Aiming at improving the performance of relay transmission in multi-flow streaming overlay networks, a performance evaluation model to optimize the global weighted average latency was proposed. this model supports multiple senders and multiple receivers. A distributed heuristic allocation algorithm was proposed to optimize the transmission performance. In this algorithm, the bottleneck bandwidth shared by multiple flows is allocated based on the path weighted average latency which is computed between any pair of nodes in the network Source node uses a two stages feedback pattern to allocate the outgoing flow to multiple available paths. Simulation results show that there is linear dependence between the weighted average latency and the data slip hit ratio which is a metric of streaming network performance, the heuristic allocation algorithm can effectively lower the network overall transmission latency and can effectively adjust the traffic allocation. It gets 4%-17% lower in the network overall weighted average latency comparing with that of the pattern of average allocation shared bottle bandwidth.

In this paper, we propose a demand-driven virtual disk (VD) prefetch mechanism-DPM to improve the performance of virtual machine (VM) at destination site for mobile personal computing environments. DPM uses an optimized COW (Copy-on-Write) virtual block device to split the traditional one-piece large-sized VD image into multiple small-sized SVDs (Software Virtual Disk) at a basic granularity of a single kind of software. Based on the fine-grained VD splitting, DPM uses an access frequency and priority-based prefetch target identifying-APTI algorithm to identify the SVDs of the being-used software by the user in real-time mode at destination site, and prefetches those SVDs by utilizing P2P transportation mechanism at background. We have built a prototype to realize DPM on Xen virtual machine monitor (VMM). Experiments on the prototype show that DPM can effectively improve the VM performance at an unexpected destination site without any cached VD state, supporting agile mobility of personal computing environments.

Traditional network configuration managements for users' QoS can achieve well performance to some extent, but all of them could not be applied to the next generation network (NGN) directly, such as integrated services (Misery) and differentiated services (Diffserv) typically. To solve this issue, we propose a framework of dynamic QoS self-configuration (FDQS) in this paper. Utility function and interruption mechanism are integrated into FDQS where utility function is utilized to express the priorities of users' QoS and interruption mechanism to dynamically correct those priorities during transmission of data packets. Simulation results show that the proposed FDQS holds the same QoS level with Diffserv in well network state, however when network congestion happens, the level of QoS of FDQS is higher than Diffserv almost by 10%.

Map Reduce has become a popular paradigm for parallel data processing, both for ad-hoc schema-less processing using a simple functional interface, and as a building block for higher-level abstractions. Much subsequent work has layered additional functionality on top of MapReduce or similar infrastructures, building powerful software stacks for distributed applications. In this paper, we present Cogset, the result of re-thinking the original MapReduce architecture that sits at the bottom of the stack. We observe that the traditional loose coupling between the distributed file system and the MapReduce processing engine leads to poor data locality for many applications. Accordingly, Cogset offers both reliable storage and parallel data processing, fusing the two components into a single system that ensures good data locality We also take a new approach to data shuffling, relying on highly efficient static routing, and devise new mechanisms for fault tolerance, load balancing and ensuring consistency. We evaluate Cogset using a suite of benchmark applications, comparing it to Hadoop with very favorable results. For example, on a 12-node cluster, an inverted index that takes 80 minutes to build using Hadoop can be constructed using Cogset in less than 35 minutes.

the opportunistic computing paradigm is extremely valuable to modern technical and scientific endeavors, as it can support the demand for large and steady amounts of computing capacity. the applications of opportunistic computing environments often require independent and intensive processing over different data sets, characterizing themselves as BoT applications. Opportunistic computing systems, however, usually employ centralized approaches to do task allocation, a problematic situation on sizable settings. this paper proposes and evaluates a peer-to-peer technique that allows the self-scheduling of tasks without any central controller whatsoever, aiming at opportunistic computing scenarios running BoT applications. Its key is to employ range query capabilities of search overlays like Skip Graphs as an infrastructure for fully distributed allocation decisions. Experimental results obtained in a message-passing simulator consisting of 5,000 nodes and 75,000 tasks show that central points of failure were eliminated and communication bottlenecks were highly alleviated, subject to some congestion characteristics of the search overlay.

Survivability becomes an important issue in optical networks due to the huge bandwidth offered by optical technology. Many works have studied network survivability. the majority of these works are typically destined to single-domain. In this work we address the survivability in multidomain optical networks. this paper provides a classification of the existing protection solutions proposed for multi-domain networks and analyses their advantages and limitations. We propose a new solution for multi-domain optical networks based on p-cycles. For scalability and security reasons, we also propose a topology aggregation model adapted to the p-cycles computation. this aggregation model allows our proposed solution to find a trade-off between two competing goals: efficient use of backup resources and small running time. Simulation results show that the proposed solution is a good trade-off between resource utilization and running time compared to the existing solutions.

For the last few years, there has been a large volume of research on Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system, resulting in many hybrid P2P models. this model is important to keep a high available SP because all P2P overlay traffic will be routed via the SP. Main purpose of this paper is to improve SP's availability for OPs so that the system selects the peer with the potential to go the longest without needing replacement. In order to achieve the goal, we study a peer's availability prediction based on analysis of SP's characteristics and past behavior. Based on these, we propose various replacement policies and evaluate them through experiments. this paper can improve the resilience of the system by improving the availability of SPs selected by OPs. Second, we analyze inherent SP's characteristics and its past behavior and discuss which factors affect the performance of the system. Finally, we show that predicted residual lifetime can help us understand the benefits of replacement policies.

During the development of a distributed application, programmers usually involve many programs. these programs have different IP addresses and different ports. Sometimes, they even have a same port. For instance, in P2P environment, peers usually use the same port to communicate with each other. We often need tens of computers to develop such a distributed application. Unfortunately, not each one owns as many computers as the developing plan needs. Even if he has enough computers, it is difficult for him to manage these computers efficiently. We propose VirtualNet, a middleware, to solve this problem. When using this virtual network, users can start different programs or processes on it as if in a real distributed environment. Every application that runs on such middleware regards it running on an exclusive computer. Since all the applications are started by the middleware and run on the same computer, it is easy to control them and collect logs for debugging. Moreover, after being tested in such a virtual network and running through the TCP/IP stack, the applications can be immediately deployed in a real environment without any modifications.

this article describes a design and features of a multi-core unit for performing computing operations required for artificial neural network functioning. Its purpose is to speed up computing operations of the neural network. the number of computing cores can be altered as needed to achieve the required performance. VHDL language has been used to build this module. It has been optimized for the Spartan-3 family FPGA chips from Xilinx. these chips are favorable because of their low price and a high number of on-chip multipliers and block memory units. Spartan-3 chips facilitate parallel computing operations within neural networks to a very high level and thus help to achieve high computing power.

In distributed cluster computing system, high performance network communication between nodes is significant. Performance-Based Path Selection (PBPS) can use different feature and performance of each network of parallel networks in cluster to achieve optimal communication efficiency. In this paper, we improve TCP and increase its function to realize PBPS for cluster communication, because of its wide application and the record of Round Trip Time that can be used for PBPS. these improvements will have better performance when there is a great deal of communication.
