We present the design and development of a compact wide bandwidth balun on a multilayer organic substrate. A defected ground plane is designed into a multi-layered Marchand balun to achieve wide bandwidth. Our experimental results demonstrate that the balun achieves an average measured insertion loss of 0.5 dB from 1.9 GHz to 18 GHz and 1dB from 18 GHz to 20 GHz and a return loss better than 10 dB from 1.9 GHz to 21.5GHz. The measured amplitude imbalance is less than ± 1.4 dB from 1 GHz to 21.5 GHz. The measured phase imbalance is less than ±5° from 1 GHz to 19 GHz. To the best of our knowledge, this planar balun has the largest bandwidth ratio reported to date. © 2010 IEICE Institute of Electronics Informati.

Communication and security functions are considered to be the basic requirements to the electronic devices in the future power grid. Considering limited resources of the embedded field devices, developing the embedded protection devices poses a big challenge in building up the smart grid. This paper shows overhead for computing cryptographic algorithms at the device, and the performance degradation caused by incoming packet processing at embedded system devices. For this analysis we do some experiments on the operation which simulates message exchange in the SCADA system based on the IEC 61850. We also consider the security protocol for secure message exchange in the SCADA system. And then we consider the multi-core processor solution for implementing all required functions on the embedded devices as one possible approach.

In order to prevent coal power system fault for safety production, a novel power quality real time monitor is researched in this paper. According to the coal power system special characteristics and safety production standard, the harmonic of the coal power system is analyzed first based on the wavelet theory, and then the monitoring system is designed with ARM LPC2132 as the client computer to fulfill the common power parameter data acquisition. The whole monitoring system is composed of the signal transform module, data processing module, communication module, host computer interfaces and their function modules. The system software is designed with the platform of LabWindowns/CVI. The research result shows that the power quality monitor can detect the harmonic states in real time.

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has several advantages such as simple structure, high efficiency and Brushless etc, it has obtained widespread application. There are high harmonic contents in the traditional PMSM air gap magnetic field. They will affect the performance of the PMSM. A new rotor structure is presented in this paper. The rotor slot interval changes according to the sine law. We did finite element analysis to the PMSM with new rotor and traditional PMSM by the software ANSYS. The results show that the fundamental content in the air gap magnetic field of the new rotor is high while the High-order harmonic contents is small, the utilization rate of the magnets in the new rotor structure PMSM is high, the new PMSM has a strong overload capacity. So the performance of the new structure PMSM is improved greatly.

Lifetime of multicast connection in a wireless ad-hoc network is constrained by routing topology as well as mobility, interference, noise and battery capacity. In order to optimize the multicast lifetime, a series of routing algorithms and cognitive network models with directional antennas have been proposed. However, these methods can only reach a sub-optimal level. In this paper, we propose an additional search in a specific beamwidth space. Simulation results show that the Beamwidth Scanning algorithm can pick up routing topologies which correspond to improved multicast lifetime.

To solve the problem of voltage fluctuation during the integration into grid and the operation of wind turbine groups, this paper proposes the voltage stability control method for Wind turbine group based on dynamic reactive power compensation. After the introduction of the theory, this paper discussed the voltage stability control strategy for Wind turbine group based on dynamic reactive power compensation on the basis of the study on mathematical model and voltage fluctuation characteristic of wind farms. By using the Matlab/Simulink simulation software, instances simulation has been made. The Simulation results show that this method can provide dynamic voltage support, stabilize bus voltage of wind turbine group in wind farms, and effectively improve the system's operational characteristics. This method can also be applied to the dynamic reactive power compensation and voltage stability control of other asynchronous generator groups and asynchronous motor generator groups.

In this study, the numerical study was conducted to investigate the effect of cooling stream on the erosion to the flue gas turbine impeller by using the commercial CFD software NUMECA. The Spalart-Allamaras turbulence model was employed in this computation. It was found that with increasing the inlet pressure or the mass flow of the cooling steam, the erosion at the tip region of the impeller caused by the vortex could be alleviated. On the other hand, the erosion caused by the catalyst particles inside the cooling steam flowing passage can be also prevented. However, it is important to be noticed that increasing the inlet pressure and the mass flow may decrease the efficiency of the flue gas turbine's main flow. Therefore, it can be conclude that there must exit a critical point for inlet pressure and mass flow, at which the flue gas turbine can reach the optimal condition. The systemic research of the optimal design is should still needed in further study.

Along with environmental consciousness enhancement, conventional energy depletion, wind energy exploitation is expanding gradually due to the renewable merit, clean without any pollution and vast reserve features. Therefore, wind power generation (WPG) system equipped with Doubly Fed Induction Generators is emerging as mushroom. Larger rated capacity of power unit, the higher tower and the variable pitch are the main scope in WPG system. However, latent trouble will bring about likewise. If a fault occurred, it will be catastrophic for WPG system. Consequently, the technology of fault detection will play a more important role in WPG system. Based on the present status, a novel method is proposed in this paper after summarizing and analyzing the lack of previous methods. Then an example for detecting the inverter fault is studied using PSCAD software. Results indicated that the proposed method is effective and feasible.

This paper presents a new circuit model of SSSC based on state equations in three-wired systems. SSSC is a series compensator of FACTS family. It injects an almost sinusoidal voltage with variable amplitude and is equivalent to an inductive or a capacitive reactance in series with the transmission line. The analysis of a power electronics system is complex, owing to its switching behavior. Since such a system has its special complexities, the need for simpler model is essential, though a more practical one is sometimes appropriate. With simple changes, this paper's model shows different states of SSSC, both transient and steady states, in the range of ideal to practical as confirmed by MATLAB simulation. This model is suitable for circuit simulation software such as MATLAB or PSPICE and is proper to control process and control methods. This model can be used as a starting point for further investigations on control methods in the future.

Paper mainly introduces a kind of design method of building an on-line intelligent assistant teaching system based on dynamic web language program tool. This system uses ASP language as developing-designing tools, and adopts software of Dreamwaver MX, etc in B/S structure, which completing web platform system building. In this paper, we introduce design method and realization process of system parts of sub-system function module design in course 〉VB Program Design〈, as well as provide some sub-system web pages and corresponding source file in detail. System design study, communication and on line test modules, as well as design homework uploading sub-system, etc, which can be replant into other course and can improve students' study interest and study initiative. In addition, system has background management module by technologies of database SQL and ADO, etc, which can realize on-line manage whole system materials easily. ©2010 IEEE.
