Mobile autonomous transport systems are a crucial part of flexible factory logistics enabling an adaptable industrial production. Whereas connectivity of these mobile robots is still mostly covered through Wifi, applicators suffer from interferences and unreliableness due to the harsh environmental conditions. We present a case study using 4G campus networks applying network slicing technology and edge computing in order to realize a distributed control scenario. Control algorithms are offloaded to the edge following a navigation as a service approach. Basic safety functions remain onboard while self-localization and mapping as well as motion planning run on either a factory edge, a nearby edge or on a public cloud. We present an evaluation of the overall architecture and focus on effects of offloading control functions towards the edge. Finally, we provide an outlook towards the usage of 5G.

In this paper, we present a fault diagnosis approach based on a probabilistic model, more specifically a Bayesian one, while relying on a distributed Multi-Agent systems paradigm. First, a networked control water system benchmark is introduced, then a Bayesian approach for fault diagnosis is provided where inference and time dependencies between operating modes of systems are tackled. It is suggested that a Multi-Agent System, where entities interact and cooperate in a distributed architecture while expressing subjective knowledge of the system, is relevant regarding fault handling and offers more flexibility in the implementation and data collection.

the problem of desining stabilizing decentralized controllers to achieve robust asymtotic traking of certain references despite certain disturbances, which is called as the decentralized robust servomecanism problem, is consdered for lineer time-invarant (LTI) systems with disributed time-delay. the formulation, however, allows the reprsentation of discrete and distributed time-delays together. It is asumed that, the references and the distrbance satisfy a LTI delay-diferential equation with distrubuted and/or discrete time-delays. the case of references and the disturbance satisfying a LTI diferential equation can also be treated. the necesary and suficient condtions for the solvbility of this problem are derived. the strcture of the controler, when a solution exists, is also presented.

Enterprises collaborate in government-regulated markets by developing and realizing exchange relationships. However, current Accounting Information systems (AIS) are organized in an enterprise-centric way. We introduce the Multilateral AIS (MAIS) perspective on top of the Bilateral (Shared Ledger) and Unilateral Enterprise-Specific perspectives for Corporate Reporting. We reconsider our previous conceptualization in the OntoUML language of the Economic Exchange lifecycle in Bilateral AIS from an Economic System and Market perspective. We identify requirements for existing accounting framework improvement in MAIS. An online platform case is provided as an illustration.

Modern algorithms for virtual reality, machine learning or big data find its way into more and more application fields and result in stricter power per watt requirements. this challenges traditional homogeneous computing concepts and drives the development of new, heterogeneous architectures. One idea to attain a balance of high data throughput and flexibility are GPU-like soft-core processors combined with general purpose CPUs as hosts. However, the approaches proposed in recent years are still not sufficient regarding their integration in a shared hardware environment and unified software stack. the approach of the HSA Foundation provides a complete communication definition for heterogeneous systems but lacks FPGA accelerator support. Our work presents a methodology making soft-core processors HSA compliant within MPSoC systems. this enables high level software programming and therefore eases the accessibility of soft-core FPGA accelerators. Furthermore, the integration effort is kept low by fully utilizing the HSA Foundation standards and toolchains. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Given a family of independent and identically distributed samples extracted from the input region and their corresponding outputs, in this paper we propose a method to under-approximate the set of safe inputs that lead the black-box system to respect a given safety specification. Our method falls within the framework of probably approximately correct (PAC) learning. the computed under-approximation comes with statistical soundness provided by the underlying PAC learning process. Such a set, which we call a PAC under-approximation, is obtained by computing a PAC model of the black-box system with respect to the specified safety specification. In our method, the PAC model is computed based on the scenario approach, which encodes as a linear program. the linear program is constructed based on the given family of input samples and their corresponding outputs. the size of the linear program does not depend on the dimensions of the state space of the black-box system, thus providing scalability. Moreover, the linear program does not depend on the internal mechanism of the black-box system, thus being applicable to systems that existing methods are not capable of dealing with. Some case studies demonstrate these properties, general performance and usefulness of our approach.

there has been a huge increase in interest in blockchain technology. However, little is known about the drivers behind the adoption of this technology. In this paper we identify and analyze these drivers, using three real-world and representative scenarios. We confirm in our analysis that blockchain is not an appropriate technology for some scenarios, from a purely technical point of view. the choice for blockchain technology in such scenarios may therefore seem as an irrational choice. However, our analysis reveals that there are non-technical drivers at play that drive the adoption of blockchain, such as philosophical beliefs, network effects, and economic incentives. these non-technical drivers may explain the rationality behind the choice for blockchain adoption.

this paper proposes a concept of low-cost industrial wireless sensor network integrating the power consumption efficient ESP32 chip. the main focus is given on best practices of various sensors integration into Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) of ESP32 devices. the work proposes an architecture for data collection, security and possibility of data analysis. Energy effectiveness is estimated for battery usage in different modes of the chip. the last part of this work presents the conclusions and guidelines for future work. Road map of a distributed modeling framework for plant-wide process monitoring is also introduced.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) has revolutionized the way networking services are offered and deployed. Moving away from a rigid and hardware-centric approach, where expensive and dedicated network components are used, NFV is now leveraging standard x86 servers, where softwarized images of network functions (NFs) can be hosted as Virtual Machines (VNFs) or containers (CNFs). However, in terms of deploying, configuring, and interconnecting these softwarized images, a lot of manual intervention is required. To this end, the Intent-Based Networking (IBN) paradigm has emerged, which has as a goal to automate the network configuration by translating a high-level and abstract request of a network service into a detailed policy description. Usually, IBN and NFV are studied separately, even though in reality they are highly correlated and can benefit from each other. In particular, network services can be expressed as abstract service requirements from the users, where through an IBN System (IBNS) will be translated into specific network policies and a VNF/CNF deployment solution, called VNF Placement solution. Accordingly, in this paper, we aim to combine these two technologies together in order to automate the deployment of the VNFs in a Cloud-based infrastructure, while supporting multitenancy and intent refinement. Our results reveal that an IBN-based VNF placement solution can successfully offer network services, expressed as user intents, in such a way that the network services are automatically configured according to the quality of service and security requirements included in the intent.

We study graph computations in an enhanced data streaming setting, where a space-bounded client reading the edge stream of a massive graph may delegate some of its work to a cloud service. We seek algorithms that allow the client to verify a purported proof sent by the cloud service that the work done in the cloud is correct. A line of work starting with Chakrabarti et al. (ICALP 2009) has provided such algorithms, which we call schemes, for several statistical and graph-theoretic problems, many of which exhibit a tradeoff between the length of the proof and the space used by the streaming verifier. this work designs new schemes for a number of basic graph problems - including triangle counting, maximum matching, topological sorting, and single-source shortest paths - where past work had either failed to obtain smooth tradeoffs between these two key complexity measures or only obtained suboptimal tradeoffs. Our key innovation is having the verifier compute certain nonlinear sketches of the input stream, leading to either new or improved tradeoffs. In many cases, our schemes in fact provide optimal tradeoffs up to logarithmic factors. Specifically, for most graph problems that we study, it is known that the product of the verifier's space cost v and the proof length h must be at least Ω(n2) for n-vertex graphs. However, matching upper bounds are only known for a handful of settings of h and v on the curve h · v = Θ(~ n2). For example, for counting triangles and maximum matching, schemes with costs lying on this curve are only known for (h = Õ(n2), v = Õ(1)), (h = Õ(n), v = Õ(n)), and the trivial (h = Õ(1), v = Õ(n2)).
