In large scale software development projects, in particular in the field of Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE), different kinds of a project's artifacts are used and related information is spread over the different artifacts. E.g., the transaction attributes ("Require", "Requires-New", etc.) of methods of an Enterprise Java Bean are defined in the deployment descriptor while the method bodies are defined in a Java class. If we want to put these information into relation, e.g., to find all methods with a specific transaction attribute, we have to use different search engines and have to map the information manually. It is not possible to execute "one query" that returns the desired result. XIRC is a platform that enables to define queries over a uniform representation of all artifacts of a software project. XIRC maps all artifacts of a project to XML representations and stores the documents in a database. The database can be queried using XQuery, a functional query language for XML documents. XIRC can be used as a sophisticated search engine, as a tool to checkimplementation restrictions, to find errors or as a basis for further tools for code generation and visualization.

The confluence of component based development, model driven development and software product lines forms an approach to application development based on the concept of software factories. This approach promises greater gains in productivity and predictability than those produced by incremental improvements to the current paradigm of object orientation, which have not kept pace with innovation in platform technology. Software factories promise to make application assembly more cost effective through systematic reuse, enabling the formation of supply chains and opening the door to mass customization.

Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a technology that has been in the process of evolution for many years. Today, many vendors are now producing products that support MDA. We are hearing more and more success stories that indicate that this technology is the "real deal". But, with the failed promises of CASE in the late 1980's, many people still have questions about how much of an application can really be generated from models and constraint languages. Is MDA really capable of generating enterprise applications? What are the technologies are available to implement MDA? This panel examines the technologies and tools behind Model Driven Architecture. Each panelist has been intricately involved in building the underlying foundations of Model Driven Architecture and implementation. There are many possible implementations of MDA including action semantics and the object constraint language. This panel will examine: What is the future of MDA? Will the "model driven" approach replace "high-level" languages as "high-level" languages replaced assembly languages? What are the challenges with using an MDA approach? How can a project get started using MDA?

One of the major problems in the implementation of Natural Language Processing (NLP) or Machine Translation(MT) is a complete lexicon: the place where the systems information about words is stored. There are difficulties in deciding what information should be stored in a lexicon and even greater difficulties in acquiring this information in proper form. OriNet system designed to incorporate multiple lexical database and tools under one consistent functional interface in order to facilitate systems requiring syntactic, semantic and lexical information of Oriya language. We divide the whole work into two independent task. One task is to write the source file that contains the basic lexical data and the content of those files are the lexical substance of OriNet. Lexicographer did the major work of this task. In the second task was to create a set of programs those would accept the source files and processing it ultimately to display for the user. This paper describes an ongoing work on designing an object oriented model for OriNet system. The technology of object oriented programming in particular the rich library of classes and programming principles in which Java offers. It also provides a convenient tool to conceptualise the process of OriNet system. This technique also allows flexibility and extensibility of the system with more robustness.

One of the issues in software evolution is debugging. Debugging large and complex software systems evolved requires a lot of effort since it is very difficult to localize and identity faults. Therefore, reducing the effort of debugging process is an important step towards efficient software evolution. Program slicing, especially dynamic slicing, has been proposed to efficiently localize faults in a procedural program and an object-oriented program. Although several tools have been developed for Java programs, these are difficult to maintain because of the frequent revision of Java languages. Aspect-oriented Programming (AOP) is a new technology for the separation of concerns in program development. Using AOP modularizing crosscutting aspects of a system is possible. One useful application of AOP is for modularizing the collecting program's dynamic information for program analysis. Since the collection of dynamic information affects the over-all target program, this functionality is a typical crosscutting concern. In this paper, we apply AOP to develop a program debugging tool using program slicing. First, we examine the application of AOP for collecting dynamic information from program execution and for calculating program slices. Next, we develop a program slicing system using AspectJ. Finally, we describe the benefits, usability, and cost effectiveness of a module of dynamic analysis based on AOP

In the Unified Modeling Language (UML) models are constructed graphically, by drawing diagrams. However, it is not always easy to manipulate diagrams using the CASE-tools of today. For example, some of the functionality and information are hidden behind complex menu or dialog hierarchies, diminishing the usability of the tools. Promoting usability of an existing tool should be done transparently, without disturbing the normal way of using it. Speech recognition can be used as an extra user interface that also allows simultaneous use of other interfaces. UML is a good target for speech recognition since its vocabulary is limited and already specified in the UML metamodel. In this paper, we show how speech recognition can be used to enhance the usage of existing UML CASE-tools. We present the prototype of a speech control system over UML CASE-tools as well as the results of the early usability studies and experiments on the system.

Safety-critical software systems follow rigorous software processes to ensure safety to human life. These rigorous processes have a tendency to limit how safety-critical software is written. In addition, automation tools and manual processes are used to inspect every path of execution flow of safety-critical software to ensure predictable behavior. As a result of these rigorous processes, safety-critical software is more expensive to develop and maintain. On the other hand, the primary goal of software stability is to separate the enduring technology portions of software from easily changeable domain portions of the software. By doing so, the software becomes more flexible and can evolve with less effort and cost. Enduring business themes (EBT) is the most written about software technique for developing stable software. The EBT technique is object-oriented and promotes use of interpreters, compilers, and rules engines, which replace readable code with translation of human readable input. In contrast, guidelines for the development of safety-critical software do not fully address the use of object-oriented languages, and lace a strong emphasis on code inspection to clearly identify all paths of execution as deterministic. Thus, software stability approaches appear to be at conflict with the rigorous practices required in safety-critical software systems. Can safety-critical software development embrace software stability concepts to allow the software to be easier to change and adapt? We think the safety-critical software can be made flexible; we show you how in this paper.
