IC packages, in semiconductor industries, are being marked through certain sequence by either laser marker or ink markers. A critical step in the final visual inspection is the orientation check of ICs that can be determined by detecting images of pin-1 notch or pin-1 dimple, which are molded/marked on the IC packages. This study accomplishes a software interface for a simple cost-effective approach to develop an automated low cost vision system that is capable of detecting the IC orientation on a JEDEC tray for a laser/ink marker system used in the IC industries. The algorithm has the competence and flexibility to distinguish correct orientation for various types of IC packages (QFP, PGA, BGA, flip chip etc.). The workable prototype possesses input variables, control system and output variables along with software implementation using the pattern recognition template based on RGB (red-green-blue) color method for every pixel of the images. Images of Pin-1 dimple or pin-1 notch of the IC packages are considered to perform image matching with the software development. The accuracy level has been achieved to a threshold value of above 80% of the total pixels scanned between the matched images. With this threshold value, matching efficiency between two similar images has been attained near about 100%, based on the proposed algorithmic results. Illumination variation, vibration of the machine on conveyors and handlers, computerpsilas timing gap with the Web camera and low resolution (320times240 or 277times245 pixels) of the taken images have made the image matching a complicated one. However, all the constraints are taken into account for setting the threshold value and obtaining the matching accuracy and have been achieved the appropriate matching algorithm to implement the cost effective automated IC orientation checking system.

Advances in face recognition have come from considering various aspects of this specialized perception problem. Earlier methods treated face recognition as a standard pattern recognition problem; later methods focused more on the representation aspect, after realizing its uniqueness using domain knowledge; more recent methods have been concerned with both representation and recognition, so a robust system with good generalization capability can be built by adopting state-of-the-art techniques from learning, computer vision, and pattern recognition. A face recognition system based on recent method which concerned with both representation and recognition using artificial neural networks is presented. This paper initially provides the overview of the proposed face recognition system, and explains the methodology used. It then evaluates the performance of the system by applying two (2) photometric normalization techniques: histogram equalization and homomorphic filtering, and comparing with euclidean distance, and normalized correlation classifiers. In this paper, a novel two dimensional orthogonal wavelet features (2DOWF) method is presented for image representation and face recognition. The 2DOWF method derives 2D orthogonal wavelet (Gabor or Log Gabor) features in the feature extraction stage and then develops the cosine matrix measure for classification in the pattern recognition stage. 2DOWF method operates on the spatial structure of the pixels that defines the image. The wavelet transformed face images exhibit strong characteristics of spatial locality, scale, and orientation selectivity. These images can, thus, produce salient local features that are most suitable for face recognition. The two dimensional reduction PCA was used to detect noise, redundant features and form a representation in which these features are reduced. Analysis on the ORL dataset shows that the 2D orthogonal Log Gabor features are more suitable for face recognition than the 2D orthogonal Gabor features and the 2DPCA representation with an accuracy of 98.0% compared to 92.5% and 90.5%.

Probabilistic study on the multiple solutions of the P3P problem

Under some special conditions, the P3P problem can have 1, 2, 3 and 4 solutions, and if the 3 control points and the optical center lie on a circle, the problem is indeterminate. In this paper, by the Monte Carlo approach of up to 1 million samples, it is shown that the probabilities of the P3P problem with one solution, two solutions, three solutions, and four solutions are respectively 0.9993, 0.0007, 0.0000, 0.0000. The result confirms the well-known fact that in the most cases, the P3P has a unique solution.

This paper proposes an image binarization method based on the human vision system. It firstly gets the image threshold value according to the Euclidean distance, then uses the standard deviation to determine the visual sensitivity coefficient of each pixel according to the human visual characteristic, finally performs image binarization according to the gray value, the image threshold and the visual sensitivity coefficient. This method can both effectively eliminate the ghosts, and keep the character stroke well. The experimental results show that this method is more effective than Ostu method and Bernsen method. It is superior to Ostu method and Bernsen method in the entropy. It also provides a new effective way for image binarization.

Hexagonal structure is another image structure alternative to traditional square image structure for image processing and computer vision. The geometrical arrangement of pixels on a hexagonal structure can be described as a collection of hexagonal pixels. Because all the existing hardware for capturing image and for displaying image are produced based on square structure, it becomes important to find a proper software approach to mimic hexagonal structure so that images represented on the traditional square structure can be smoothly converted from or to the images on hexagonal structure. For accurate image processing, it is critical to best maintain the image resolution during the image conversion. In this paper, a bilinear interpolation algorithm that is used to convert an image from square structure to hexagonal structure is presented. Based on this, an edge detection method is proposed. Our experimental results show that the bilinear interpolation improves the edge detection accuracy.

Training a generic objectness measure to produce a small set of candidate object windows, has been shown to speed up the classical sliding window object detection paradigm. We observe that generic objects with well-defined closed boundary can be discriminated by looking at the norm of gradients, with a suitable resizing of their corresponding image windows in to a small fixed size. Based on this observation and computational reasons, we propose to resize the window to 8 × 8 and use the norm of the gradients as a simple 64D feature to describe it, for explicitly training a generic objectness measure. We further show how the binarized version of this feature, namely binarized normed gradients (BING), can be used for efficient objectness estimation, which requires only a few atomic operations (e.g. ADD, BITWISE SHIFT, etc.). Experiments on the challenging PASCAL VOC 2007 dataset show that our method efficiently (300fps on a single lap-top CPU) generates a small set of category-independent, high quality object windows, yielding 96.2% object detection rate (DR) with 1,000 proposals. Increasing the numbers of proposals and color spaces for computing BING features, our performance can be further improved to 99.5% DR.

The ability to detect pedestrians is a first important step in many computer vision applications such as video surveillance. This paper presents an experimental study on pedestrian detection using state-of-the-art local feature extraction and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. The performance of pedestrian detection using region covariance, histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) and local receptive fields (LRF) feature descriptors is experimentally evaluated. The experiments are performed on both the benchmarking dataset used in [1] and the MIT CBCL dataset. Both can be publicly accessed. The experimental results show that region covariance features with radial basis function (RBF) kernel SVM and HOG features with quadratic kernel SVM outperform the combination of LRF features with quadratic kernel SVM reported in [1].

In this paper, we propose a matching method for remote sensing images based on corner structures. Firstly corner angle vector is defined to analysis corner structure, and the process of how to obtain it is discussed in detail. Then some measures are given to eliminate the false corners. Finally a relaxation matching scheme is presented. The experiments show the effectiveness and feasibility of our matching method.
