The definition and understanding of UX data and its possibilities for analysis and production of insights play a key role in software teams' adoption of UX practices. Information Visualization (InfoVis) offers approaches to assist the design of visualizations that users could better explore. Besides, it provides principles to support the analysis of information that emerged from data. This paper introduces a doctoral research project that uses Design science Research (DSR) as a general methodology to guide successive research cycles involving investigations in the grey literature and exploratory studies to build a framework. Collaboration between humans and intelligent agents has become an integral component of everyday life due to advancements in intelligent technologies. Emotional communication plays a particularly important role in this human-computer relationship. In addition to enhancing experiences, emotional communication facilitates decision-making, improves efficiency, and serves various other beneficial purposes. Current research is focused on human-computer empathy, which enables intelligent agents to seamlessly integrate into human societies by simulating empathic emotions. This research draws upon knowledge from psychology, computerscience, design, sociology, and other relevant disciplines. This paper provides an overview of human-computer empathy, covering definitions, principles, technical implementations, and design aspects to illuminate the complex landscape of knowledge in this area. Two specific areas are given detailed attention: technical implementation and empathy design. In the technical implementation section, the paper delves into the psychological theoretical foundations for developing artificial empathy models, techniques of affective computing, and related artificial empathy models. In the design section, it discusses methods for implementing empathic responses, analyzing designs using social psychology, and outlines various design principles and evaluation methods. Efficient processing architectures for irregular data patterns require vector element addressing with flexible indices. Therefore, state-of-the-art SIMD vector extensions implement gather and scatter instructions for indexed addressing of data in memory. In vertical vector processors, different data is processed sequentially in parallel lanes and can be exchanged via chaining. This paper proposes an extension of such chaining mechanisms in a vertical vector processor architecture (V2PRO) to flexibly chain not only data but also address offsets between vector lanes. The indirect addressing enables vector access patterns with irregular strides for both register file and memory. The extension has a low hardware overhead of +4.8 % lookup tables and +1.8% registers on a Xilinx Ultrascale+ FPGA. A runtime evaluation for two applications from computer vision, namely Deformable Convolutions and point cloud encoding with PointPillars, demonstrates speedups of at least an order of magnitude with the proposed extension.

This paper describes a method for analyzing learning data from video courses. The data comes from an on-demand introductory programming course at a university. The study analyzes differences in note content characteristics across students by exploring patterns of student notes in a video learning environment, combining quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis centered on the vocabulary used in student notes. By deploying a custom designed learning support system, we facilitated the straightforward expression of students' questions and notes, thereby collecting rich data reflecting their learning process. Initial findings suggest that the frequency and distribution of specific vocabulary used in students' notes provide insights into the range of learners' interests and depth of understanding. For example, although different students recorded notes on the same topic at a specific point in a video, there were significant differences in their focus and note content. Some students tended to record how-to's and specific features, while others focused more on theoretical concepts and programming principles. These findings show that individual student differences significantly influence their learning focus and information-processing style in a video learning environment. This analysis method allows educators to target instructional interventions based on learners' unique characteristics of engagement and comprehension as demonstrated through vocabulary use. The preliminary results of this study provide educators with insights to help them understand learner diversity in digital learning environments, providing an essential basis for personalized lesson design and improved learning outcomes.

Higher-order functions and imperative states are language features supported by many mainstream languages. Their combination is expressive and useful, but complicates specification and reasoning, due to the use of yet-to-be-instantiated function parameters. One inherent limitation of existing specification mechanisms is its reliance on only two stages : an initial stage to denote the precondition at the start of the method and a final stage to capture the postcondition. Such two-stage specifications force abstract properties to be imposed on unknown function parameters, leading to less precise specifications for higher-order methods. To overcome this limitation, we introduce a novel extension to Hoare logic that supports multiple stages for a call-by-value higher-order language with ML-like local references. Multiple stages allow the behavior of unknown function-type parameters to be captured abstractly as uninterpreted relations;and can also model the repetitive behavior of each recursion as a separate stage. In this paper, we define our staged logic with its semantics, prove its soundness and develop a new automated higher-order verifier, called Heifer, for a core ML-like language.
