To reconstruct a 3D scene around the lunar rover from stereo image-pairs captured by the panoramic cameras, based on which an intuitive platform can be put up for scientists to plan exploration commands, we set about to study the 3D scene reconstruction. This paper mainly presents a scheme of registering local scene models to reconstruction a large scene. When a few of local 3D scene models have been reconstructed respectively, we firstly find the common 3D point sets between every two adjacent local models based on edge detection and image matching, secondly fit the matrix of coordinate transformation employing the technique of separating rotation matrix and translate vector, and lastly register these local 3D models into a uniform coordinate system. In this scheme, we don't need to set a few of control points in a scene beforehand;and we determine the rotation matrix by a system of linear equations based on Cayley transformation. Experimental results of reconstructing indoor and outdoor scenes show that our scene registration method is feasible.

Wide baseline stereo correspondence has become a challenging and attractive problem in computervision and its related applications. Getting high correct ratio initial matches is a very important step of general wide baseline stereo correspondence algorithm. Ferrari et al. suggested a voting scheme called topological filter in [3] to discard mismatches from initial matches, but they didn't give theoretical analysis of their method. Furthermore, the parameter of their scheme was uncertain. In this paper, we improved Ferraris' method based on our theoretical analysis, and presented a novel scheme called topologically clustering to discard mismatches. The proposed method has been tested using many famous wide baseline image pairs and the experimental results showed that the developed method can efficiently extract high correct ratio matches from low correct ratio initial matches for wide baseline image pairs.

Robust and efficient foreground segmentation is a crucial topic in many computervision applications. In this paper, we propose an improved method of foreground segmentation with the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) for video surveillance. The number of mixture components of GMM is estimated according to the frequency of pixel value changes, the performance of GMM can be effectively enhanced with the modified background learning and update, new Gaussian distribution generation rule and shadow detection. In order to improve the efficiency, illumination assessment is used to decide whether there are shadows in the given image. Shadow suppression will be adopted based on morphological reconstruction. Besides, the detection of sudden illumination change and background updating are also presented. Results obtained with different real-world scenarios show the robustness and efficiency of the approach.
We have developed a binary pattern matching system for the recognition of segmented logos and icons corrupted by random and correlated noise. It is based on the POLCAR transform. The POLCAR transform is invariant to p...

Linear complementarity problems (LCPs) have for many years been used in physics-based animation to model contact forces between rigid bodies in contact. More recently, LCPs have found their way into the realm of fluid dynamics. Here, LCPs are used to model boundary conditions with fluid-wall contacts. LCPs have also started to appear in deformable models and granular simulations. There is an increasing need for numerical methods to solve the resulting LCPs with all these new applications. This book provides a numerical foundation for such methods, especially suited for use in computer graphics. This book is mainly intended for a researcher/Ph.D. student/post-doc/professor who wants to study the algorithms and do more work/research in this area. Programmers might have to invest some time brushing up on math skills, for this we refer to Appendices A and B. The reader should be familiar with linear algebra and differential calculus. We provide pseudo code for all the numerical methods, which should be comprehensible by any computer scientist with rudimentary programming skills. The reader can find an online supplementary code repository, containing Matlab implementations of many of the core methods covered in these notes, as well as a few Python implementations [Erleben, 2011].
