The use of PC cluster systems composed of many PCs is largely spread in these days. It is important to improve system usage keeping proper fair-share policy. This optimization problem is difficult to solve. In scheduler soft-ware, there are many parameters and the effectiveness of many parameters is related with each other complicatedly. Therefore it is more difficult to find optimal parameter con-figuration to improve the system usage efficiency. So in this paper, we performed various analyses of those parameters and report the results.

Cloud computing is a natural evolution for data and compute centers with automated systems management, workload balancing, and virtualization technologies. Cloud-based services integrate globally distributed resources into seamless computing platforms. In an open cloud computing framework, scheduling tasks with guaranteeing QoS constrains presents a challenging technical problem. This paper presents a game theoretic method to schedule dependent computational cloud computing services with time and cost constrained. An evolutionary mechanism is designed to fairly and approximately solve the NP-hard scheduling problem.

In order to deal with dynamic change in a manufacturing environment, all kinds of manufacturing resources are reorganized as multifarious agents with different resources and capability. According to the automation level and working mode of each functional agent to finish its tasks in the manufacturing environment, the manufacturing resource agents are divided into three categories. In order to construct these various agents conveniently, a multi-layer structure is put forward. Based on the structure, the agents can not only rapidly deal with unexpected events, but also recognize and predict the environment change automatically to adjust their behavior. A manufacturing system hierarchical architecture based on MAS is also provided. According to the change of actual productive tasks and the difference of scheduling strategies, the manufacturing system can be reconstructed flexibly by changing the MAS structure and the granularity of the agents. Consequently, it can adapt to the rapid change of the manufacturing environment and the manufacturing resources.

Modern large-scale grid computing for processing advanced science and engineering applications relies on geographically distributed clusters. In such highly distributed environments, estimating the available bandwidth between clusters is a key issue for task scheduling. We analyze the performance of two well known available bandwidth estimation tools, pathload and abget, with the aim of using them in grid environments. Our experiments consider the accuracy of the estimation, the convergence time, their level of intrusion in the grid links, and the ability to handle multiple simultaneous estimations. Overall, pathload represents a good solution to estimate available bandwidth in grid environments.

Critical characteristics of wireless sensor networks, as being autonomous and comprising small or miniature devices are achieved at the expense of very strict available energy related limitations. Therefore, it is apparent that optimal resource management is among the most important challenges in WSNs development and success. However, energy management requires in depth knowledge and detailed insight concerning the factors contributing to the overall power consumption of a WSN mote. To achieve such awareness, appropriate measuring test-beds and methodologies are needed, enabling reliable and accurate power consumption measurements of critical functionalities. Moving towards that direction, the contribution of this paper is twofold. On one hand, the design and implementation of a system is presented, capable of accurately measuring and displaying a wide range of power consumption thresholds. On the other hand, the elementary functionalities of a WSN platform are identified, isolated and measured with respect to their contribution to the overall mote power consumption. Valuable conclusions are extracted and analyzed.

In this paper, we consider joint optimization of end-to-end data transmission and resource allocation for Wireless-Infrastructured distributed Cellular Networks (WIDCNs), where each base station (BS) in a cell is connected with its neighboring BSs via wireless links, and a mobile station (MS) can access one or multiple adjacent BSs simultaneously through time-varying OFDMA channels. The communications between a source MS and a destination MS are carried out with the help of BSs in the multi-hop, distributed manner. To achieve the joint optimization for such WIDCNs, a Stochastic Network Utility Maximization (SNUM) problem is formulated under the constraints of OFDMA sub-channel allocation on time-varying access links (both uplink and downlink), as well as routing and scheduling on forwarding links among BSs. By decomposing the corresponding dual problem, transforming it into a stochastic convex optimization problem and solving it by quasi-gradient method, we obtain distributed dynamic control algorithms for end-to-end data transmission. The algorithm can adapt to the OFMDA channel variation and converges asymptotically to the optimal solution. We also develop a distributed algorithm for OFDMA sub-channel allocation and link coordination between BSs. The simulation results show that the data rates of the flows can converge to optimal solution approximately, queues of the network is stable under the proposed distributed dynamic algorithm, and the multi-receiver scheme outperforms the single-receiver scheme due to diversity.

During the last decade, using parallel and distributed system has been more general. In these systems a huge size of data or computation is distributed between many systems for getting better performance. Dividing data is one of the challenges in this type of system, because efficiency of system has direct relation to distributed data. One of proposed method for managing data distribution called Divisible Load Theory (DLT). This method is based on this actuality that data in some applications can be divided arbitrarily to some independent parts which each of them can be processed independently from others. In this paper we present a survey on DLT. This article will discuss about some fundamental concepts for understanding this method. Then some reasons for using it and used notations will be investigated and an example will be examined.

As high performance and distributed computing become more important tools for enabling scientists and engineers to solve large computational problems, the need for methods to fairly and efficiently schedule tasks across multiple, possibly geographically distributed, computing resources becomes more crucial. Given the nature of distributed systems and the immense numbers of resources to be managed in distributed and large-scale cluster environments, traditional centralized schedulers will not be extremely effective at providing timely scheduling information. In order to manage large numbers of resources quickly, less computationally intensive methods for scheduling tasks must be explored. This paper proposes a novel resource management system based on the immune system metaphor making use of the concepts in Immune Network Theory and Danger Theory. By emulating various elements in the immune system, the proposed manager could efficiently execute tasks on very large systems of heterogeneous resources across geographic and/or administrative domains. The distributed nature of the immune system is also exploited in order to allow efficient scheduling of tasks, even in extremely large environments, without the use of a centralized or hierarchical scheduler.

Computational Grid is a cooperative computing environment which collects all kinds of high performance software and hardware computing resources distributed in WAN and provides networked computing services. The computational grid systems that have been the focus of much research activities in the past years fir controlled sharing of resources across institutional boundaries. Credit is one major concert? in grid resource management that enables remote scheduling and execution. For the sake of improving the self-adaptability of resource management and accelerating the application and development of Computational Grid, an evaluation model of a computational grid node's credit is put forward which is based on the execution results of computational grid jobs on the node. Using this model the resource consumers and resource providers should abandon the vicious evaluating voluntarily. Applied in NPU Campus Computational Grid, this model achieves good effect.

Support for advance reservations of resources plays a key role in Grid resource management as it enables the system to meet user expectations with respect to time requirements and temporal dependence of applications, increases predictability of the system and enables co-allocation of resources. Despite these attractive features, adoption of advance reservations is limited mainly due to the fact that related algorithms are typically complex and fail to scale to large and loaded systems. In this work we consider two aspects of advance reservations. First, we investigate the impact of heterogeneity on Grid resource management when advance reservations are supported. Second, we employ techniques from computational geometry to develop an efficient heterogeneity-aware scheduling algorithm. Our main finding is that Grids may benefit from high levels of resource heterogeneity, independently of the total system capacity. Our results show that our algorithm performs well across several user and system performance and overcome the lack of scalability and adaptability of existing mechanisms.
