SC and OFDM hybrid coherent optical transmission scheme based on 1-bit bandpass delta-sigma modulation

High -order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) can effectively improve the capacity and spectral efficiency of coherent optical transmission systems. However, as the modulation order increases, the signal becomes less tolerant to noise and nonlinear effects during transmission, and the implementation cost also increases. We propose a single carrier (SC) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) hybrid coherent optical transmission scheme based on a 1 -bit bandpass (BP) delta -sigma modulation (DSM). The driving I -channel and Q -channel signals for the optical in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) modulator carry SC -modulated and OFDM-modulated transmitter data, respectively. optical quadrature-phase-shift-keying (QPSK) modulation is realized by the 1 -bit DSM quantizer and I/Q modulator, which can effectively suppress quantization noise and reduce the complexity of digital signal processing (DSP) and the performance requirements of optoelectronic devices. In addition, the hybrid transmission of SC and OFDM can balance the advantages of both to meet the variable channel conditions and complex application scenarios. High-fidelity transmission of SC 512QAM and OFDM 512QAM hybrid signals, in the form of a 60 Gbaud optical QPSK signal, over 60 km single -mode fiber -28 (SMF-28) is verified by offline experiments, and the bit error rates (BERs) of both SC 512QAM and OFDM 512QAM are below the hard -decision forward -error correction (HD-FEC) threshold of 3.8e-3. The deceleration of Moore's Law has led to increasing difficulties in advancing the computational speed and power efficiency of Complementary -Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) chips. As a solution to this challenge, optical computing emerges as a promising technology, boasting low energy consumption, high processing speed, and extensive bandwidth. Yet, a critical obstacle remains: the absence of a co simulation platform that incorporates both photonic chips and peripheral electrical circuits. This paper addresses this gap by introducing a hybrid optoelectronic computing evaluation and deployment platform utilizing Simulink tools. Based on the measured data from the silicon optical computing chip, we have deployed an image filtering algorithm and a convolutional neural network onto this platform. The optical computing chip achieves an accuracy of 86.4% on the imageNet image dataset. Through evaluation, we have identified the most substantial impacts on calculation results. To achieve an image classification accuracy of 80%, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the low -speed DAC must be a minimum of 52 dB. These findings provide crucial insights into the optimization of optical computing systems.

With the rapid development of the internet and information technology, the traditional encryption methods suffer from drawbacks such as poor processing capacity and low security, making them vulnerable to attacks. This paper presents a hybrid encryption algorithm that combines the Lorenz chaotic system and the generalized Arnold transform to enhance information security and confidentiality in digital images. The proposed quantum encryption scheme involves two stages: interfering with pixel coordinate information and grayscale values using the generalized Arnold transform, followed by spatial domain scrambling of pixel positions using the Lorenz chaotic system. MATLAB simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm in achieving the desired confusion and diffusion of pixel values, making it a superior encryption method for cryptography. © 2025 SPIE.

With the diversification of reconnaissance equipment and methods in the military field, optical stealth technology has become a hot spot in military research under the operational needs of optoelectronic confrontation. An improved self-adaptive visible light and infrared waveband stealth algorithm is proposed here, and its effectiveness under photoelectric confrontation is evaluated. The current digital camouflage design method is mainly through background color mixing, image segmentation, spot combination, etc. It has the defects of smooth and clear edge contour, fixed color/texture scene, and cannot adapt to complex texture background or multiple types of scenes. An improved digital camouflage design method based on fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) image processing technology is proposed to obtain the color characteristics of the background image. Then, the color block types of the camouflage spots are acquired to reduce the loss of texture information of the background image caused by clustering or segmentation to avoid the phenomenon of clear boundaries caused by single region segmentation. The results show that the use of adaptive optical stealth algorithms in the visible and infrared bands can reduce the probability of being discovered in optoelectronic countermeasures, thereby gaining a head start. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

提出一种新型的光电混合神经网络计算模型,通过非线性超表面对线性和非线性光波进行多维度光场调控,并行处理多个通道的信息。非线性超表面采用U型纳米天线,基于自旋和几何相位对基频和倍频光波的相位进行编码和复用,结合后端的浅层电子神经网络分别实现对手写数字图像输入的高精度分类(盲测准确率为95.53%)和高质量重建(平均峰值信噪比大于26 dB)。所提方法为发展光学、光电、电子模拟和数字计算技术提供了新思路,从而实现大规模并行、高通量和更广泛的人工智能系统。

In this paper, we propose the hybrid optical wireless communication system using a single light-emitting diode (LED) as a transmitter (Tx) as well as a photodiode and image sensor-based receivers (Rxs) for an indoor IoT environment. The proposed system utilizing a single LED offers simultaneously high- and low-speed transmission capabilities using visible light communication (VLC) and optical camera communication (OCC) links, respectively. The proposed scheme is intended to provide a versatile IoT environment by giving users the choice to switch between links based on device availability. By means of experimental implementation, we show that using a chip LED modulated with bipolar on-off keying modulation format and biased voltage levels improves signal transmission on both VLC and OCC links and thus the throughput of the system. Furthermore, we propose amplitude overlap A(OL) in the modulation format to improve the data throughput of VLC link. The results depict that error-free transmission is achieved for the VLC link at a data rate of up to 100 Mb/s which is double the 3-dB bandwidth of LED at A(OL) values of 0.3 and 0.5, and for the OCC link at a data rate of up to 2 kb/s at A(OL) values of 0 and 0.3.

Coherent technology inherent with more available degrees of freedom is deemed a competitive solution for next-generation ultra-high-speed short-reach optical interconnects. However, the fatal barriers to implementing the conventional coherent system in short-reach optical interconnect are the cost, footprint, and power consumption. Self-homodyne coherent system exhibits its potential to reduce the power consumption of the receiver-side digital signal processing (Rx-DSP) by delivering the local oscillator (LO) from the transmitter. However, an automatic polarization controller (APC) is inevitable in the remote LO link to avoid polarization fading, resulting in additional costs. To address the polarization fading issue, a simplified self-homodyne coherent system is proposed enabled by Alamouti coding in this paper. Benefiting from the Alamouti coding between two polarizations, a polarization-insensitive receiver only including a 3dB coupler, a 90° hybrid, and two balanced photodiodes (BPDs) is sufficient for reception. Meanwhile, the APC in the LO link is needless, simplifying the receiver structure significantly. Besides, the digital subcarrier multiplexing (DSCM) technique is also adopted to relax the computational complexity of the chromatic dispersion compensation (CDC), which is one of the dominant power consumption modules in Rx-DSP. The transmission performance of 50Gbaud 4-subcarrier 16/32QAM (4SC-16/32QAM) DSCM signal based on the proposed simplified self-homodyne coherent system is investigated experimentally. The results show that the bit-error-ratio (BER) performance degradation caused by CD can be solved by increasing 4 taps in the equalizer for 80km single mode fiber (SMF) transmission without individual CDC, which operates in a low-complexity manner. In order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and mitigate the damage of noise to the communication quality,an effective interference suppression algorithm,which is based on the improved density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise algorithms,is proposed for visible light communication systems using the complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor image sensor as the *** results show that the algorithm can learn the region where the payload data is located,filter out the noise data,and greatly decrease the *** effect of the algorithm is also studied through bit error ratio performance.

Nowadays, imaging and spectroscopy systems operating in the long-wavelength infrared range (LWIR) are rapidly developed and extensively applied in numerous demanding branches of science and technology. This pushes further developments into the realms of improving the sensitivity and performance of the LWIR systems, as well as reducing their dimensions and cost. Among modern LWIR technologies, uncooled shutterless bolometric matrices form a favorable platform for addressing these challenging problems, being technologically reliable, compact, and cost-effective. Nevertheless, such detectors features high noises and require real-time digital signal processing. In this work, consisted of two parts, we developed a portable LWIR camera, which relies on a commercial uncooled bolometric matrix, and proposed few approaches aimed at the image acquisition improvement. The first part describes algorithms for image calibration. These algorithms were implemented experimentally in a processing module relying on the Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and the high-speed double data rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM). The developed LWIR camera holds strong potential in such applications, as non-destructive sensing and medical imaging.
