This paper presents an exploratory study aimed at conceptualizing and testing a model to predict the influence of organizational and managerial factors on innovativeness in traditional micro and small enterprises (MSEs). Data was collected through in-depth interviews based on a structured survey with the owner/manager of 37 Peruvian MSEs in the furniture industry. The Partial Least Square (PLS) path analysis reveals that the organizational structure, the degree of a formal approach in the innovation processes, as well as the use of external linkages to acquire knowledge and ideas from other organizations, have a significant positive effect on firm innovativeness. By contrast, organizational culture, innovation strategy and customer involvement did not prove to be meaningful stimuli. This research contributes to increase the body of knowledge in the field of innovativeness in traditional low-tech MSEs, a topic that has been little explored in least developed countries like Peru, where this kind of firms are commonly the most important employment providers.

In this paper, an intensive research was made into the OPC technology and the OPC Data access specification, then the application of OPC communications in the supervisory system of marine electrical propulsion was proposed to achieve data exchange between the field control station and operator station. The OPC Server was used to collect the state and key parameters of the control system, and the OPC client communication program was realized in the Delphi7.0 IDE, thus completing the supervisory and management of entire marine electrical propulsion system. Experimental results showed that the client has improved considerably in timeliness and satisfied the requirements of ship electric propulsion supervisory system which was more flexible and extensible.

The disdrometer data on rain drop sizes, collected at Ahmedabad (India), has been analyzed to develop empirical model on drop-size distribution (DSD). Analyses has been carried out to find suitability of lognormal or gamma distribution. The lognormal distribution has been found to give better correlation. The data has been analysed on annual and monthly basis to find out seasonal variability. Statistical analysis on rate of rain fall was carried out on monthly and annual basis to derive rain rate exceedance characteristic. August appears to be worst month from the attenuation point of view.

To build a smart grid, a growing number of intelligent electrical devices are applied to the power system, causing the urgent use of embedded systems for electrical engineering education. In this paper, the authors combined the characteristics of electrical engineering courses with their teaching practice, aiming to explore a teaching program with the introduction of embedded software. By using PC as the hardware platform, the course involved the embedded operating system as an open-source software platform, and took the examples of the common functions of smart electrical equipment to explain the embedded operating system and programming concepts regarding its methods, bringing convenience for students in practice. Based on the curriculum, the program was able to synchronize with the embedded hardware instruction, and this facilitated the arrangement in the curriculum of electrical engineering.

For the existing problems in which the link of traditional manual generating paper in the education system, based on J2 EE technology, an open, multi-level intelligent automatic generating papers function was designed and implemented, by improving the algorithms of commonly used automatic generating paper. A breakthrough in the aspect of the design structure' randomness of computer generating papers was produced, and the problem of lacking the intelligent generating paper in the traditional manual generating paper methods was solved. This not only providing a great convenience for teachers, but also achieving information management between item pool and papers and the sharing of teaching resources. A distributed mobile system consists of a group of heterogeneous mobile devices connected by wireless network. Due to the fact that most of the mobile devices are battery based, the lifetime of a mobile system depends on both the battery behavior and the energy consumption characteristics of tasks. In this paper, we present a set of models for task scheduling in mobile systems equipped with Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) processors. We propose battery-aware algorithms to obtain task schedules satisfying the battery lifetime constraints. The simulations with randomly generated Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAG) show that our proposed algorithms generate better schedules that can satisfy the battery lifetime constraints.

In a grid workflows, fixed-time constraints are often set at some activities to guarantee that the corresponding activities and finally the overall workflow can be timely completed. At the run-time stage, activity completion durations can vary which may lead to the violations of some fixed-time constraints. Therefore, the workflow needs to be monitored at the run-time so that some temporal violations can be identified timely and consequently some exception handling actions can be taken in time. However, existing temporal verification strategies conduct some unnecessary computations and comparisons which impact the efficiency of overall temporal verification. To address this problem, we present a global-time-offsets based temporal verification approach. With our approach, the time cost for dynamic verification of the fixed-time constraints will be reduced. The experimental result further demonstrates that our approach is more efficient than others.
