In August 1999, the Twelfth workshop on Languages and Compilers for P- allel Computing (LCPC) was hosted by the Hierarchical Tiling Research group from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). The workshop is an annual international forum for leading research groups to present their current research activities and the latest results. It has also been a place for researchers and practitioners to - teract closely and exchange ideas about future directions. Among the topics of interest to the workshop are language features, code generation, debugging, - timization, communication and distributed shared memory libraries, distributed object systems, resourcemanagementsystems, integration of compiler and r- time systems, irregular and dynamic applications, and performance evaluation. In 1999, the workshop was held at the international Relations/Paci c Studies Auditorium and the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UCSD. Seventy-seven researchers from Australia, England, France, Germany, Korea, Spain, and the United States attended the workshop, an increase of over 50% from 1998.

This two volume set LNCS 8285 and 8286 constitutes the proceedings of the 13th international Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for parallel Processing , ICA3PP 2013, held in Vietri sul Mare, Italy in December 2013. The first volume contains 10 distinguished and 31 regular papers selected from 90 submissions and covering topics such as big data, multi-core programming and software tools, distributedscheduling and load balancing, high-performance scientific computing, parallel algorithms, parallel architectures, scalable and distributed databases, dependability in distributed and parallelsystems, wireless and mobile computing. The second volume consists of four sections including 35 papers from one symposium and three workshops held in conjunction with ICA3PP 2013 main conference. These are 13 papers from the 2013 international Symposium on Advances of distributed and parallel Computing (ADPC 2013), 5 papers of the internationalworkshop on Big Data Computing (BDC 2013), 10 papers of the internationalworkshop on Trusted Information in Big Data (TIBiDa 2013) as well as 7 papers belonging to workshop on Cloud-assisted Smart Cyber-Physical systems (C-Smart CPS 2013).

Welcome to the proceedings of GCC2004 and the city of Wuhan. Grid computing has become a mainstream research area in computer science and the GCC conference has become one of the premier forums for presentation of new and exciting research in all aspectsofgridandcooperativecomputing. Theprogramcommitteeispleasedtopresent the proceedings of the 3rd international Conference on Grid and Cooperative Comp- ing (GCC2004), which comprises a collection of excellent technical papers, posters, workshops, and keynote speeches. The papers accepted cover a wide range of exciting topics, including resource grid and service grid, information grid and knowledge grid, grid monitoring, managementand organizationtools, grid portal, grid service, Web s- vices and their QoS, service orchestration, grid middleware and toolkits, software glue technologies, grid security, innovative grid applications, advanced resource reservation andscheduling,performanceevaluationandmodeling,computer-supportedcooperative work, P2P computing, automatic computing, and meta-information management. The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 581 manuscripts (including workshop submissions) were submitted for consideration. Expecting this growth, the size of the program committee was increased from 50 members for GCC 2003 for 70 in GCC 2004. Relevant differences from previous editions of the conf- ence: it is worth mentioning a signi?cant increase in the number of papers submitted by authors from outside China; and the acceptance rate was much lower than for p- vious GCC conferences. From the 427 papers submitted to the main conference, the program committee selected only 96 regular papers for oral presentation and 62 short papers for poster presentation in the program.

The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-managementsystems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. Current decentralized systems still focus on data and knowledge as their main resource. Feasibility of these systems relies basically on P2P (peer-to-peer) techniques and the support of agent systems with scaling and decentralized control. Synergy between grids, P2P systems, and agent technologies is the key to data- and knowledge-centered systems in large-scale environments. This special issue contains extended and revised versions of 4 papers, selected from the 25 papers presented at the satellite events associated with the 17th East-European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information systems (ADBIS 2013), held on September 1-4, 2013 in Genoa, Italy. The three satellite events were GID 2013, the Second internationalworkshop on GPUs in Databases; SoBI 2013, the First internationalworkshop on Social Business Intelligence: Integrating Social Content in Decision Making; and OAIS 2013, the Second internationalworkshop on Ontologies Meet Advanced Information systems. The papers cover various topics in large-scale data and knowledge-centered systems, including GPU-accelerated database systems and GPU-based compression for large time series databases, design of parallel data warehouses, and schema matching. The special issue content, which combines both theoretical and application-based contributions, gives a useful overview of some of the current trends in large-sc
