this paper deals with the behavioural modelling of a multi-MW PV/Diesel hybrid power plant based on long term monitoring over years. the approach is based on the analysis of production data correlated with solar resources and fuel consumption. the links between PV power and irradiance at different points of energy conversion chain up to the AC point of common coupling are carried out. the adopted methodology is to proceed to a formulation of the behavioural model of PV production considering trends and statistics observations. the first step was data classification targeting causalities and consequences of main disturbances. the second step validates the established models with operating data. the aim is to provide relevant set for scenarios simulation that allows optimal design and energy management for such hybrid plant. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Participative approaches are often viewed as an interesting way to promote the links between local and regional levels necessary to policy decentralization. Among those, the companion modelling (ComMod) approach aims at developing collective learning and at supporting decision making process by eliciting the different perceptions of a complex situation and by collectively exploring possible futures. this participative modelling and simulation approach has historically been developed and experimented at local level. But as many participative approaches, it has rapidly been confronted with the questions raised by the necessary inclusion of larger scale of decision. For instance, to which extend is it possible to transfer the collective knowledge developed to non-participants, or how to associate different types of stakeholders such as regulators? this institutionalisation of the approach implies up-scaling processes (transfer of the approach to higher decision levels), as well as out-scaling processes (dissemination of the approach and outputs to actors of the same level than the participants). When considering the link between human and environment processes, it is now widely acknowledged that scales are social and political construct and that the organisation in level of the society is subjective. Furthermore, the perception of the dimensions to be accounted for varies from one actor to the other. thus, according to the participation strategy, the issue definition, the representation process, the tools legitimacy and the mode of integration and comprehension of knowledge may differ. this paper presents and discusses methodological strategies that have been tested in 14 experiences to institutionalise the ComMod approach. Efficient sustainable mushroom production is dependent on a consistent production of compost that needs to be of a high quality. Unwanted mites and soil fungi, especially Trichoderma species, can reduce yields so it is important to be able to manage this situation. the relationship between mites, fungi and mushroom yields are complex and a Bayesian Belief Network (Norsys Pty Ltd) (BBN) was used to try to resolve these complexities. Two BBN (Figure 1) models were developed using published information on the main species of mites, Trichoderma. Two independent datasets were used: 1. Data from growing experiments;and 2. Data from farm surveys [GRAPHICS] A sensitivity analysis module from the BBN software was used to determine the relative importance of each of the 14 BBN nodes in relation to healthy yields (Healthy_Yield) and spotted mush (Spotted_mush). Results for Healty_Yield were similar for the two datasets (growing experiments and farm surveys);the six nodes (Spotted_mush, Trich_on_casing, Total_yield, Casing, th1_4_CS, th1_4_CP) accounted for 85% of the variance in Healthy_Yield for the growing experiment data and 55% of the variance for the farm survey data. the results for Spotted_mush were similar for the two datasets;the six nodes (Healthy_Yield, Trich_on_casing, Total_Yield, Casing, th1_4_CS, th1_4_CP) accounted for 89% of the variance in Healthy_Yield and the same six nodes accounted for 68% of the variance in Spotted_mush. Both Spotted_mush and Trich_on_casing reflect how well the Trichoderma species were established. the results are discussed in relation to pest and disease management in the Australian mushroom industry.

Lakes Keilambete, Gnotuk and Bullenmerri are lakes in Western Victoria that are highly regarded for their ecological, social and scientific values. these are maar lakes (lakes in shallow craters of volcanic tuff) and are recognized as being of National (Gnotuk) and International Significance (Keilambete, Bullenmerri). As closed lakes, they have no streams coming in or out, and are predominantly controlled by rainfall and evaporation at the water's surface. these crater lakes are very sensitive to climate change and have been used to diagnose past changes in climate. Previous research has shown that the lakes have been falling since the mid 1800s and that the likely cause was a decrease in rainfall and increase in evaporation of natural origin. Recent rainfall decreases have increased the rate of lake level decline. With the prospect of future climate change further altering regional rainfall and evaporation, this study assesses the potential impact of climate change due to enhanced greenhouse gas on future lake levels at these lakes. Lake levels (similar to 1880-2100) are constructed using the lake water balance model of Jones et al. (2001). this model is quite robust in modelling historical lake levels, and has been used for simulating climatic conditions reproducing lake levels for the past 16,000 years. Time series of monthly climate data were obtained from 14 global climate model simulations contained in the database used in the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report (IPCC, 2007). For the future, these GCM simulations were forced by the A1B and A2 greenhouse gas and sulphate aerosol emission scenarios. the use of multiple GCMs and different future emission scenarios, result in scenarios that represent the range of likely outcomes of regional climate under enhanced greenhouse conditions to 2100. the results suggest that all lake levels will continue to fall, with the declines for Bullenmerri expected to be larger than those for the other two lakes. the decline was initi

Forest management, fire and climate change can have profound and lasting effects on catchment water balances and water yields. this is because significant changes in the growth and structure of forests can lead to changes in evaporation, rainfall interception and transpiration, and in resulting streamflow. Process-based models that incorporate the major environmental influences on the growth and water use of forests and vegetation, and on the consequential effects on streamflow, allow us to explore the likely effects of the change in forest structure on resulting catchment water balances. Results from these models are being used, to underpin the development of water and forest management strategies and policies. In this paper we describe and discuss the application of two catchment-scale process-based models, their assumptions and limitations, and provide some guidance for the further development and future application of these models. Macaque, a process-based model, was used to develop models for several forested catchments that supply water to Melbourne. they were used to investigate the likely effects of various bushfire scenarios and climate change projections on catchment water balances. A limitation of this approach is the absence of a growth module that allows for the effects of climate and edaphic factors on the development of forests. the model uses a set of empirical functions that describe the time course of leaf area index (LAI) for a range of forest types. Changes in the LAI can have relatively large effects on resulting evapotranspiration (ET) and streamflow. Adjustments in the LAI empirical functions based on field measurements led to a decrease in mean catchment average LAI by nearly 14%, with a consequential decrease in ET of over 6%, and an increase in streamflow of over 18%. this highlights the value in collecting LAI data for model parameterisation. the phenomenon of apparent slip in micro-channel flows is analyzed by means of a two-phase mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann model with non-ideal fluid-fluid and fluid-wall interactions. Analytical solutions of the weakly inhomogeneous hydrodynamic limit of this model are successfully compared with numerical simulations and show that the present mesoscopic approach is capable of filling the gap between the atomistic size of the interaction potential and the millimetric size of the slip length reported in microflow experiments. In the critical interplay between fluid-fluid and fluid-wall interactions, our approach indicates an exponential inflation of the slip length as a function of the ratio of potential to thermal energy.
