Multi-FPGA systems (MFS's) represent a promising technology for various applications, such as the implementation of supercomputers and parallel and computational intensive emulation systems. On the other hand, dynamic reconfigurability expands the possibilities of traditional FPGAs by providing them the capability of adapting their functionality while still running to cope with runtime environment changes. these two research directions are merged together in this work, that describes a methodology for designing dynamic reconfigurable MFS's. In this paper a novel MFS design flow has been described, which makes use of blocks reuse through dynamic reconfigurability to make the implementation of large systems feasible even on multi-FPGA architectures with strict physical constraints. Functional to this goal is the development of an algorithm for the extraction of the isomorphic structures of a circuit that extensively exploits the hierarchy of the design.

QAM is a widely used multi-level modulation technique, with a variety of applications in data radio communication systems. Most existing implementations of QAM-based systems use high levels of modulation in order to meet the high data rate constraint of emerging applications. this work presents the architecture of a highly-parallel MPSoC-based QAM modulator that offers multi-rate modulation. the proposed MPSoC architecture is modular and provides flexibility via dynamic reconfiguration of the QAM, offering high data rates (more than 1 Gbps), even at low modulation levels (16-QAM). Furthermore, the proposed QAM implementation integrates a hardware-based resource allocation algorithm for dynamic load balancing.

Application of an extensible learner-adaptive environment to implement the Learning design specification is proposed. the design goal of the extensible learner-adaptive architecture is to provide a flexible learning environment that ensures both function extensibility as well as content reusability. the concept of a "courseware object," which is a program module used to incrementally implement various educational functionalities, has been introduced to achieve this goal. On the basis of this concept, implementation of an execution environment for the Learning design specification has been investigated. the results of this investigation indicate that a selflearning environment based on the learner-adaptive capability, such as SCORM 2004, could be seamlessly integrated with a collaborative learning environment based on the Learning design specification.

In nested virtualization, a hypervisor can run multiple other hypervisors withtheir associated virtual machines. As operatingsystems gain hypervisor functionality--Microsoft Windows 7 already runs Windows XP in a virtual machine--nested virtualization will become necessary in hypervisors that wish to host them. We present the design, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of high-performance nested virtualization on Intel x86-based systems. the Turtles project, which is part of the Linux/KVM hypervisor, runs multiple unmodified hypervisors (e.g., KVM and VMware) and operatingsystems (e.g., Linux and Windows). Despite the lack of architectural support for nested virtualization in the x86 architecture, it can achieve performance that is within 6-8% of single-level (non-nested) virtualization for common workloads, through multi-dimensional paging for MMU virtualization and multi-level device assignment for I/O virtualization.

this paper describes the design and implementation of Regional Land Information Integration Model (RLI2M). RLI2M is used to solve the problems of land business systems’ incompatibility in China due to numerous rigid land resources management laws and regulations. By separating the fundamental geo-spatial data and land business data, this model can bring out various business applications on one map. By enlarging the definition of operating Data Storage (ODS), RLI2M utilized a Land information operating Data Storage (L-ODS) to reduce redundant spatial data. therefore, the system respond time was reduced to a reasonable level. In addition, RLI2M integrates different business systems by using the message/return mechanism in UML even though each of them is different in inner workflows and data structure. this article also introduces an application based on RLI2M which was implemented in Liuzhou, China.

In this paper, a new hybrid monopole dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. Two different methods of impedance matching and dielectric shaping are applied to enhance the antenna performance. Both simulated and measured results show clearly an ultra wide-bandwidth operation of more than 10.5 GHz ranging from 1.5 GHz to 12 GHz. Furthermore, the radiation pattern of the proposed antenna is nearly omni-directional over the frequency operating bandwidth.

Grid computing is currently shifting toward a new processing model known as business services. the use of Grid technology, in fact, allows business companies to achieve an higher productivity, to decrease maintenance costs and to adapt to market demands with an increased customer satisfaction. To meet these challenges, Grid computing needs to address several issues in term of Quality of Service, Service accountability and Security. Our work, built on Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI), provides new capabilities (i.e. a strong security data storage) to be used on top of different Grid middlewares. the solution is specifically implemented on gLite and accomplishes the access to data storage Grid resources in a uniform and transparent way. the proposed approach is based on XML data encapsulation to store encrypted data and metadata as well as data owners, X509v3 certificates, AES keys, data size, and file format.
