The necessity of integrating an intelligent decision support system (DSS) in the professional activities of laser-based additive manufacturing (LBAM) process engineers is discussed. The advantages of applying an ontological two-level approach to the formation of semantic information for developing an ontology-based DSS are highlighted. Its key feature is that ontological models are clearly separated from databases and knowledge bases formed on their basis. A set of related ontological models is presented as the basis for the intelligent DSS that is currently being developed. The composition of the set of models, the purpose of its components, and the possible types of relations between them are described. The set includes ontologies of reference databases on LBAM equipment and materials, an ontology for an archive of laser processing technological operation protocols, an ontology of a knowledge bases on the settings of laser processing modes and an ontology of the mathematical model database. The ensemble of ontological models is implemented on the IACPaaS cloud platform using its tools. Ontologies, databases and knowledge base, as well as DSS, are part of the LBAM knowledge portal, which was created and is being developed on the platform. This portal is intended to accumulate and further use the knowledge and experience collected by different technologists. In the future, it will facilitate the reduction of the number of preliminary experiments required to identify a suitable solution. © 2024 IEEE.

Mobile robots must be able to operate independently of potentially unavailable external infrastructure, such as Global Navigation Satellite systems. Ultra Wideband (UWB) enables relative positioning between two mobile objects. Current UWB Follow Me systems rely on multiple receivers for accurate positioning. This paper investigates a single UWB receiver and collects data from Angle of Arrival and joint distance measurements. Our experiment finds a small distance error of 3.8 centimeters and an angular position error of 0.26 ◦ , suggesting the suitability of single-receiver UWB for tracking in Follow Me applications.

With the development of image analysis technology, computer-aided medical image analysis has become an important research field and has been widely used in disease prediction, case analysis, and image enhancement. In this study, the novel joint analysis model is proposed. At the theoretical and modeling level, the model includes two key innovations: a new small-sample image classification algorithm and a new priori-driven deep learning-guided image segmentation algorithm. In the image classification stage, this study used kernel function-based feature scaling technology and multi-modal information fusion methods to retain details to the greatest extent and achieve accurate classification of pathological images in small sample conditions. In the image segmentation stage, this study constructed a new segmentation algorithm through a curvature regularization model and an improved deep neural network, which improved the smoothness and detail retention capabilities of image segmentation. This study is tested on two sets of mainstream data sets, including 800 classification samples and 500 segmentation samples. The experimental results show that compared with the existing methods, the model has improved the classification accuracy by 12.5% and the segmentation IoU index by 15.2 %. The experimental results intuitively verify the accuracy of the proposed algorithm.

With a vast increase in the present amount of digital information with regards to biomedical research, processing related data in an efficient manner assumes critical importance. This work proposes a hybrid summarization method combining extractive and abstractive techniques with the help of cutting-edge models in NLP. While BERT is used to select the most informative sentences capable of summarizing main ideas in a document, Pegasus has been used to generate smooth, concise summaries for the purpose. The results with the metrics like Cosine Similarity and BERTScore, incorporating precision, recall, and F1 score, show the system proposed performs very well by holding onto the meaning that preserves coherent summaries of high quality on generation. It is of great benefit to researchers as well as professionals regarding rapid extraction from vast amounts of complex data.

Creating simulated synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images using electromagnetic algorithms is an effective way to augment insufficient measured SAR data in automatic target recognition applications. However, discrepancies in the modeling process and simplifications of the electromagnetic characteristics inevitably cause some differences between synthetic and mea-sured images. Various other data augmentation methods also exist, such as noise addition, rotation, and numerous generative adversarial network (GAN) techniques. This paper quantitatively discusses the effects of different augmentation methods and provides recommendations for SAR image augmentation.

Rolling contact joints are an advantageous building block for soft-rigid hybrid robots due to their out-of-plane compliance, low resistance to bending, and wide range of motion. Typically, proprioception in these cable-driven mechanisms is achieved through torque and position sensors at the servomotor actuator. However, this indirect measurement of joint position can be inaccurate when the system is non-ideal (e.g., the cables are extensible, friction is not negligible, or the linkage encounters an external disturbance). Here, we introduce a magnetic sensor integrated into rolling contact joints to measure joint position and force. We then explore the design space of this magnetic sensor by varying the orientation of the magnets and the stiffness of the magnetoelastomer. A multilayer perceptron is used to relate the joint position and force to the magnetometer readings, providing the flexibility to use this sensor with various joint geometries and sensing modalities. We find that the accuracy of this sensing and modeling approach is coupled with the configuration of the magnetic elements, and that our system can predict the joint angle, twist, and contact forces with errors as low as 1.6%, 0.1%, and 8.8%, respectively. This work describes a method for enabling proprioception in rolling contact joints, and, more broadly, compliant joints for rigid-soft hybrid robots.

Based on computer vision and machine learning, accurate hand behavior and gesture recognition are crucial, especially for missing or incomplete hand models. Finger joint point prediction technology is of great value for applications such as virtual reality and human posture recognition. However, hand joint point prediction models, such as Google’s MediaPipe, perform well in full-finger models but are ineffective in missing-finger situations. Missing fingers are familiar in clinical medicine, rehabilitation facilities, and unique scenarios such as hand injuries or congenital hand deformities. Accurate prediction of hand joints is critical for hand rehabilitation, prosthetic design, and human motion analysis and inspires the development of related technologies. Since traditional prediction models rely on complete hand data, and missing fingers can make the hand structure irregular, the complexity of prediction increases. This study proposes an improved prediction model focusing on hand joint point prediction in the case of missing fingers, hoping to improve prediction accuracy and provide valuable reference for future applications and research. Among the research results, we successfully integrated the new training image model with MediaPipe, significantly improving missing fingers’ prediction accuracy.

This paper establishes theoretical circuit and electrostatic current multi-physical field simulation models for a typical comb capacitor fabricated with silicon-on-insulation. The influence of related electrical parameters and conditions on equivalent capacitance is revealed by analytical solution and simulation, and several methods are proposed to suppress the interference of parasitic capacitance on ideal capacitance, such as high-resistivity substrate Si, relatively high-frequency excitation, and grounded substrate Si. The models and methods proposed in this paper can provide theoretical guidance for the design and suppression of parasitic capacitance of MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) capacitive sensors.
