Recent years have witnessed a rapid growth of deep-network based services and applications. A practical and critical problem thus has emerged: how to effectively deploy the deep neural network models such that they can be executed efficiently. Conventional cloud-based approaches usually run the deep models in data center servers, causing large latency because a significant amount of data has to be transferred from the edge of network to the data center. In this paper, we propose JALAD, a joint accuracy- and latency-aware execution framework, which decouples a deep neural network so that a part of it will run at edge devices and the other part inside the conventional cloud, while only a minimum amount of data has to be transferred between them. though the idea seems straightforward, we are facing challenges including i) how to find the best partition of a deep structure;ii) how to deploy the component at an edge device that only has limited computation power;and iii) how to minimize the overall execution latency. Our answers to these questions are a set of strategies in JALAD, including 1) A normalization based in-layer data compression strategy by jointly considering compression rate and model accuracy;2) A latency-aware deep decoupling strategy to minimize the overall execution latency;and 3) An edge-cloud structure adaptation strategy that dynamically changes the decoupling for different network conditions. Experiments demonstrate that our solution can significantly reduce the execution latency: it speeds up the overall inference execution with a guaranteed model accuracy loss.

Induction motor, especially driving motor, is the critical component for various modern industrial machineries. Fault diagnosis of induction motor is therefore a necessary and crucial task to ensure the machinery health and prevent vital damages. Conventional diagnosis methods are mainly based on intrusive sensors to measure certain physical parameters. however, intrusive sensors are costly and hard 10 apply to update traditional machines. In this paper, we propose EMFD, an energy-image based non-intrusive multi-parameter fault diagnosis system. We design an EMFD sensing platform to monitor the electric circuit parameters. then we build a fault model that describes the relationships between two major kinds of faults and the electric circuit parameters. Based on the model, we propose a novel fault diagnosis algorithm that exploits a sparse auto-encoder based deep neural network. Different from the existing single parameter methods, EMFD takes advantage of multiple circuit parameters and achieves accurate and robust diagnosis even in dynamic operating environments. We implement and deploy the proposed system in a real-world factory. the evaluation results show that EMFD can achieve the diagnosis accuracy of 96%.

In the past few years, the extinction of Moore's Law makes people reconsider the solutions for dealing with the low computing resource utilization of applications on multi core processor systems. However, making good use of computing resources in multi-core processors systems is not easy due to the differences between single-core and multi-core architecture. Nowadays short video apps like Instagram and Tik Tok have successfully caught people's eyes by fascinating short videos, typically just 10 to 30 seconds long, uploaded by the users of apps. And almost all of these videos are recorded by their mobile devices, which are typically HD (High Definition) or FHD (Full High Definition) videos, which prefer to be encoded/decoded by H.264/AVC rather then HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) on mobile devices in view of the energy consumption and decoding speed. How to dive the huge potential of the computing resource on multi-core mobile devices to speed up decoding these videos while consuming low energy, is a big challenge. In our previous work [1], a relatively simple parallel framework was proposed to implement a parallel H.264/AVC decoder. this work further proposes a more detailed systematic task-level parallel framework, together with an energy saving strategy based on this framework, to research a new H.264/AVC decoder on multi-core processor systems. the proposed parallel method is composed of a set of rules to guide parallel software programming (PSPR) and a software parallelization framework (SPF). the PSPR is applied in pre-processing steps to address the potential issues limiting the inherent parallelism, and the SPF is applied to parallelize the original serial programs. After the parallelization is successfully deployed, DVFS technique would be applied to decrease the power dissipation based on the SPF. Results show that proposed solutions make a significant improvement in decoding speed of 32% at 720p, 27% at 1080p and 29% at 2160p, and in energy savings of

IEEE 802.1Q networks with extensions for time-sensitive networking aim to enable converged networks. Converged networks support hard-real time communication services in addition to the currently supported services classes. Real-time communication in these networks requires routes and schedules for the real-time transmissions. We present a formulation in the integer linear programming (ILP) framework which models the joint routing and scheduling problem for flows of periodic real-time transmissions in converged TSN networks. In the joint routing and scheduling problem, both routes and schedules for real-time transmissions are computed in one step, i.e. we do not schedule over predefined routes. We explore the practical limitations of this approach by evaluating the runtime of problem instances with widely varying parameters with a state-of-the-art ILP solver. the observed solver runtimes indicate the qualitative impact of the number of real-time flows, the size of the network, the transmission frequency of real-time transmissions, and the network topology.

there is a growing interest in using the Blockchain for resolving IoT security and trustworthiness issues existing in today's complex systems. Blockchain concerns trust in peer to peer networks by providing a distributed tamper-resistant ledger. However, the combination of these two emerging technologies might create new problems and vulnerabilities that attackers might abuse. In this paper, we aim to investigate the trust mechanism of Lightweight Scalable BlockChain (LSB), that is a Blockchain specifically designed for Internet of things networks, to show that a malicious participant in a Blockchain architecture have possibility to pursue an On-Off attack and downgrade the integrity of the distributed ledger. We choose a remote software update process as an instance to represent this violation. Finally, using the actor-based language Rebeca, we provide a model of a system under attack and verify the described attack scenario.

Cloud-based cyber-physical systems, like vehicle and intelligent transportation systems, are now attracting much more attentions. these systems usually include large-scale distributed sensor networks covering various components and producing enormous measurement data. Lots of modeling languages are put to use for describing cyber-physical systems or its aspects, bringing contribution to the development of cyber-physical systems. But most of the modeling techniques only focuse on software aspect so that they could not exactly express the whole cloud-based cyber-physical systems, which require appropriate views and tools in its design;but those tools are hard to be used under systemic or object-oriented methods. For example, the widest used modeling language, UML, could not fulfil the above design's requirements by using the foremer's standard form. this paper presents a method designing the cloud-based cyber-physical systems with AADL, by which we can analyse, model and apply those requirements on cloud platforms ensuring QoS in a relatively highly extensible way at the mean time.

[Context and Motivation:] Complex, dynamic, and distributed systems confront requirements engineers with new challenges. the systems operate in dynamic environments with an increasing complexity. Modeling the context for understanding, developing and validate the requirements becomes a difficult task. [Question/ problem:] Current requirements engineering techniques for gathering information are not sufficient to capture the system behavior and the environment for this class of systems. [Principal ideas/ results:] A new approach is needed to support the development of an environment model, the idea is to use runtime information (e.g., from executing early prototypes of the system) to gather additional facts about the environment. [Contribution:] In this paper I present the motivation and challenges for the environment modeling for complex, dynamic, and distributed systems and an overview of the progress of my thesis. Natural language requirement descriptions are often unstructured, contradictory and incomplete and are therefore challenging for automatic processing. Although many of these deficits can be compensated by means of natural language processing, there still remain cases where interaction with end-users is necessary for clarification. In this vision paper, we present CORDULA, a system using chatbot technology to establish end-user communication in order to support the requirement elicitation and partial compensation of deficits in user requirements. Software producing organizations regularly make complex technology decisions as part of the software production process, even when there is low availability of expertise in the domain within the organization. Software production is consequently a suitable domain to deploy decision support systems that intelligently assist decision-makers in selecting desirable technologies according to their requirements and priorities. In this tool paper, we introduce a decision support system that supports decision-makers in group and individual decision-making problems to select the most suitable technologies. Technology experts from different domains, such as database management systems and cloud service providers, confirm that the approach provides more knowledge than they could have collected independently, increases insight into the selection process, and reduces the time and cost of the decision-making process. We consider a distributed system that stores user sensitive data across multiple nodes. In this context, we address the problem of privacy-preserving top-k query processing. We propose a novel system, called SD-TOPK, that is able to evaluate top-k queries over encrypted distributed data without needing to decrypt the data in the nodes where they are stored. We implemented and evaluated our system over synthetic and real databases. the results show excellent performance for SD-TOPK compared to baseline approaches.
