In this work we conduct a comparative study on different data compression methods applied to high resolution images of the solar surface acquired at the Solar Dunn Telescope in Sacramento Peak with the IBIS (Interferometric Bidimensional Spectrometer) instrument. Our aim is to perform an estimation of the quality, efficiency and workload of the considered computing techniques both in the so-called lossless modality, where in the reconstruction phase there is no loss of information, and in lossy mode, where it should be possible to reach a high compression ratio at the expense of image information. In the latter case we quantify the quality with image analysis conventional methods and more specifically with the reconstruction of physical parameters through standard procedures used in this kind of observations. The considered methods constitute the most frequently adopted image compression procedures in a variety of fields of application;they exploit in different ways the properties of the Discrete Wavelet Transforms often coupled with standard entropy coders or similar coding.procedures applied to the different bit planes in order to allow a progressive handling of the original image. In the lossless approach we found that all methods give a compression ratio around 2. For a lossy compression we reached a compression ratio of 8 (equivalent to a 2 bit per pixel) without any perceptual difference between original and reconstructed images, but with effects on the photometric accuracy. We also tested the performance of 3-D lossy methods for the compression of data-cubes. Maintaining the same data degradation level, those methods allows us to gain a 2x in the compression ratio over the 2-D methods.

Consider an image that has been encrypted uncompressed. The data compression algorithms are ineffective because the encryption masks the source. To reduce the size, distributed source coding.technique is used without requiring the data be compressed prior to encryption. Under some reasonable condition, neither the security nor the compression efficiency will be sacrificed by performing compression in the encrypted domain. The design and analysis of a practical lossless image codec, where the image data undergoes stream-cipher based encryption before compression. An efficient way to compress encrypted images is through Resolution-progressive compression (RPC), where RPC can be used for both interframe and intraframe correlation. Lossless compression of encrypted sources can be achieved through Slepian-Wolf coding. This work proposes a resolution progressive compression scheme which compresses an encrypted image progressively in resolution, such that the decoder can observe a low-resolution version of the image as well as video, study local statistics based on it, and use the statistics to decode the next resolution level. The system is implemented by using Mat lab. © 2011 IEEE.

Currently information security is becoming more important in data storage and transmission. images are broadly used in several processes. Therefore, the protection of image data from unauthorized access is essential. image encryption plays a major role in the field of information hiding. The objective of this paper is to provide an efficient coding.technique for compress the encrypted gray scale images without any loss. This is made possible by using Huffman coding. This paper uses resolution-progressive compression (RPC) technique to achieve better result. RPC compresses an encrypted image progressively in resolution, such that the decoder can observe a low-resolution version of the image, study local statistics based on it, and use the statistics to decode the next resolution level. The experimental results show that the method used in this paper for compression gives good result. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.

Arithmetic coding.is prevalent in compression for its remarkable performance, and it is also explored to design encryption schemes offering compression and secrecy simultaneously. Joint compression and encryption is a quite efficient and practical way to protect large volume of data, especially multimedia data, and numerous cryptosystem based on arithmetic coding.have been proposed in recent years. In this paper, we present a new classification of secure arithmetic coding.algorithms according to the selection of secret information. Then we analyze the security of encryption schemes based on interval swapping. We propose a simple yet efficient attack that could disclose the keystream that is used to make interval swapping decision. The attack works in static and content-based models of arithmetic coding.

In this article, we proposed a selective partial image encryption scheme of Secure JPEG2000 (JPSEC) for digital cinema or any other JPEG2000-based applications. It makes a scalable encryption scheme possible on the basis of a trade-off relationship between the encryption effect and the encryption cost. The encryption scheme was designed to activate during the image compression process, which is between quantization and entropy coding. Three data selection schemes were involved to select the parts of data to be encrypted: subband selection, data bit selection, and random selection of coefficients. The experimental results with over 3000 test images revealed that the PSNRs were between about 9.5 to 7.5 dB when the portion of the encrypted data by this scheme was between 1/4096 and 1/256. As the encryption effect is reasonably high with very low cost, the proposed scheme has high potential to provide secure communications in a variety of wired/wireless scenarios. In this paper, we investigate the problem of efficient image data encryption and compression. Based on feedforward-feedback nonlinear dynamic filter (FFNDF) and employing random arithmetic coding. a novel image encryption scheme integrated with the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) has been proposed. The FFNDF is employed to generate pseudorandom sequences which determine the mapping the interval position in the process of arithmetic coding. By encoding.the bits obtained from different passes in the SPIHT algorithm with adaptive random arithmetic coding. we obtain a flexible secure image compression coding.scheme. Also, the scheme accommodates features of progressive coding.of the SPIHT. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the scheme has good cryptographic security and perceptual security, and it does not affect the compression efficiency apparently. The efficiency and security of the encryption scheme makes it an ideal choice in various applications such as total encryption, selective encryption, conditional access. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we proposed a highly enhanced compression scheme of the integral imaging (InIm) applying to the residual image (RI) array transformed from Sub-image Array (SIA). In the pickup process, the object through the virtual pinhole array is recorded in a computer as Elemental image Array (EIA). Then, SIA is generated from EIA. It provides enhanced compression efficiency by improving the similarity between sub-images (SIs). In the proposed scheme, the reference image is the first one of rearranged SIs based on spiral scanning topology and the RIs are generated from difference between reference image and SIs. Finally, we model the reference image and RIs in InIm as consecutive frames in a moving picture. Therefore, the video compression scheme such as MPEG-4 can be applied to data reduction of the consecutive frames. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the image quality of MPEG-4 and JPEG with the same compression rate. Some experiment is carried out and compression efficiency of the proposed scheme has been improved 296.02% in average according to the each quality factor.

The Complex Ambiguity Function (CAF) used in emitter location measurement is a 2-dimensional complex-valued function of time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) and frequency-difference-of-arrival (FDOA). In classical TDOA/FDOA systems, pairs of sensors share data (using compression) to compute the CAF, which is then used to estimate the TDOA/FDOA for each pair;the sets of TDOA/FDOA measurements are then transmitted to a common site where they are fused into an emitter location. However, in some recently published methods for improved emitter location methods, it has been proposed that after each pair of sensors computes the CAF it is the entire CAFs that should be shared rather than the extracted TDOA/FDOA estimates. This leads to a need for methods to compress the CAFs. Because a CAF is a 2-D functions it can be thought of as a form of image - albeit, a complex-valued image. We apply and appropriately modify the Embedded Zerotree Wavelet (EZW) to compress the Ambiguity Function. Several techniques are analyzed to exploit the correlation between the imaginary part and real part of Ambiguity Function and comparisons are made between the approaches. The impact of such compression on the overall location accuracy is assessed via simulations.
