DBLP that is considered a digital repository of a massive amount of scientific papers does not have an easy and scalable way for users to find what they need. Our paper introduces a digital library recommender system named DLRS that facilitates the searching process in big data environment based on Hadoop and Hive-Ql as a query engine using MapReduce parallel programming framework.

Summary form only given. Funded by the US National Science Foundation, the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) project seeks to provide "a single virtual system that scientists can use to interactively share computing resources, data and experience."1 The resources, owned by many different organizations and individuals in the US or abroad, may be at national centers, on campuses, in individual research labs, or at home. Heterogeneity pervades such an environment. There are heterogeneous processor architectures, node architectures, operating systems, load management systems, file systems, linkage libraries, MPI implementations and versions, authentication policies, authorization requirements, internet access policies and mechanisms, and operational policies, tolerance for risk -- the list goes on and on. It is the role of the XSEDE architecture to provide a clean model for component/component interactions, the definition of the standard core components, and the architectural approach to the non-functional aspects, often called the "ilities". These interfaces and interaction patterns must be sufficient to implement the XSEDE use case both today and into the future. We have followed the principles that Notkin and others espoused in the early *** talk describes the architectural features required to satisfy one of the most demanding use cases: executing workflows spanning XSEDE resources and campus-based resources. This use highlights the obvious functional aspects of execution and data management, identity federation, identity delegation, as well as more difficult-to-homogenize qualities such as local operational policies. We will begin with a discussion of the use case requirements, then examine how the architectural components are combined to realize the use case. We will then discuss some of the problems encountered along the way both with the standards used as well as the approach of a homogeneous virtual machine.

The ith coordinate of an [n, k] code is said to have locality r and availability t if there exist t disjoint groups, each containing at most r other coordinates that can together recover the value of the ith coordinate. This property is particularly useful for codes for distributed storage systems because it permits local repair of failed nodes and parallel access of hot data. In this paper, for any positive integers r and t, we construct a binary linear code of length equation which has locality r and availability t for all coordinates. Although it only achieves the trivial minimum distance (i.e. t + 1), its information rate attains equation, which is higher than that of the direct product code, the only known construction that can achieve arbitrary locality and availability.

With the increasing utilization and popularity of the cloud infrastructure, more and more data are moved to the cloud storage systems. This makes the availability of cloud storage services critically important, particularly given the fact that outages of cloud storage services have indeed happened from time to time. Thus, solely depending on a single cloud storage provider for storage services can risk violating the service-level agreement (SLA) due to the weakening of service availability. This has led to the notion of Cloud-of-Clouds, where data redundancy is introduced to distribute data among multiple independent cloud storage providers, to address the problem. The key in the effectiveness of the Cloud-of-Clouds approaches lies in how the data redundancy is incorporated and distributed among the clouds. However, the existing Cloud-of-Clouds approaches utilize either replication or erasure codes to redundantly distribute data across multiple clouds, thus incurring either high space or high performance overheads. In this paper, we propose a hybrid redundant data distribution approach, called HyRD, to improve the cloud storage availability in Cloud-of-Clouds by exploiting the workload characteristics and the diversity of cloud providers. In HyRD, large files are distributed in multiple cost-efficient cloud storage providers with erasure-coded data redundancy while small files and file system metadata are replicated on multiple high-performance cloud storage providers. The experiments conducted on our lightweight prototype implementation of HyRD show that HyRD improves the cost efficiency by 33.4% and 20.4%, and reduces the access latency by 58.7% and 34.8% than the DuraCloud and RACS schemes, respectively.

We present here a transaction management protocol using causal snapshot isolation in partially replicated multi-version databases. We consider here replicated databases consisting of multiple disjoint data partitions. A partition is not required to be replicated at all database sites, and a site may contain replicas for any number of partitions. Transactions can execute at any site and read or write data from any subset of the partitions, and its updates are propagated asynchronously to other sites. The protocol ensures that the snapshot observed by a transaction contains data versions that are causally consistent. The protocol requires propagating updates only to the sites replicating the updated items. In developing this protocol, we address the issues that are unique in supporting transactions with causal consistency together with the snapshot isolation model in partially replicated databases. Through experimental evaluations, we demonstrate the scalability of this model and its performance benefits over full replication models.

Pattern libraries are important tools for high productivity application development. Their struggle for best performance is complicated by the fact that they are used to execute user-provided code, which is not known during their creation. This makes pattern libraries good candidate for automatic software tuning. In this paper, we deal with automatic online parameter tuning of the HyPHI hybrid pattern library for heterogeneous systems equipped with the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. We propose a framework that can be used to combine a pattern library with an existing tuning library in a practical and efficient way. Our experiments show that tuning can noticeably improve the performance of the library and it introduces very little overhead.

Large amounts of real-time data is used by geographically distributed real-time applications. Using DRTDBMS1 is more and more needed to better manage the large amount of real-time data. In order to take account of unpredictable workload, Quality of Service (QoS) based approaches are the most appropriate. In the case of distributed real-time applications, it is necessary to take into account the problems of load balancing for user transactions between different nodes. Feedback Scheduling based approaches can manage the unpredictable workload variations. Further, the imprecise computation technique has been defined as a technique to enhance the Quality of Service QoS) in centralized RTDBMS. In this paper, we propose to apply the imprecise computation approach in a distributed feedback control scheduling architecture to improve the QoS in DRTDBMS. Then, we focus on two ways of optimization in DRTDBMS, 1) the space optimization in which we propose to apply three replication data policies, and 2) the QoS optimization in which we propose an improvement of the imprecise computation to ensure a better quality of the service.

State-machine replication, a fundamental approach to fault tolerance, requires replicas to execute commands de-terministically, which usually results in sequential execution of commands. Sequential execution limits performance and under-uses servers, which are increasingly parallel (i.e., multicore). To narrow the gap between state-machine replication requirements and the characteristics of modern servers, researchers have recently come up with alternative execution models. This paper surveys existing approaches to parallel state-machine replication and proposes a novel optimistic protocol that inherits the scalable features of previous techniques. Using a replicated B+-tree service, we demonstrate in the paper that our protocol outperforms the most efficient techniques by a factor of 2.4 times.
