Robust variants represent a promising method to enhance model robustness against adversarial attacks through exploring diverse neural network architectures. However, the significant computational demand of training multiple variants often restricts adversarial defense techniques to a narrow range of model architectures, thus failing to fully exploit the robustness benefits of architectural variations. In this paper, we first reveal that function-preserving knowledge transfer can significantly speed up adversarial training of different architecture variants. Then, we propose ROBIN, a framework for accelerating adversarially robust multi-variant training. By utilizing the architectural similarities among variants, ROBIN facilitates efficient weight transformation across models via two tensor-level atomic operations, hastening the convergence of multiple variants. Our experiments indicate that ROBIN can accelerate the adversarial training process of various architecture variants by 2.56 × to 4.27 ×, enabling efficient exploration of robust network architectures. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. We present a heuristic algorithm designed to solve Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (QUBO) problems efficiently. The algorithm, referred to as IC-D2S, leverages a hybrid approach using Ising and classical machines to address very large problem sizes. Considering the practical limitation on the size of the Ising machine (IM), our algorithm partitions the QUBO problem into a collection of QUBO subproblems (called subQUBOs) and utilizes the IM to solve each subQUBO. Our proposed heuristic algorithm uses a set of control parameters to generate the subQUBOs and explore the search space. Also, it utilizes an annealer based on cosine waveform and applies a mutation operator at each step of the search to diversify the solution space and facilitate the process of finding the global minimum of the problem. We have evaluated the effectiveness of our IC-D2S algorithm on three large-sized problem sets and compared its efficiency in finding the (near-)optimal solution with three QUBO solvers. One of the solvers is a software-based algorithm (D2TS), while the other one (D-Wave) employs a similar approach to ours, utilizing both classical and Ising machines. The results demonstrate that for large-sized problems (≥ 5000) the proposed algorithm identifies superior solutions. Additionally, for smaller-sized problems (= 2500), IC-D2S efficiently finds the optimal solution in a significantly faster manner. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. Read mapping is a critical bottleneck in genome sequence analysis, requiring costly approximate string matching to identify potential matches between reads and a reference genome. Pre-alignment filtering methods aim to mitigate this issue by filtering out unnecessary mapping locations, and implementing them with processing-in-memory (PIM) approaches offers potential benefits by offloading filtering from the computing unit. However, the sparse number of potential mapping locations for each read limits the utilization of PIM's parallel computing capabilities, thereby hindering the overlapping of filtering and sequence alignment to hide filtering latency overheads. In this paper, we propose a 3D NAND-based in-storage pre-alignment filtering approach. Leveraging the read depth property, we introduce a read-centric pre-alignment filtering method that enables parallel comparison of multiple reads. We co-design software and hardware for in-situ processing of read-centric pre-alignment filtering within the storage, capitalizing on 3D NAND Flash's approximate parallel search capability. When integrating with a representative read mapping accelerator, our design achieves an average 1.36x performance improvement with comparable energy consumption. Compared to the state-of-the-art (SOTA) PIM solution, our design results in 123.8x and 53.3x performance gain and energy efficiency improvement. © 2025 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Multilevel inverters are well recognized for producing high-quality switched waveforms with reduced harmonic distortion compared to other conventional inverters. Their ability is to generate more accurate output waveforms at lower switching frequencies without distortion and has led to increased interest in recent years. In this paper, a review of a commonly used multilevel inverter scenario is conducted, with a focus on the impact of sinusoidal switching angle-based on total harmonic distortion (THD). From the three primary topologies-diode-clamped, flying capacitor-clamped, and cascaded H -bridge, the cascaded H-bridge was selected due to its requirement for fewer components and benefits. An asymmetric configuration was chosen for the analysis, with both experimental and simulation studies conducted on output voltages up to seven levels using PSIM software. Proper switching angles were maintained throughout the study. The research demonstrates that higher-level multilevel inverters can be produced using fewer H-bridge cells while reducing harmonic distortion. Experimental results validate the simulation results, confirming the importance of the mentioned system.

Eye-tracking studies focused on art galleries and museums within the realm of Instagram, especially in the Indonesian context, are notably scant. This investigation elucidates the user interaction and experience of the art gallery’s Instagram account, @galerinasional. Employing a quantitative approach, we implemented eye-tracking experiments using the well-known online eye-tracking software RealEye. The study participants were followers of the National Gallery of Indonesia’s (Galnas) Instagram profile, seven women and three men, in two age brackets: 18–24 years (n = 5) and 25–34 years (n = 5). The experimental protocol required participants to execute five tasks centered on locating exhibition details and artwork on the Galnas Instagram platform, with a duration of 100 s allocated to each task. The Participant Quality Grade (PQG), examination duration, optimal browser dimensionality, K-factor mean, gaze and fixation frequencies, and heat maps were determined for the participants. The key findings are as follows. (1) The participants’ PQG scores were predominantly between 4 and 6. (2) Investigative browsing typically exceeded the 100-s limit. (3) The consensus on the ideal browser dimensions hovered around 1,368.6 × 814.8 px. (4) The K-factor mean across participants tended toward K > 0. (5) The average gaze occurrence was 27 items per second for most participants. (6) A noticeable disparity in fixation counts was observed between the two age groups, with individuals aged 25–34 demonstrating prolonged engagement with Galnas’ content. Personalized Federated Learning (PFL) has gained significant attention for its ability to handle heterogeneous data effectively. Parameter decoupling is a typical approach to PFL. It decouples the model into a feature extractor and a classifier head, where the feature extractor is trained collaboratively to learn a common representation and the classifier head is personalized for local data. Since local training only learns personalized feature information and ignores global information, the generalization ability of the feature extractor is limited. To improve the performance of the local model, a feasible approach is to make the local feature extractor more generalized. However, prior work requires the transmission of additional feature data beyond the transmission of model parameters, which leads to privacy leakage and higher communication overhead. To address these shortcomings, we propose a PFL algorithm with feature alignment via knowledge distillation, named PFAKD. PFAKD enhances the training of local feature extractors by explicitly aligning each sample’s local features with global features, providing more detailed guidance. Meanwhile, it avoids additional communication overhead and the risk of privacy leakage. We conduct extensive experiments in heterogeneous data scenarios. PFAKD outperforms other state-of-the-art methods by up to 4.35% in terms of model accuracy.
