As revenues from voice services continue to fall, telecommunication operators have begun to develop and acquire new services in an attempt to generate new revenue streams and to avoid losing customers to third party service providers. One such service that many, if not all, operators are investigating is Internet Protocol Television (IPTv). IPTv provides broadcast television channels as well as video on Demand (voD) content to subscribers, delivering the video content using the Internet Protocol (IP). The UCT Advanced IPTvv2.0 system is an open source implementation of an IPTv system based on ETSI TISPAN standards. The proposed system also incorporates multimediacontent adaptation methods in order to adapt video to meet varying client terminal devices and access network characteristics. This paper describes the history of the project followed by the relevant ETSI TISPAN standards. It then goes on to discuss the software architecture of the developed system and provides results of several transcoding tests.

This paper presents the analysis of emerging data exchange technologies used for integration of mobiledevices to image-based learning process of second language. Particularly, the design of portable personal spaces providing mobileaccess to multimedia documents based on XML technologies and creation of generic interfaces for learning environments have been carried out. For image-based languages learning that implies the image processing, recognition, and retrieval two segment turning function has been proposed and analyzed for possible adoption in applications assisted by mobiledevices. The evaluation of designed prototype of image-based language learning system for interpretation of Japanese kanji and Mayan glyphs on mobiledevices is discussed in this paper. Additionally the performance of proposed approaches used in content-based image retrieval is evaluated for their possible integration within mobile learning environments.

mobiledevices have made the world a small place. They are also being used widely, to access the Web. However, because most available web pages are designed for desktop PC in mind, it is inconvenient to browse these large web pages on a mobile device with a small screen. With the enormous increase in mobile users since last decade, to such an extent that it even exceeds the number of desktop users in many developing countries, it becomes crucial to design systems for Web Manipulation, there by providing easier and greater accessibility and device independence. In this paper, we propose a new browsing technique to facilitate efficient web access and provide a better user experience on a device with rather small screen as compared to the usual desktop. It also proposes a novel technique to handle multimediacontent, especially the images and video on a web page. In order to solve the problem of incomplete tags in HTML, an equivalent XML is generated for the desired webpage. For efficient browsing, the web page is represented as a multi level hierarchy, with the index of major sections on the first level and the sections indexed again in to sub-sections on the second level and so on, until we reach sub-sections that can be represented as sub-pages that fit in the small screen. We also propose an efficient algorithm for navigating through the sub-pages, thereby providing better user experience. The proposed technique provides better and efficient web browsing on mobile small displays up to user satisfaction. Copyright 2007 ACM.

In this paper, the author describes the design and implementation of a LDNA (Digtal Living Network Alliance) Framework for Handheld devices. DLNA has developed guidelines for interoperability among home devices enabling a multitude of usage scenarios for sharing digital content such as A v (Audio visual), Photo, and Audio. The proposed DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) Client Framework handles multiple services like video and multimedia services in Smart Home networks simultaneously. With this new DLNA framework, the home users can choose various services dynamically and use them with out any complicated pre-configuration with the Home IMS gateway (HIGA). The framework provides smooth data transfer switching in home network between Cellular and Wi-fi/Bluetooth networks to enhance mobility based on user/application preferences. The DLNA Framework also provides QoS measurement and monitoring functionality for multimedia services, which enables users to benefit from high throughput and maintains session continuity during selection of different access networks. Apart from these features, the DLNA Framework provides access to device access protocols like UPnP to facilitate the management of home devices.

Our design is based on the Embedded ATM access Point that uses secure software architecture with v2olP stack to facilitate the usage and creation of a multitude of new services. Dynamic and Adaptive Context-Sensitive GUI with animated icons form the trend for the next generation of compact ubiquitous devices that proliferate the home network and public environment.
