AI-based systems possess distinctive characteristics and introduce challenges in quality evaluation at the same time. Consequently, ensuring and validating AI software quality is of critical importance. In this paper, we present an effective AI software functional testing model to address this challenge. Specifically, we first present a comprehensive literature review of previous work, covering key facets of AI software testing processes. We then introduce a 3D classification model to systematically evaluate the image-based text extraction AI function, as well as test coverage criteria and complexity. To evaluate the performance of our proposed AI software quality test, we propose four evaluation metrics to cover different aspects. Finally, based on the proposed framework and defined metrics, a mobile Optical Character Recognition (OCR) case study is presented to demonstrate the framework's effectiveness and capability in assessing AI function quality.

Recent trends in next-item recommendation systems have focused on modeling user intents. Traditional methods often extract users' inherent intents from the most representative items in a session, overlooking “unexpected items” that deviate from the majority in various contextual aspects. These unexpected items, frequently present, can be crucial indicators of a user's inclination towards exploring new options, signaling emerging intents that warrant significant attention. In response, we introduce DbMei, a novel approach that decouples user behaviors and emphasizes the modeling of emerging intents. DbMei distinguishes between two user behavior types: “focused shopping”, which aligns with users' inherent intents, and”wandering shopping”, which aligns with emerging intents. Focused shopping is analyzed using topic modeling and hypergraph learning while wandering shopping is explored through session neighbor retrieval. An exploitation-exploration mechanism is employed to determine the behavioral probability distribution for upcoming items. This integrated modeling of focused and wandering shopping behaviors drives our recommendation process. Extensive empirical studies on two real-world datasets, Amazon-KDD and Beauty, showcase DbMei's superiority over leading methods regarding Recall and MRR metrics. The investigation focused on the phenomenon of percolation within a system of straight nanotubes, with the development of an adapted model to characterize this process. A computational algorithm was devised to ascertain the percolation probability of nanotubes, utilizing tools for 3D graphics visualization. The study delved into the impact of geometric dimensions and nanotube concentration on the percolation probability. The research explored the correlation between percolation probability and the dispersion angle, which determines the orientation of nanotubes. By analyzing this relationship, fundamental patterns emerged in the formation of conductive clusters under the influence of an electric field. This analysis facilitated the identification of optimal parameters for a nanotube system capable of demonstrating field-controlled percolation.

Analog computation-in-memory (CIM) architecture alleviates massive data movement between the memory and the processor, thus promising great prospects to accelerate certain computational tasks in an energy-efficient manner. However, data converters involved in these architectures typically achieve the required computing accuracy at the expense of high area and energy footprint which can potentially determine CIM candidacy for low-power and compact edge-AI devices. In this work, we present a memory-periphery co-design to perform accurate A/D conversions of analog matrix-vector-multiplication (MVM) outputs. Here, we introduce a scheme where select-lines and bit-lines in the memory are virtually fixed to improve conversion accuracy and aid a ring-oscillator-based A/D conversion, equipped with component sharing and inter-matching of the reference blocks. In addition, we deploy a self-timed technique to further ensure high robustness addressing global design and cycle-to-cycle variations. Based on measurement results of a 4Kb CIM chip prototype equipped with TSMC 40nm, a relative accuracy of up to 99.71% is achieved with an energy efficiency of 115.1 TOPS/W and computational density of 12.1 TOPS/mm2 for the MNIST dataset. Thus, an improvement of up to 11.3X and 7.5X compared to the state-of-the-art, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Personality computing has become an emerging topic in computer vision, due to the wide range of applications it can be used for. However, most works on the topic have focused on analyzing the individual, even when applied to interaction scenarios, and for short periods of time. To address these limitations, we present the Dyadformer, a novel multi-modal multi-subject Transformer architecture to model individual and interpersonal features in dyadic interactions using variable time windows, thus allowing the capture of long-term interdependencies. Our proposed cross-subject layer allows the network to explicitly model interactions among subjects through attentional operations. This proof-of-concept approach shows how multi-modality and joint modeling of both interactants for longer periods of time helps to predict individual attributes. With Dyadformer, we improve state-of-the-art self-reported personality inference results on individual subjects on the UDIVA v0.5 dataset.

Pectus excavatum (PE) is one of the most common congenital sternal deformities. Accurate preoperative diagnosis of PE is of great significance for subsequent correction and improvement of the patient's quality of life. However, current diagnostic methods rely on the calculation of some PE indices, which is a heavy workload for physical therapists and suffers from measurement errors. To address this issue, we propose an end-to-end automatic assessment of PE, which features a cascaded structure of CNN and LSTM. Specifically, the high-level feature representations of CT images are extracted by the pretrained CNN and then processed through the LSTM layers for classification. In addition, we build up a medical image dataset for PE diagnosis by collecting chest CT images of 42 subjects. Results on this dataset show that the proposed CNN-LSTM framework achieves a relatively high accuracy of 90.20%, which provides a new perspective for the automatic diagnosis of PE in clinics. © 2023 IEEE.

This study presents a smart glove system capable of precisely measuring speed, grip strength, and angles, providing real-time feedback to athletes for improved training. The glove incorporates sensors, including gyroscopes and accelerometers, to record hand movement data. computer vision algorithms, such as MediaPipe and YOLOv7, are used to process this data and generate 3D models. Deep learning algorithms are then applied to analyze these models, assess motion accuracy, and offer corrective feedback. The smart glove has been tested in various sporting environments, proving to be a valuable tool for enhancing athletic performance by distinguishing between correct and incorrect motions, delivering targeted suggestions, and ultimately improving performance.

This paper investigates the effectiveness of classifying noisy images using a combined network model that integrates a spiking neuron-astrocyte network with a convolutional neural network. This research is relevant and novel in the context of developing more efficient and robust computer vision systems. Noisy images are a realistic scenario for many computer vision applications, such as image recognition, autonomous driving, and medical diagnosis. The combined model, integrating a spiking neuron-astrocyte network with a convolutional neural network, presents a novel approach to image classification. Investigating the effectiveness of such a model in the context of noisy images opens up new possibilities for enhancing classification accuracy and robustness, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of the interactions between neurons and astrocytes in the context of image processing.

Monocular 3D object detection is a critical component in autonomous driving systems, aiming to infer spatial properties from single-camera inputs. This paper presents a method that integrates YOL011 for 2D object detection and MiDaS for depth estimation to construct accurate 3D bounding boxes. By employing a calibration process and leveraging depth-aware tilting mechanisms, the model achieves precise object localization in real-world settings. The proposed approach demonstrated competitive accuracy on the KITTI dataset, with significant improvements in computational efficiency, making it suitable for real-time applications. Limitations in occlusion handling and depth extent estimation are discussed alongside future enhancement directions.

This article presents a cross-domain fault diagnosis method for industrial equipment leveraging the Lightweight Spatial Pyramid Network (LSPNet) based on edge computing. The proposed method integrates multi-scale features through a dilated convolutional pyramid and enhances the representation ability of fault features through hierarchical feature fusion (HFF). Specifically designed for edge devices, LSPNet ensures high accuracy while reducing computational load. Validated using the Benchmark Gear System and the Rotating Machinery Fault Simulator Platform, the method exhibits exceptional precision in fault diagnosis across different domains. Compared to traditional deep learning models, the model also demonstrates a marked enhancement in lightweight metrics, holding significant value for industrial applications.
