Heuristic evaluation has become one of the methods most used by specialists to measure the level of usability of software products. However, there are many differences between authors on how to execute this inspection process. From a systematic review of the literature carried out in a previous study, it was possible to identify the two most relevant approaches to carry out this evaluation process: the qualitative approach proposed by Nielsen and the quantitative approach established by Granollers. Although both proposals aim to identify design problems to be corrected subsequently to improve the level of usability, the quantitative proposal also establishes a mechanism to obtain a value between 0 and 100 on the level of usability of the product, system, or service. In this way, it is possible to make comparisons and identify the remaining percentage of a proposal to achieve an appropriate level of usability. In this study, the differences in the results obtained from applying both approaches for the usability evaluation of a publicly accessible website in Peru are analyzed. The purpose is for this research to serve as a guide for executing heuristic evaluations and used for specialists and development teams to choose the most appropriate approach in their business scenarios. The results show that although many findings are similar, both approaches have differences and specific advantages that are discussed in depth.

Diagrams are often used as a means to provide explanations as part of interactions between two agents. While common, this use of diagrams has not been widely examined in the literature. We show that diagrams are particularly useful in these situations because it is possible to observe and reason about an appropriately constructed diagram as a proxy for reasoning about the target domain. This is possible because of "consequence matching" which can occur when the logic of the diagram is designed to match the logic of the target domain in ways that are relevant to the explanation. We illustrate the relevant phenomena by way of examples using a range of common information graphics. We contrast the kind of diagrammatic explanations that we have identified with various kinds of "visual explanations" that have been explored in cognitive science, computerscience and information design.

Sign language is a crucial communication carrier among deaf people to express and exchange their thoughts and emotions. However, ordinary individuals cannot acquire proficiency in sign language in the short term, which leads to deaf people facing huge barriers with the sound community. Regarding this conundrum, it is valuable to investigate Sign Language Recognition (SLR) equipped with sensors which collect data for the following computer vision processing. This study has reviewed the sensor-based SLR methods, which can transform heterogeneous signals from various underlying sensors into high-level motion representations. Specifically, we have summarized current developments in sensor-based SLR techniques from the perspective of modalities. Addtionally, we have also distilled the sensor-based SLR paradigm and compared the state-of-the-art works, including computer vision. Following that, we have concluded the research opportunities and future work expectations.

Generative AI has become an all-present tool for high school, vocational, and higher education students. Managing the potential of this AI-driven tool is equally important for teachers, as it facilitates ensuring students use it appropriately. This study centers on gathering data from students' perspectives and their interactions with a web-based problem-solving classroom orchestration tool augmented with generative AI capabilities. Results show that students see potential in the use of GenAI for various classroom scenarios. They have a clear understanding of how their peers also use these tools and how it affects their learning process, both positively and negatively. The findings also indicate that students' engagement with AI chatbots integrated into a devoted tool for classroom orchestration enhances their active participation and provides immediate responses to their doubts, in collaboration with teachers who oversee and complement student support during classroom sessions. Additionally, the results highlight the significance of crafting well-formulated prompts to elicit clear and precise responses. Overall, students have positively recognized the utility of the tool for accessing supplementary examples and explanations, which serve as valuable additions to teacher-led orchestration compensating the additional types of teacher supervision needs (e.g. prompts).
