Rather than attempting to separate signal from noise in the spatial domain, it is often advantageous to work in a transform domain. Building on previous work, a novel denoising method based on local adaptive multi-scale wavelet least squares support vector regression is proposed. Investigation on real images contaminated by Gaussian noise has demonstrated that the proposed method can achieve an acceptable trade off between the noise removal and smoothing of the edges and details.

High speed movement of target leads to quadratic phase of the dechirped signal. A new high speed movement compensation method based on integrated cubic phase function is proposed. Numerical result shows that the algorithm can precisely estimate the quadratic phase coefficient and compensate the high resolution range profile under low signal to noise ratio. After compensation, the aberration of range profile is revised and the quality of ISAR image is greatly improved. In this way, the effectiveness of the method is verified.

In this paper, we proposed a method is used to estimate an aircraft's own position in flight depending on acquisition and tracking an enlarged landmark in an image sequence. acquisition operation is based on matching 2D template with a 2D scene of the landmark area generated by the aircraft seeker. After the landmark location is acquired, tracking the center point of the landmark maintains the slant range estimate between the sensor and the landmark which is calculated depending on data of three successive positions from the measured IMU/ GPS information. Then, we obtain the absolute position of the aircraft in the world coordinate system (WCS) with the transformation from the landmark coordinate system (LCS) into the WCS. Finally, bias errors of the Inertial Navigation are corrected for navigation of the aircraft. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

We perform face tracking and pose estimation jointly within a mixed-state particle filter framework. Previous methods often used generative appearance models and naive prior state transition. We propose to use discriminating models, Adaboosted face detectors, to both measure observations and provide information for the proposal distribution which is combined with detection responses and prior transition model. Due to pose continuity, faces between discrete poses can be detected by neighboring pose-specific detectors and serve as importance samples. Thus continuous poses are obtained instead of discrete poses. Experiments show that our method is robust to large location and pose changes, partial occlusions and expressions.

The reflectance properties of a surface are an essential factor in its appearance. Much previous work has focused on the problem of reflectance recovery from images. These methods must assume an a priori grouping of pixels into uniform-reflectance regions. In this paper we presented a method for automatic grouping of pixels for reflectance estimation. First a over-segmentation is achieved by traditional image segmentation. For each image region of the over-segmentation, a probability distribution is built and a reflectance subspace is formed by likelihood thresholding. The regions with the same reflectance are then merged by adapting a traditional bayesian formulation for image segmentation to increase estimation accuacy. After completing the merging process, reflectance parameter estimates are computed for the remaining subspaces by the maximum likelihood reflectance estimate. The experiment results on a synthetic scene and a real scene show our method can achieve a more accurate image segmentation and reflectance estimation than traditional methods.

The accuracy of target acquisition depends on preparation of templates and selection of matching measures. Consequently, the fusion of different information supplied by various metrics has important value to increase the success rate of target acquisition. The fusion of two measures is described to illustrate this method. We may firstly use template matching in terms of the first measure to find the locations and heights of top N peaks, and then compute the value under the other measure on the position of each peak. Regarding all of the peaks as the recognition frame and measures as different evidence, Dempster Combination Rules can be used to fuse the data. Furthermore, dual measures fusion can be extended to application of multiple measures. When more than two measures are employed, weights of different measures are unnecessary to be assigned artificially but gain from the distances between every two pieces of evidence. Some typical targets of urban tall buildings are used to test the performance of template matching with measures fusion. The experimental data validates the fusion of multi-measures is effective to improve the capability of target recognition.

Advanced mammalian target identification derived from the perception of target's manifold and measurement manifolddistance. It does not rely on object's segmented accuracy, not depend on target's variety model, and adapt to a range of changes on targets. In this paper, based on the existed manifold learning algorithm, set up a new bionic automatic target recognition model, discussed the targets manifold knowledge acquisition and the knowledge expression architecture, gave a manifold knowledge-based new method for automatic target recognition. Experiments show that the new method has a strong adaptability to targets various transform, and has a very high correctly identification probability. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

This paper deals with research on detecting moving point target trajectory in image sequence. A novel method is presents for this purpose, which combines two 2-dimension Hough transforms to suppress noise points and to detect trajectory points in time order. The first Hough transform has an accumulators array using a restricted voting process and a set of straight lines are found in the image plane. A new T-L parameter space is proposed which is derived from these straight lines. In the second transform, collinear points are mapped into T-L space and it is easy to find the direction of motion. Experimental results show that our method can effectively extract moving point target trajectory accurately in a limited observing time especially scanning images from large numbers of noise points while search region is much larger than target movability.

Color cast is a major problem of target detection and recognition base on image feature analysis. A color cast detection and correction algorithm for video-image in nature scene is proposed in this paper. To overcome the inaccurate detection in existed color cast detection method based on RGB space,the analysis method based on the color distribution characteristics of the equivalent circle in Lab space is proposed. In order to achieve better color correction results, the gray balance and perfect reflection method is combined to reproduce the actual color of the objects, especially a modified method for images with severe color deviation. Experimental results show that the proposed methods can detect the degree of color cast correctly, achieve better correction results, and meet the real-time requirements.

A new region growing based algorithm for extracting roads in spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is presented in this paper. The basic idea is that an initial seed point moves in a determined direction with a certain step length. The algorithm is composed of five sequential steps: the first is to search initial seed point and the second is to choose a circular window size similar to the width of the first road. In the third step, the criteria for region growing are chosen, and the fourth is to determine the key elements of new roads growing. At last, stopping rules are specified. The experimental results show that the proposed method can better extracted roads in SAR images.
