Today, technology plays a pivotal role in our daily lives, significantly impacting individuals. Individuals with muscular dystrophy, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), benefit from eye-tracking technology, allowing them to interact with computers. This technology empowers them to control computer functions using only their eye movements, eliminating the need for traditional mouse and keyboard inputs. Despite these advancements, ALS patients still face challenges with certain tasks. Our study focuses on a specific individual with ALS who utilizes eye-tracking technology to navigate Adobe Premiere’s video editing software. Our objective is to address these challenges by providing a solution that leverages the shortcut commands already available in Adobe Premiere Pro while also creating a simplified interface tailored for the individual we are designing for. This approach facilitates easier access to these shortcuts during his work. Our research emphasizes the potential to adapt and personalize assistive eye-tracking technology, creating more opportunities for individuals with disabilities. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Smart water management imposes higher demands on the real-time capabilities and intelligence of watershed information monitoring systems. Therefore, we propose an intelligent voice broadcast system for monitoring water information, aimed at achieving efficient and accurate dissemination of warning information. This system can be deployed and integrated into existing water information monitoring systems to enable real-time voice broadcasting of water-related information. To ensure the system’s timeliness and effectiveness, we propose a Performance Optimization Mechanism for Data Processing, Priority Control for voice broadcasting, a Content Optimization Mechanism, and a Timeliness Control Mechanism. Comparative experiments demonstrate that the proposed intelligent voice broadcast system significantly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of water information dissemination, providing an innovative solution for real-time monitoring and early warning in water management. © 2025 IEEE.

This project examines the deployment and management of web applications using Kubernetes, an open-source container orchestration platform. The fact that biometric recognition systems are susceptible to different software-related or template is undeniable. Attacks at different vulnerable points in the biometric authentication system are possible. These attacks, however, are not without their flaws. One of two possibilities: either researchers or biometric stakeholders have they may have forgotten or ignored the consequences of these attacks, or they are unaware of some of these threats. In the meantime, if biometric systems lack adequate security, these attacks could result in the biometric system being compromised. The compromise and consequent loss of sensitive personal information, which is irreplaceable and irrevocable, are inevitable. Researchers and biometrics should consider the implications posed by these threats. Over the last two decades, stakeholders have proposed different methods to mitigate some of the attacks. Many of the existing attacks are left unattended, and a large number of them are left unattended. As a result, we deemed it essential to address this issue. The research community is paying attention. The implications of these attacks are highlighted in this article. Exploit the threat approach based on the attacker's knowledge, and combine them into a single, thorough, and effective attack. Recent state-of-art protection mechanisms that are put forward are included in the comprehensive review. Reduce the impact of these threats. A comparative performance analysis of these protection mechanisms is also performed. It is given that possible countermeasures to the attacks are given. It is expected that this survey will be a success. The biometric template protection research community was woken up by a wake-up call. Hand in glove. Conversely, educating ordinary users and biometric stakeholders about the dangers posed by biometrics. © 2025 IEEE.

software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are an emerging paradigm in the automotive industry where vehicles' functionality, performance, and safety can be enhanced and updated through software, even after production. Unlike traditional vehicles, which rely primarily on physical components, SDVs leverage advanced connectivity, real-time data analytics, and cloud integration to adapt to changing regulations, driver preferences, and environmental conditions. This shift enables vehicles to evolve continuously, responding to new technological advances and customer needs. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end framework to demonstrate and realize the full benefits of SDVs. We incorporate the concept of digital twin (of the vehicle) driven software update authorization to download or update an application on the vehicle. In our framework, attestation refers to the verification of each software update's compatibility and functionality with the vehicle's current ECUs before deployment. Any impending/requested update is first verified for its compatibility with the vehicle's architecture (as per the twin) on the cloud. The idea is via the SDVs' digital twin - since each and every ECU is virtualized - the simulation and testing of the actual hardware setup with the new application software can be done without direct impact on the physical vehicle. Once the application is installed across all relevant virtualized ECUs, the framework confirms compatibility, ensuring smooth deployment and functionality in the real-world vehicle. Post this successful attestation, the installation will be done on the real vehicle corresponding to that digital twin. Through this proposed framework, we intend to ensure the safety of the updation, while the new updates contribute to the functionality and performance improvements. © 2025 IEEE.

Background: Information about project tasks stored in Issue tracking systems (ITS) can be used for project analytics or process simulation. However, such issues must be classified beforehand. Considering the number of tasks stored in ITS, this task shall be done automatically. Aims: Our research aims to build an automatic recurring Jira issue classification model based on types and textual descriptions to enable the practical application of the model for software project planning and management. Method: We study a dataset from six industrial projects containing 9.6K tasks and augment it with an additional dataset of 91K task descriptions from other industrial projects to up-sample minority classes during training. We labeled the data using a semi-manual, active-learning-based method. We perform ten runs of 10-fold cross-validation for each project and evaluate classifiers using a set of state-of-the-art prediction quality metrics, i.e., Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-score, and MCC. Our machine-learning pipeline includes a Transformer-based sentence embedder (‘mxbai-embed-large-v1’) and an XGBoost classifier. We also study the impact of task-classification errors on project staffing issues. Results: The model automatically classifies software process tasks into 14 classes with MCCs ranging from 0.69 to 0.88. We built a confusion matrix that showed the most frequently confused task classes. We analyzed the consequences of classification errors. Conclusions: The study’s results enable the practical application of the software process model to analyze, plan, and manage software development projects. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Smart home IoT systems have become integral to modern households. To ensure security and safety, prevent hazards, accidents and health emergencies, optimize resource usage, and maintain system reliability, it is essential to have anomaly detection as an integral part of the home management system. Integrating anomaly detection into the smart home environment requires it to be extended to a comprehensive anomaly management process that can be broken down into several stages: data collection and aggregation, anomaly detection, anomaly assessment, decision-making, action-taking, logging and analysis of anomaly events and responses. Our work focuses on three key contributions. First, we explore anomaly detection algorithms to improve detection accuracy, improve classification, and provide users with detailed information on identified anomalies. Second, we present a step-by-step breakdown of the anomaly management process, highlighting how anomaly detection functions as its critical subprocess. Finally, we provide an in-depth explanation of how this management process is seamlessly integrated into a functional smart home environment, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to anomaly handling. [Context and motivation] software requirements are commonly expressed in natural-language, which must be formalised if they are to be used by formal methods such as Runtime Verification (RV), where we verify that an implementation obeys its requirements during execution. [Question/problem] This paper reports on our experience of using the Formal Requirements Elicitation Tool (FRET) to formalise requirements for an autonomous tilt-rotor drone in the ProVANT Emergentia research project. Structured, formalised requirements help to refine the meaning of, and discover ambiguities in, a requirements set, which is beneficial for safety-critical systems. FRET generates a temporal logic semantics for each requirement, providing formulas that can be used for RV. [Principal ideas/results] We describe the process of formalising the natural-language requirements using FRET. We present the progress made in each of the four versions of the requirements set as new information was elicited and incorporated. Our two concrete outputs are the formalised requirement set, which we will use in our ongoing development and verification of ProVANT;and metrics about the requirements. [Contribution] From our experience, we present guidance for requirements elicitation and formalisation with FRET. In this paper, a single-phase dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based on a Z-source AC-AC converter is proposed. The Z-source converter has a shared ground and continuous input current. Using the impedance network filter feature, the direct connection of the primary side of the injection transformer to the impedance network is provided. Therefore, the proposed system's volume, weight, and cost are reduced due to the elimination of the input and output LC filter. The impedance network consists of a three-winding coupling inductor. Therefore, in addition to the duty cycle, the voltage injected by the DVR can be controlled by the coupled inductor turn ratios. Unlike conventional impedance source converter-based DVRs, the proposed DVR is able to compensate for a wide range of voltage sag and swell, even voltage sags of more than 50%. The proposed DVR is analyzed in different compensation and protection modes and simulation results are presented in PSCAD/EMTDC software to validate the calculated relationships and performance. © 2025 IEEE.

Atomistic simulations are a powerful tool to analyse the structure and the behavior of various biological molecules and are widely used in biochemistry studies. Currently, there are several software packages available which provide the algorithms for the numerical resolution of the physical equation necessary for the simulations. Those softwares are demanding and need to handle a large amounts of resources, therefore the hardware in use has to be efficient in terms of performance and costs. Here we tested the Molecular Dynamics toolkit Gromacs on different platforms: Intel, AMD and ARM clusters are considered, also with the support of NVIDIA GPUs. During the tests energy consumption is measured in both idle and working case obtaining the energy to solution for every machine. While the highest performances are obtained with Intel we found that AMD and ARM servers are valid option if energy savings is considered alongside performance, the use of GPU gives a remarkable contribution to reduce consumption. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
