Amidst the dynamic landscape of agriculture, the integration of robotic technologies emerges as a transformative force. this paper unveils a robotic plant health monitoring and intervention system, integrating machine learning and networking, tailored to revolutionize automation of agricultural practices. the centralized network server, in the system, utilizes Python scripts for socket communication with robots, as well as for implementing algorithms for optimized robot selection and path planning. Surveillance robots, equipped with ESP32-S with camera and Wroom modules navigate around the field and capture real-time images. the server on receiving these images does crop disease detection using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), achieving high accuracy. Spray bots then target affected crops and spray pesticides and fertilizers as necessary using a 5V pump with precision. Unlike the surveillance robots, the spray bots are equipped with only ESP32 Wroom which controls both the movement and spray action. the system also features a software implementation that illustrates tasks like robot selection, networked communication, surveillance, and pesticide application autonomously executed in an agricultural field, highlighting the potential for scalable field deployment. the integrated solution ensures timely interventions, enhances yield quality, reduces environmental impact, and demonstrates potential of the concept - Internet of Robots in driving sustainable agricultural practices. Future iterations aim for full autonomy to further optimize system operation.

Network functions like firewalls, proxies, and NATs are instances of distributed systems that lie on the critical path for a substantial fraction of today's cloud applications. Unfortunately, validating these systems remains difficult due to their complex stateful, timed, and distributed *** this paper, we present the design and implementation of Aragog, a runtime verification system for distributed network functions that achieves high expressiveness, fidelity, and scalability. Given a property of interest, Aragog efficiently checks running systems for violations of the property with a scale-out architecture consisting of a collection of global verifiers and local monitors. To improve performance and reduce communication overhead, Aragog includes an array of optimizations that leverage properties of networked systems to suppress provably unnecessary system events and to shard verification over every available local and global component. We evaluate Aragog over several network functions including a NAT Gateway that powers Azure, identifying both design and implementation bugs in the process.

We present Quanto, a network-wide time and energy profiler for embedded network devices. By combining well-defined interfaces for hardware power states, fast high-resolution energy metering, and causal tracking of programmer-defined activities, Quanto can map how energy and time are spent on nodes and across a network. Implementing Quanto on the TinyOS operating system required modifying under 350 lines of code and adding 1275 new lines. We show that being able to take fine-grained energy consumption measurements as fast as reading a counter allows developers to precisely quantify the effects of low-level system implementation decisions, such as using DMA versus direct bus operations, or the effect of external interference on the power draw of a low duty-cycle radio. Finally, Quanto is lightweight enough that it has a minimal effect on system behavior: each sample takes 100 CPU cycles and 12 bytes of RAM.

this position paper advocates that storage hardware with built-in transparent compression brings new opportunities to innovate data storage management software (e.g., database and filesystem). Modern storage appliances (e.g., all-flash array) and some latest SSDs (solid-state drives) can perform data compression transparently from OS and user applications. Such storage hardware decouples logical storage space utilization efficiency from physical storage space utilization efficiency. this allows data storage management software intentionally waste logical storage space in return for employing simpler data structures, leading to lower implementation complexity and higher performance. Following this theme, we carried out three preliminary case studies in the context of relational database and key-value (KV) store. Initial experimental results well demonstrate the promising potential, and it is our hope that this preliminary study will attract more interest towards exploring this new research area.

Large service providers use load balancers to dispatch millions of incoming connections per second towards thousands of servers. there are two basic yet critical requirements for a load balancer: uniform load distribution of the incoming connections across the servers and per-connection-consistency (PCC), i.e., the ability to map packets belonging to the same connection to the same server even in the presence of changes in the number of active servers and load balancers. Yet, meeting both these requirements at the same time has been an elusive goal. Today's load balancers minimize PCC violations at the price of non-uniform load *** paper presents CHEETAH, a load balancer that supports uniform load distribution and PCC while being scalable, memory efficient, resilient to clogging attacks, and fast at processing packets. the CHEETAH LB design guarantees PCC for any realizable server selection load balancing mechanism and can be deployed in both a stateless and stateful manner, depending on the operational needs. We implemented CHEETAH on both a software and a Tofino-based hardware switch. Our evaluation shows that a stateless version of CHEETAH guarantees PCC, has negligible packet processing overheads, and can support load balancing mechanisms that reduce the flow completion time by a factor of 2-3x.

We report the design, implementation, and deployment of Lepton, a fault-tolerant system that losslessly compresses JPEG images to 77% of their original size on average. Lepton replaces the lowest layer of baseline JPEG compression--a Huffman code--with a parallelized arithmetic code, so that the exact bytes of the original JPEG file can be recovered quickly. Lepton matches the compression efficiency of the best prior work, while decoding more than nine times faster and in a streaming manner. Lepton has been released as open-source software and has been deployed for a year on the Dropbox file-storage backend. As of February 2017, it had compressed more than 203 PiB of user JPEG files, saving more than 46 PiB.

We describe the design and implementation of Open vSwitch, a multi-layer, open source virtual switch for all major hypervisor platforms. Open vSwitch was designed de novo for networking in virtual environments, resulting in major design departures from traditional software switching architectures. We detail the advanced flow classification and caching techniques that Open vSwitch uses to optimize its operations and conserve hypervisor resources. Many data center network (DCN) applications require explicit routing path control over the underlying topologies. this paper introduces XPath, a simple, practical and readily-deployable way to implement explicit path control, using existing commodity switches. At its core, XPath explicitly identifies an end-to-end path with a path ID and leverages a two-step compression algorithm to pre-install all the desired paths into IP TCAM tables of commodity switches. Our evaluation and implementation show that XPath scales to large DCNs and is readilydeployable. Furthermore, on our testbed, we integrate XPath into four applications to showcase its utility. © 2015 by the usenix Association. All Rights Reserved.
