Discrete-event simulation is a widely used method for modeling complex systems and evaluating their performance in production. However, the management of discrete-event simulation models and their associated data can be challenging, especially when dealing with large and heterogeneous data sets. In this paper, we present a knowledge graph-based framework that facilitates the management of discrete-event simulation models by representing them and their associated data as a knowledge graph. Our framework enables the integration of multiple data sources, supports the reuse of existing models, and enables the support for different applications based on the knowledge graph. Specifically, we demonstrate the application of our framework to the management of discrete-event simulation models in a use case of automatic model generation for a production line. Our results show that our framework provides an effective solution for managing discrete-event simulation models and their associated data, enabling users to easily query, update, and extend the models while maintaining their integrity and consistency. Overall, our work contributes to the development of knowledge-based solutions for managing complex systems and supports the broader adoption of discrete-event simulation in practice. © 2023 IEEE.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) designing and testing of different applications is significant from a user point of view. GUI testing ensures that the user interface of apps is visually appealing, user-friendly, and enhances user satisfaction. Pattern-based GUI Testing (PBGT) is a new model-based testing approach that aims to enhance reusability while reducing the workload associated with modeling user interfaces and testing applications. The objective of conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on pattern-based GUI testing is to consolidate existing knowledge and provide insights for improving the effectiveness of PBGT methods. The objectives of conducting an SLR are the identification of current state-of-the-art approaches and tools in the targeted research context. To accomplish the mentioned objectives, A hybrid methodology combining Kitchenham's SLR and PRISMA guidelines was used to conduct this SLR. We performed a keyword-based search on well-known databases IEEE, ACM, Science Direct, Wiley, and Springer Link to determine the potential studies published in the last 10 years. Following a comprehensive systematic analysis, we identified a total of twenty-four studies employing varied approaches for pattern-based GUI testing. Additionally, we identified 11 tools that have been used and proposed in PBGT for Android and web apps and made a taxonomy of tools. We also identified challenges and research directions. The implications of this study are significant. The current study is helpful for researchers intending to work in pattern-based GUI testing. The comprehensive knowledge about the current state-of-the-art Tools, techniques, and approaches will help practitioners to effectively apply them in industry and enable researchers to extend their work in this context in future research. © 2023 IEEE.

DAMPE was sent into space orbit for nearly nine years. Since its expected lifespan is only three years, DAMPE has surpassed its expected lifespan by almost six years. Due to its long stay in orbit, some of its components have met with such puzzles as the capabilities of the equipment are partially degrading. The effects of the space environment are responsible for some of its degradation. So, the knowledge of the space environment in the coming year is vital for DAMPE operation. We focus on the following factors: 1) electrons and protons trapped in Earth's radiation belts;2) solar proton effect;3) cosmic ray effect;4) atom oxygen distribution. based on the powerful analytic software SPENVIS, some typical effects of space environments are simulated and analyzed respectively, providing supportive constraints when the task team of DAMPE decides when to lengthen the lifespan, or when to start the reentry to Earth's atmosphere. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To address the limitations of existing code defect detection methods, which only analyze code defects from a single perspective and produce uninterpretable results, we introduce a new approach known as Defect Detection Method based on code defect knowledge Graph (DDMB). This method involves several steps. First, we clean and organize defect-related knowledge, defining concepts of defect entities, attributes, and relationships to establish a code defect knowledge graph. Next, using abstract syntax trees, we extract various information from the code, including control flow diagrams, control dependency graphs, data dependency graphs, program dependency graphs, and code attribute graphs, to capture relevant details about nodes and edges. based on the structural and logical information represented by node-edge associations, we employ the Deepwalk algorithm to construct a directed graph of the code and generate random walk sequences. These sequences serve as a foundation for learning and vector representation. Finally, we compare the vector similarities between the generated representations and a candidate code list from the defect knowledge graph, which has undergone initial semantic threshold filtering. By querying the defect labels of the most similar code in the defect code knowledge graph, we determine whether the code under inspection contains defects. Experimental results reveal that DDMB improves defect detection accuracy by 2.02% compared to existing methods. Additionally, it enhances the interpretability and reliability of defect detection while facilitating multi-dimensional analysis of code defects, thus providing better support for practical applications. © 2023 IEEE.

softwarerequirement plays a vital role in the success of a software project. However, the quality of requirement management remains a key challenge for a project manager, especially in a Crowdsourcing context. In Crowdsourcing, the customers belong from diverse locations;thereby, providing the redundant and inconsistent requirements for a targeted software system. To the best of our knowledge, the existing literature lacks in providing a quantitative framework that prioritizes the crucial factors affecting the requirement's management in the Crowdsourcing context. Motivated by this, we propose a quantitative framework that will be effective in ranking the Crowdsourcing-based requirements. For this purpose, the current study intends to identify various factors, that can affect the management of requirements, from the literature and also validates them from the practitioners. To accomplish this, we perform a systematic review and an empirical study. Moreover, we quantify the impact of each factor using the capability of a multi-criteria decision-making oriented Fuzzy- Analytical Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) technique. Subsequently, we also employ a multi-perspective prioritization technique to obtain the data from the relevant personnel to validate the quantified score. To assess the performance of the proposed quantitative framework, we considered a real-world Smart Home case study. Moreover, the efficacy of the adopted F-AHP technique is validated by comparing it with the traditional AHP technique. The results indicate that the F-AHP technique significantly outperformed the baseline technique. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart contract decompilers, converting smart contract bytecode into smart contract source code, have been used extensively in many scenarios such as binary code analysis, reverse engineering, and security studies. However, existing studies, as well as industrial engineering practices, all assumed that smart contract decompilers are reliable and trustworthy, to generate correct and semantically equivalent source code from binaries. Unfortunately, whether such an assumption truly holds in practice is still unknown. In this paper, we conduct, to the best of our knowledge, the first and most comprehensive large-scale empirical study of smart contract decompilers, to gain an understanding of the reliability, limitations, and remaining research challenges of state-of-the-art smart contract decompilation tools. We first designed and implemented a software prototype SOLINSIGHT, then used it to study 5 state-of-the-art smart contract decompilers. We obtained important findings and insights from empirical results, such as: 1) we proposed 3 root causes leading to decompiler failures;2) we revealed 2 reasons hurting performance;3) we identified 3 root causes affecting decompilation effectiveness;4) we proposed a measurement metric for completeness;and 5) we investigated the resilience of contract decompilers against program transformations. We suggest that: 1) decompiler builders should enhance decompilers in terms of effectiveness, performance, and completeness;and 2) security researchers should select appropriate decompilers based on the suggestions in this study. We believe these findings and suggestions will help decompiler builders, contract developers, and security researchers, by providing better guidelines for contract decompiler studies.

Link prediction and entity resolution play pivotal roles in uncovering hidden relationships within networks and ensuring data quality in the era of heterogeneous data integration. This paper explores the utilization of large language models to enhance link prediction, particularly through knowledge graphs derived from transdisciplinary literature. Investigating zero-shot entity resolution techniques, we examine the impact of ontology-based and large language model approaches on the stability of link prediction results. Through a case study focusing on chronic lower back pain research, we analyze workflow decisions and their influence on prediction outcomes. Our research underscores the importance of robust methodologies in improving predictive accuracy and data integration across diverse domains.

Domain modeling, which represents the concepts and relationships in a problem domain, is an essential part of software engineering. As large language models (LLMs) have recently exhibited remarkable ability in language understanding and generation, many approaches are designed to automate domain modeling with LLMs. However, these approaches usually formulate all input information to the LLM in a single step. Our previous single-step approach resulted in many missing modeling elements and advanced patterns. This paper introduces a novel framework designed to enhance fully automated domain model generation. The proposed multi-step automated domain modeling approach extracts model elements (e.g., classes, attributes, and relationships) from problem descriptions. The approach includes instructions and human knowledge in each step and uses an iterative process to identify complex patterns, repeatedly extracting the pattern from various instances and then synthesizing these extractions into a summarized overview. Furthermore, the framework incorporates a self-reflection mechanism. This mechanism assesses each generated model element, offering self-feedback for necessary modifications or removals, and integrates the domain model with the generated self-feedback. The proposed approach is assessed in experiments, comparing it with a baseline single-step approach from our earlier work. Experiments demonstrate a significant improvement over our earlier work, with a 22.71% increase in the F-1-score for identifying classes, 75.18% for relationships, and a 10.39% improvement for identifying the player-role pattern, with comparable performance for attributes. Our approach, dataset, and evaluation provide valuable insight for future research in automated LLM-based domain modeling.

software reproducibility plays an essential role in establishing trust between source code and the built artifacts, by comparing compilation outputs acquired from independent users. Although the testing for unreproducible builds could be automated, fixing unreproducible build issues poses a set of challenges within the reproducible builds practice, among which we consider the localization granularity and the historical knowledge utilization as the most significant ones. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel approach RepFix that combines tracing-based fine-grained localization with history-based patch generation mechanisms. On the one hand, to tackle the localization granularity challenge, we adopt system-level dynamic tracing to capture both the system call traces and user-space function call information. By integrating the kernel probes and user-space probes, we could determine the location of each executed build command more accurately. On the other hand, to tackle the historical knowledge utilization challenge, we design a similarity based relevant patch retrieving mechanism, and generate patches by applying the edit operations of the existing patches. With the abundant patches accumulated by the reproducible builds practice, we could generate patches to fix the unreproducible builds automatically. To evaluate the usefulness of RepFix, extensive experiments are conducted over a dataset with 116 real-world packages. based on RepFix, we successfully fix the unreproducible build issues for 64 packages. Moreover, we apply RepFix to the Arch Linux packages, and successfully fix four packages. Two patches have been accepted by the repository, and there is one package for which the patch is pushed and accepted by its upstream repository, so that the fixing could be helpful for other downstream repositories.
