The new challenging era of scientific data management in the coming decade named "Big Data" requires giant complexes for distributed computing and corresponding grid-cloud internet services. Known common approaches to software reliability based on the probability theory or on considering software as an open non-equilibrium dynamic system cannot conform to advanced grid-cloud software management systems. Therefore to provide the optimality and reliability of such sophisticated systems.we choose the imitative simulation method oriented on a knowledge of dynamics of the system functioning. A new grid and cloud service simulation system was developed in the JINR Dubna laboratory of information technologies which focused on improving the efficiency and reliability of the grid-cloud systems.development by using work quality indicators of some real system to design and predict its evolution. For these purposes the simulation program is combined with real monitoring system of the gridcloud service through a special database. Some examples of the program applications to simulate a sufficiently general cloud structure, which can be used for more common purposes, are given.

Reliable distributed systems

The characteristics of failures occurring in networked computing systems.are still poorly understood. As a consequence, this is a rich area for exploration, especially with the arrival of new network interface standards, such as the Virtual Interface Architecture (VIA) adopted by Microsoft, Intel and Compaq. The goal of VIA is to improve the performance of distributed applications by reducing the latency associated with the exchange of critical message between processes in Windows NT-based systems. In this paper, we propose the SMiFI (software Multilevel Fault Injection) mechanism to evaluate the failure characteristics of networked systems. specifically VIA. The mechanism covers all software protocol layers of the host interface and corrupts both the messages and the computation engines that manipulate the messages.

Summary form only given. distributed systems.verification is one of the main issues in software engineering. It is considered as the major field of the formal specification techniques. However, many difficulties remain. In fact, the principal problem is in producing a coherent specification and providing a fully integrated semantics. Since formal methods are mathematical description models that try to give a response concerning the reliability of a system. It remains a hard way for the designers. Thus, we present, here, an open environment for the integration of formal methods in the description and verification of distributed and concurrent systems. The system currently uses UML notation and provides rewriting logic, model checking, theorem proving, and simulation techniques.

Multicast (group) communications have been widely recognized by current research and industry. Multicast is very useful for various network applications such as distributed (replicated) database, video/audio conference, information distribution and server locations etc. But design and implementation of such multicast communication systems.in networks are complicated tasks, especially when quality of service (QoS) of applications such as real time and reliability are desired. In order to quickly design and implement multicast communication, good tools are crucial and must be facilitated. The paper presents a novel object oriented (OO) QoS driven approach for the quick design and prototyping of multicast communication systems.under certain QoS requirements, for multicast message transmission and receptions such as real time, total ordering, atomicity and fault tolerance etc.

In this paper we describe an infrastructure that provides increased reliability for three-tier applications, transparently, using commercial off-the-shelf application servers and database systems. In this infrastructure the application servers are actively replicated to protect the business logic processing. Replicating the transaction coordinator renders the two-phase commit protocol non-blocking and, thus, avoids potentially long service disruptions caused by coordinator failure. A thin interpositioning library provides client-side automatic failover, so that clients know the outcome of their requests. The interaction between the application servers and the database servers is handled through replicated gateways that prevent duplicate requests from reaching the database servers. Aborted transactions, caused by process or communication faults, are automatically retried on the client's behalf.

We are investigating the problem of ensuring global consistency in the context of distributed database systems. Our current research effort concentrates on theoretical study of reliability mechanisms such as algorithm design and performance characterization. In addition, we are building a testbed for evaluating different reliability mechanisms through detailed simulation and actual *** is the key factor in improving the availability of distributed database systems. A major restriction in using replication is that replicated copies must behave like a single copy. We have developed algorithms for replication control using tokens [2, 5]. The next step of our research in this direction would be to evaluate different partial operation policies which are critical in maintaining the correctness and achieving the high availability of distributed database systems. Two alternatives are possible when a partition occurs: pessimistic and optimistic. Neither of the two alternatives is superior to the other. Higher availability achieved by an optimistic approach may be penalized during recovery from partition failures, by backing out committed transactions which violate consistency *** if the replication and concurrency control mechanisms are correct and maintain the consistency of the database, the failures of hardware and/or software at the processing site and communication network may destroy the consistency of the database. In order to cope with failures, distributed database systems.must provide recovery mechanisms. The goal of checkpointing is to save database states on a separate secure device so that the database can be recovered when errors and failures occur. A checkpointing mechanism which does not interfere with the transaction processing in distributed environment is highly desirable for many applications, where restricting transaction activity during checkpointing is not feasible. The distributed recovery block (DRB) scheme is an approach for realizing both hardware and software fault tolerance in real time distributed and parallel computer systems. We point out that in order for the DRB scheme to yield a high fault coverage and a low recovery time bound, some important consistency requirements must be satisfied by the replicated application tasks in a DRB computing station. Newly identified approaches for meeting the consistency requirements, which involve, among other things, integration of network surveillance and reconfiguration (NSR) techniques with the DRB scheme, are presented. The paper then presents an analysis of the recovery time bound of the DRB scheme. The analysis is based on a modular structured concrete implementation model of the DRB scheme for local area network (LAN) based distributed computer systems. which is called the DRB/T LAN scheme and incorporates an NSR scheme and the newly identified consistency ensuring mechanisms. Finally, we consider approaches for applying the DRB scheme to new types of application computation segments that were not considered before and then discuss approaches for meeting the consistency requirements in such DRB stations. These approaches broaden the application range of the DRB scheme significantly.

Modern-day computing system design and development is characterized by increasing system complexity and ever shortening time to market. For modeling techniques to be deployed successfully, they must conveniently deal with complex system models, and must be quick and easy to use by non-specialists. In this paper we introduce "action models", a modeling formalism that tries to achieve the above goals for reliability evaluation of fault-tolerant distributed computing systems. including both software and hardware in the analysis. The metric of interest in action models is the job success probability, and we will argue why the traditional availability metric is insufficient for the evaluation of fault-tolerant distributed systems. We formally specify action models, and introduce path-based solution algorithms to deal with the potential solution complexity of created models. In addition, we show several examples of action models, and use a preliminary tool implementation to obtain reliability results for a reliable clustered computing platform.

Presents a feasibility study of two combined techniques for software fault tolerance in distributed systems. A probabilistic model for each technique is presented that represents a technique's ability to recover from software and hardware faults that occur with arbitrary frequency. The goal is not to accurately predict the behavior of systems.that employ these techniques, but rather to identify the strong and weak points of each approach under varying circumstances of dependability in both the system and the fault-tolerance components. An example study shows how these models can be used to understand the influence of component failures on the reliability of systems.using these two approaches.< >

Orchestration systems.are becoming a key component to automatically manage distributed computing resources in many fields with criticality requirements like Industry 4.0 (14.0). However, they are mainly linked to OS-level virtualization, which is known to suffer from reduced isolation. In this paper, we propose RunPHI with the aim of integrating partitioning hypervisors, as a solution for assuring strong isolation, with OS-level orchestration systems. The purpose is to enable container orchestration in mixed-criticality systems.with isolation requirements through partitioned containers.
