During the last years, efforts to find more environmentally sound solutions have been getting stronger in business and production. Particularly, in developed countries sustainability has become a competitive factor for many manufacturing companies. However, for developing countries, which have started considering environmental problems as a new paradigm, there will be more challenges through less resource and experience. Rapid development and consequently high dependency on wide economic networks, force Malaysia, as one of the leading developing countries, to follow the global trends like sustainability. This paper helps illuminate the state of sustainability in Malaysia. The paper first discusses the issues and challenges that need to be addressed in the process of improving environmental performance in design and simultaneously considering social and economic concerns. In next part, it interprets the results of a qualitative study on furniture design teams in Klang Valley (the most developed state of Malaysia) considering their challenges of implementing sustainable design (SD) in practice. The findings of nineteen semi-structured interviews led to the conclusion that the major challenges contain: limited knowledge of SD principles among design teams, lack of awareness about sustainability among furniture buyers, lack of a clear vision for future progress of furniture industry in sustainability, lack of strategic thinking, and weakness in copyright law. Most of these problems have causal relationships to other challenges, which are discussed in conclusion section, and are caused by the fact that sustainability is still a new concept in Malaysia.

In this paper the design and development of microstrip disk resonator for measuring the amount of Napropamide in water is presented. Different type of disk resonator coated with poly pyrrol donated by single-wall carbon nanotubes is simulated using CST software. From simulation results, the resonant frequency of the disk resonator is changed form 7.4 GHz to 6.8 GHz after applying napropamide to the top of resonator. This technology has the capability to construct network sensor systems to measure the amount of napropamide in shielded environment in future research.

Recently, with global warming worsening, nations are working to develop new energies and technology applications to reduce pollutants and save energy to cope with climate changes and reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions. This paper discusses consumers' willingness to pay for portable hydrogen fuel cells using a contingent valuation method. The results are elaborated as follows. In terms of willingness to pay for portable hydrogen fuel cells, male respondents have higher willingness than females do. Additionally, respondents with a greater income have a higher willingness to pay;significant differences between various occupations were observed. The respondents with higher environmental attitudes and experience have a higher willingness to pay. Generally, consumers have a higher willingness to pay for portable hydrogen fuel cells that provide convenience, environmental protection, and long product life expectancy. The variables of consumers' 3C-related knowledge, interest, and attitudes correlate with their choices and demands of portable hydrogen fuel cells. The study author anticipates the results will provide a strategic reference for the government and relevant manufacturers to promote market competitiveness and product acceptance, stimulating green consumption and sustainable development.

With the rapid development of urbanization, the importance of city power grids safety has been gradually recognized. Given a full consideration for the characteristics of city power grids, we design a complete set of risk evaluation index system based on probability theory by employing risk theory and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in power system online static security risk assessment. Further, we have developed city grid online risk assessment software, and have provided a clear description of some key technologies of implementation and calculation process after installation. Finally, the test result shows the functionality and applicability of our software.

Real-time security monitoring is very important for large scale power systems. In the power systems with weak RTU coverage, state estimation software will not work, therefore real-time security monitoring is not possible. This paper deals with finding some practical and feasible solutions to make state estimator program available for large scale power systems with a very weak RTU coverage condition. Different aspects of state estimation such as topology extraction and observability problems are studied for Iran power system and a proposed methods to overcome the problems such as using transformer tap estimation, network model reduction and external model are presented.

With the research and debates on software process, the mainstream software processes can be grouped into two categories, the plan-driven (disciplined) processes and the agile processes. In terms of the classification, personal software process (PSP) is a typical plan-driven process while SCRUM is an agile-style instance. Although they are distinct from each other per se, our research found that PSP and SCRUM may also complement each other when SCRUM provides an agile process management framework, and PSP provides the skills and disciplines that a qualified team member needs to estimate, plan and manage his/her job. This paper proposes an integrated process model, SCRUM-PSP, which combines the strengths of each. We also verified that this integrated process by adopting it into a real project environment where typical agile processes are favored, i.e. change-prone requirements, rapid development, fast delivery, etc. As a result, manageability and predictability which traditional plan-driven processes usually benefit can also be achieved. The work described in this paper is a worthy attempt to embrace both process agility and discipline.

Product configuration based on a feature model in software product lines is the process of selecting the desired features based on customers' requirements. In most cases, application engineers focus on the functionalities of the target product during product configuration process whereas the quality attributes are handled until the final product is produced. However, it is costly to fix the problem if the quality attributes have not been considered in the product configuration stage. The key issue of assessing a quality attribute of a product configuration is to measure the impact on a quality attribute made by the set of functional variable features selected in a configuration. Current existing approaches have several limitations, such as no quantitative measurements provided or requiring existing valid products and heavy human effort for the assessment. To overcome theses limitations, we propose an Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) based approach to estimate the relative importance of each functional variable feature on a quality attribute. Based on the relative importance value of each functional variable feature on a quality attribute, the level of quality attributes of a product configuration in software product lines can be assessed. An illustrative example based on the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software product line is presented to demonstrate how the proposed approach works.

Effective software architecture evaluation methods are essential in today's system development for mission critical systems. We have previously developed MEMS and a set of test statistics for evaluating middlew are architectures, which proven an effective assessment of important quality attributes and their characterizations. We have observed it is common that many system performance response data are not of linear nature, where using linear modeling is not feasible in these scenarios for system performance predictions. To provide an alternative quantitative assessment on the system performance using actual runtime datasets, we developed a set of non-linear analysis procedure based on Case-based Reasoning (CBR), a machine learning method widely used in another disciplines of softwareengineering. Experiments were carried out based on actual runtime performance datasets. Results confirm that our non-linear analysis method CBR4MEMS produced accurate performance predictions and outperformed linear approaches. Our approach utilizing CBR to enable performance assessments on non-linear datasets, a major step forward to support software architecture evaluation.

Nowadays, commercial or in-house customized process management tools have been prevalently adopted for supporting software project management and process improvement. In this paper we report a case study to empirically investigate and evaluate the usage status and implications of a supporting tool named QONE in industrial environment in China. Decision theory is adopted in study design. The analysis is mainly based on the usage data from a typical industrial project. Further questionnaires and followup interviews with the end-users are also conducted. The analysis results reveal that 1) the effects of such supporting tool vary with respect to different task types;2) tasks with smaller granularity are comparatively easier to predict and control;3) missing data reporting analysis helps to reveal opportunities for further process improvement and tool enhancement. This investigation aims to help us take advantages of such supporting tools and benefit software development eventually.
