In this paper, we evaluate the use of a rank-score diversity measure for selecting sensory fission operations for a robot localization and mapping application. Our current application involves robot mapping and navigation in art outdoor urban search and rescue situation in which we have many similar and mutually occluding landmarks. The robot is a 4-wheel direct drive platform equipped with visual, stereo depth and ultrasound sensors. In such an application it's difficult to make useful and realistic assumptions about the sensor or environment statistics. Combinatorial fusion Analysis(CFA) is used to develop an approach to fission with unknown sensor and environment statistics. A metric is proposed that will indicate when fission from a set of fission alternatives will produce a more accurate estimation of depth than either sonar or stereo alone and when not. Experimental results are reported to illustrate that two CFA criteria are viable predictors to distinguish between positive fission cases (the combined system performs better than or equal to the individual systems) and negative cases.

This paper proposes an innovative data-fusion/ data-mining game theoretic situation awareness and impact assessment approach for cyber network defense. Alerts generated by Intrusion Detection Sensors (IDSs) or Intrusion Prevention Sensors (IPSs) are fed into the data refinement (Level 0) and object assessment (L1) data fusion components. High-level situation/threat assessment (L2/L3) data fusion based on Markov game model and Hierarchical Entity Aggregation (HEA) are proposed to refine the primitive prediction generated by adaptive feature/pattern recognition and capture new unknown features. A Markov (Stochastic) game method is used to estimate the belief of each possible cyber attack pattern. Game theory captures the nature of cyber conflicts: determination of the attacking-force strategies is tightly coupled to determination of the defense-force strategies and vice versa. Also, Markov game theory deals with uncertainty and incompleteness of available information. A software tool is developed to demonstrate the performance of the high level information fusion for cyber network defense situation and a simulation example shows the enhanced understating of cyber-network defense.

We propose a contrast enhanced fusion (CEF) method for merging infrared and color visible images. The CEF method can be carried out in two ways: the standard CEF method and the fast CEF method. The standard method transforms the original RGB color visible image into a linear luminance-chrominance color space in order to treat the achromatic and chromatic components separately. The achromatic component and infrared image are combined by a grayscale fusion scheme, and the original achromatic component is replaced by the grayscale fused image. Before the data are retransformed back into the RGB color space, the means and variances between the original achromatic component and the grayscale fused image are matched by a linear luminance remapping. The remapping procedure can fairly enhance the contrast of the final color fused image. The standard CEF method can be implemented efficiently by the fast CEF method that has the same fusion performance as the standard approach but manipulates images directly in RGB color space. We used the proposed method to merge long wave infrared and color TV images. The experimental results show that the CEF method can effectively produce a high-contrast color fused image with similar natural color characteristics as the original color visible image. In addition, we have also illustrated that the hybrid simple and complex CEF methods can be applied as a region of interest (ROI) image fusion solution, which allows ROIs to be fused with better quality than the rest of the original images.

In this paper, a new family of approaches to fuse inconsistent knowledge sources is introduced in a standard logical setting. They combine two preference criteria to arbitrate between conflicting information: the minimization of falsified formulas and the minimization of the number of the different atoms that are involved in those formulas. Although these criteria exhibit a syntactical flavor, the approaches are semantically-defined.

A fusion approach in a query based information system is presented. The system is designed for querying multimedia data bases, and here applied to target recognition using heterogeneous data sources. The recognition process is coarse-to-fine, with an initial attribute estimation step and a following matching step. Several sensor types and algorithms are involved in each of these two steps. An independence of the matching results, on the origin of the estimation results, is observed. It allows for distribution of data between algorithms in an intermediate fusion step, without risk of data incest. This increases the overall chance of recognising the target. An implementation of the system is described.

This paper presents the progress of an ongoing research effort in multisource information fusion for biodefense decision support. The effort concentrates on a novel machine-intelligence hybrid-of-hybrids decision support architecture termed FLASH (fusion, Learning, Adaptive Super-Hybrid) we proposed. The highlights of FLASH discussed in the paper include its cognitive-processing orientation and the hybrid nature involving heterogeneous multiclassifier machine learning and approximate reasoning paradigms. Selected specifics of the FLASH internals, such as its feature selection techniques, supervised learning, clustering, recognition and reasoning methods, and their integration, are discussed. The results to date are presented, including the background type determination and bioattack detection computational experiments using data obtained with a multisensor.fusion testbed we have also developed. The processing of imprecise information originating from sources other than sensors is considered. Finally, the paper discusses applicability of FLASH and its methods to complex battlespace management problems such as course-of-action decision support.

In this paper, we present a novel ICA domain multimodal image fusion algorithm. Conventional eigenbased algorithm was improved through weighting the transformed regions of input images and the use of a fusion metric to maximise the quality of the fused image. It is confirmed by experimental results that the proposed methods outperform the basic eigenbased methods and, in most cases, our own prior work on the DT-CWT method. For all the standard image fusion metrics, the proposed method obtains higher quality values than the standard eigenbased algorithms.

in this paper, a novel image fusion method based on the finite ridgelet transform(FRIT). Firstly, the problem that wavelet transform could not efficiently represent the singularity of linear/curve in image processing is analyzed. Secondly, the principal of FRIT and its good performance in expressing the singularity of two or higher dimensional are studied. Finally, the feasibility of image fusion using FRIT is discussed in detail. A new fusion method based on FRIT and the fusion framework are proposed. The transform coefficients structure and the fusion procedure are given in detail in this paper. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm works better in preserving the edge and texture information than the wavelet transform method and the Laplacian pyramid methods do in image fusion.
