of rectangular objects and different plane dimensions makes it possible to perform various analyses in different scenarios, guaranteeing the reliability of the results. Research results are carefully presented in graphs and tables that clearly illustrate the effectiveness of each method. Furthermore, the article thoroughly discusses the results and conclusions obtained, indicating the high potential of optimization search methods in solving the problem of placing graphic objects. It highlights the practical implications of these findings, suggesting that these methods can significantly improve efficiency and resource utilization in various applications, such as manufacturing, printing, and layout design. The results of this study can guide future development and innovation in optimization methods, contributing to advances in fields that require accurate and efficient feature placement strategies. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

As an important component of nuclear reactors, guide tubes have critical applications in the nuclear industry. In order to assist engineers in quickly and accurately performing guide tube defect detection tasks and to construct an automatic defect detection system for nuclear components, this study proposes an automatic detection method that integrates traditional image processing algorithms with U-Net and YOLOv8 deep learning algorithms. This method is aimed at the data collected by metallographic microscopes, using the U-Net network to extract edge coordinate information of the data, and designing a boundary fitting method based on smooth optimization to obtain the boundary equation of the fusion zone. At the same time, the YOLOv8 network is used to detect the coordinate range of weld joints, and the final coordinates of the weld joints are obtained by combining the coordinate of the fusion zone edge. Experimental results show that, while maintaining fitting accuracy, the boundary equation obtained by the smooth optimization algorithm has better continuity. Compared with the traditional method of metallographic inspection combined with manual measurement, this method significantly improves the detection efficiency and accuracy of Effective Melt Depth and Melt Zone Depth of guide tubes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Genetic algorithms are widely used as global optimization solvers for complex and non-convex problems in industrial applications (resource and load planning, workshop logistics, process control, etc.). Simulated Binary Crossover (SBX) is a common operator in real-coded Genetic algorithms for continuous optimization, but it typically relies on a fixed distribution index parameter that may not stay optimal throughout the evolutionary process. To address this, we propose a Transfer Learning-Based Adaptive Simulated Binary Crossover approach, which employs Bayesian optimization to dynamically update the parameter during the Genetic Algorithm run. The parameter is periodically re-optimized based on the population's current dynamics. Tested on benchmark functions including Rosenbrock, Rastrigin, Ackley, and Griewank, our method achieves faster convergence and higher solution quality than standard Genetic algorithms with a fixed parameter.

Time-Dependent Constrained Path optimization (TD-CPO) takes the following input: (i) time-dependent (TD) road network, (ii) source (s), (iii) destination (d), (iv) departure time (t) and, (v) budget (B). In a TD road network, each edge is characterized by a time-dependent arrival time and a score function. TD-CPO aims to determine a loopless s–d path which departs from s at time t and arrives at d on or before time t+B while maximizing the score. TD-CPO has applications in urban navigation. TD-CPO is a variant of the Arc Orienteering Problem (AOP) known to be NP-hard in nature The key computational challenge of TD-CPO is that we need to find the "longest path" in terms of score within the given budget constraint in a TD road network. Current algorithms either prune down search space aggressively, leading to low solution quality or are not scalable to large networks. In contrast, our proposed approach SCOPE explores a comprehensive search space efficiently. Furthermore, the inherent computational structure of SCOPE enables trivial parallelization for improved performance. Our experiments indicate that SCOPE achieves both superior quality solutions (nearly 2X) and acceptable runtimes (within 3 secs) when compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm on large road networks. Furthermore, SCOPE exhibits almost linear speedup as the number of CPU cores increases. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this paper, the mantis search algorithm (MSA), is proposed to determine the switching angles for a three-phase (3-ph) eleven-level (11-lvl) cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI). MSA is applied to the selective harmonic minimization pulse-width modulation (SHMPWM) technique to maintain the desired fundamental harmonic while minimizing undesired low-order harmonics. The performance of the MSA-SHMPWM technique is compared to that of a well-known optimization algorithm, the genetic algorithm (GA). For fair comparison, both GA- and MSA-SHMPWM techniques are implemented in MATLAB with the same population size, maximum number of iterations and maximum number of runs. Furthermore, a 3-ph ll-lvl CHBMLI is modeled using PSIM simulation software to validate the effectiveness of the MSA-SHMPWM technique. The MATLAB analysis results show that the MSA-SHMPWM technique achieves a minimum objective function (OF) values of 10– 19 , which is lower than the 10– 9 achieved by the GA-SHMPWM technique. This indicates that the MSA-SHMPWM technique determines switching angles with higher accuracy compared to the GA-SHMPWM technique. Additionally, the PSIM simulation results confirm that the switching angles determined by the MSA-SHMPWM technique, when applied to a 3-ph ll-lvl CHBMLI, generate sinusoidal staircase-like output phase and line-to-line voltage waveforms with the desired fundamental voltage and minimized undesired low-order harmonics. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of these voltage waveforms, when the CHBMLI is operated at modulation index of 0.60, are 36.61 % and 7.24 %, respectively.

Multiplex models for the optimum design of electrical machines

One promising way to address the problem of the synthesis of the design of electrical machines is to set it up as an optimization problem in order to benefit from the most effective optimization algorithms to solve it. Some consequences are here derived from this statement concerning the modeling of electrical machines, the formalization of the optimization problem and the required algorithms to solve it. They come from different experiments on the design of electrical machine, each one involving a particular methodology, and already reported. This way, a unified approach of multiplex model is proposed. Coupled with adapted multiobjective optimization algorithms it provides a powerful and promising way of designing electrical machines.

Two level minimization in multidimensional scaling

Multidimensional scaling with city block norm in embedding space is considered. Construction of the corresponding algorithm is reduced to minimization of a piecewise quadratic function. The two level algorithm is developed combining combinatorial minimization at upper level with local minimization at lower level. Results of experimental investigation of the efficiency of the proposed algorithm are presented as well as examples of its application to visualization of multidimensional data.
