Multiple cues play a crucial role in image interpretation. A vision system that combines shape, colour, motion, prior scene knowledge and object motion behaviour is described. We show that the use of interpretation strategies which depend on the image data, temporal context and visual goals significantly simplifies the complexity of the image interpretation problem and makes it computationally feasible.

In this paper, two distinct imageprocessing.architectures have been outlined, the first with parallel scaleable features, and the second incorporating boundary scan test. Both these architectures utilize high performance digital signal processing.(DSP)'s and have allowed fast imageprocessing.systems to be developed at a reasonable cost. The parallel architecture shows significant speed-up when processing.image, with a 2-D FFT illustrating certain aspect of the system.

This paper has presented how the representation of color pixels values in complex form leads to generalizations of established monochrome frequency domain techniques in the case of color image. For the same amount of processing.as for monochrome images, the use of this complex form has resulted in the advantage that the color of the object is able to be detected. It is expected that similar generalizations will be able to be applied to the techniques of solving scale and rotation invariance.

This paper uses theory and laboratory experiment, to show that directional illumination used during the image acquisition process, acts as a directional filter of three dimensional texture. It is shown that the directional characteristics of image texture are not intrinsic to the physical texture being imaged, as they are affected by the direction of the illumination. The implications of this to texture classification are then investigated using a set of Laws' [1] operators. Finally, a scheme for the compensation of effects caused by changes in illuminant orientation is proposed and evaluated.

This paper presents a domain hybrid subsampling-interpolation(DHSI) technique, which can adaptively change subsampling and interpolation modes according to the intrapixel correlation of domains in an image. The analysis both in theory and experiments show that in the reconstructed image, all details such as one-pixel wide lines will be completely recovered while using DHSI and it is the optimal subsampling-interpolation method when assessing using subjective and objective fidelity criteria.

The objective of this study is to find an appropriate method of improving spectral image classifications. To fulfill this objective, a slightly modified k-Nearest-Neighbour strategy is proposed for the calculation of feature-probability densities. In addition, the method of using spatially distributed prior probabilities is reviewed and shown how it can be perfectly combined with the proposed method. By conducting several experiments, it is found that the proposed strategy serves the purpose of accurately estimating class-areas, as well as increasing classification accuracies to the same extent as the 'pixel prior' method does.

An important problem for blind people during their navigation in the outdoor environment is the need for external help while reaching a specific place. In order to reduce this dependence, a smart mobile system capable of simple scene descriptions and useful landmarks should be developed. This study proposes a system that provides an interpretation of real scenes through single (monocular) image analysis. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed system is validated using Indoor and Outdoor scenes in natural situations without any expedient to make image interpretation easier.
