With the rapid development of information technology, natural disaster prevention is growing as a new research field dealing with surveillance systems. To forecast and prevent the damage caused by natural disasters, the development of systems to analyze natural disasters using remote sensing geographic information systems (GIS), and vision sensors has been receiving widespread interest over the last decade. This paper provides an up-to-date review of five different types of natural disasters and their corresponding warning systems using computervision and patternrecognition techniques such as wildfire smoke and flame detection, water level detection for flood prevention, coastal zone monitoring, and landslide detection. This paper presents a pronominal anaphora resolution (PAR) approach that makes use of the global discourse knowledge along with other traditional features. So far the features used in finding the referent of an anaphoric pronoun are computed locally. Normally the sentence containing the anaphor and a few sentences immediately before form the local context. In this process, the knowledge base gets updated as more and more of the discourse is processed. Keeping this approach as the core, the present paper explores use of some prior knowledge after examining the entire discourse (whole article). Addition of this processing step improves the PAR's efficiency. This improvement is demonstrated using ICON 2011 Bangla dataset.

According to that the SIFT algorithm contains contour property in the process of computation of scale-space, this paper proposes an improved SIFT algorithm named Contour directed-SIFT to offset the flaws of real-time in SIFT algorithm. In order to improve the accuracy of SIFT algorithm, the paper improve the Contour directed-SIFT algorithm using the epipolar constraint. Taking the two aspects above, a new matching algorithm based on SIFT algorithm in binocular vision is proposed. This algorithm can assure the real-time and accuracy in matching images, which can be applied in matching of massive features of tridimensional vision.

Images with text are frequently used on Internet for different purposes. Automatic recognition of text from web images plays an important role on extraction and retrieval of web information. However, the web images are usually in low resolution with artifacts and special effects, which makes word recognition a challenge task even after the text has been localized. In this paper, we propose a robust text recognition technique to efficiently convert the web images into text format. The proposed technique first makes use of the L0 norm smoothing to increase the edge contrast of the input web images. The images are then binarized on each color channel. A connected component analysis is followed to identify the possible character components. Finally the character candidates are recognized by the OCR engine after skew correction. Extensive experiments have been conducted on the latest ICDAR 2011 robust reading competition dataset for born-digital text. The experimental results show the superior performance of our proposed technique.
