Whether coming from a linear support vector machine, from logistic regression, or a quasi-Newtonian, the fine-tuning of the decision boundary in any given data set is essential to mitigate the loss term so that neural nets in image recognition can divide a data space into separate sections and correctly classify an input. By their very nature, neural nets are logically non-deterministic but rest on probability-weighted associations, which are adjusted recursively to enhance the similarity of intermediate results to the target output, the remaining difference being the error.' However, taxonomies should not be crisp but seen as fuzzy classes, allowing for hybrid exemplars that transgress category boundaries. the associative and similarity orientation of neural nets and deep learning makes such systems inherently creative in that misclassifications are at the basis of creative crossovers in information processing. this new conceptualization of network errors is supported by the ratings of 40 top-ranking designers of 20 image-recognition mistakes on the dimensions of creativity and innovativeness. © 2022 ACM.

We present the design and experimental characterization of a non-linear-time-invariant (i.e., non-LTI) electrically small antenna (ESA) operating at the high-frequency (HF) band. this non-LTI ESA is designed to overcome the problems associated with the fundamental bandwidth-efficiency product limitations that govern the performances of passive, linear-time-invariant (LTI) ESAs. the antenna comprises an electrically small radiator and a class-E switch-mode inverter and can transmit multiple types of digitally modulated waveforms in the HF band. Due to the large wavelength of electromagnetic waves in the HF band, practical HF antennas are usually electrically small. Because of their limited dimensions, passive electrically small antennas suffer from large quality factors and are hard to impedance match over wide bandwidths. the physical limitations that govern the bandwidth-efficiency products of ESAs are well known (e.g., the Chu, Wheeler, and Gustafsson limits) and have been thoroughly investigated and confirmed by many ESA designs. Different techniques, such as non-foster impedance matching, active matching, and direct-antenna modulation among others, have been investigated to overcome these limitations. these techniques do not violate the laws of physics. Rather, they violate the linear-time-invariance or passive operation assumptions used in the derivation of the fundamental physical limits. In a recent work (N. Behdad, D. Ludois, M. Mirmozafari, and M. Liben, "A class-E, switched-mode, non-LTI electrically-small transmit antenna design for overcoming the fundamental bandwidth-efficiency product limits, " 18th European Conf. the resonant (R) controllers are widely applied to reduce ripple current/voltage in three-phase systems with power electronic converters. the digital signal processor (DSP) implementation of R-control implies a time delay due to online computation and discretization effects. the time delay produces an associated phase lag and causes deterioration of the transient operating performance as well as of the system stability. To overcome this drawback, the two modified schemes are considered in this paper for an R-control component, and one of them have never been presented before. the comparative analysis of proposed R-controllers is performed by using Bode diagrams in a frequency domain. As can be seen from the simulation results, while operating frequencies are less than the resonant frequency, a transfer function with the first order numerator is more suitable choice. In contrast, at operating frequencies exceed the resonant frequency, the transfer function with the second order numerator should be used to achieve appropriate transient performance because its frequency response is closer to the conventional R-controller. For this reason, it is more preferable to employ the R-controller scheme for digital implementation that combines simultaneously two transfer functions with time delay compensation. © 2021 IEEE.

this paper proposes the use of active energy conservation technology, specifically the implementation of a high efficiency chilled-water plant, as a means to achieve the national "dual-carbon" target for an office building in Guangzhou, China. the cooling load of the building was dynamically simulated for 8760 hours per year. Several design strategies were employed for the high efficiency chilled-water plant, including variable-frequency technology for the chilled-water pump, cooling-water pump, and cooling tower, as well as variable temperature control technology for the cooling water. the energy consumption of the cooling source system, consisting of 3 types of centrifugal chillers (constant-frequency, variable-frequency and magnetic-suspension), was simulated for a year. Based on the simulation calculations, the maximum cooling load was determined to be 6883.3 kW, with a cooling load index of 108.04 W/m2. the annual cooling capacity of Option A (using a constant-frequency chiller), Option B (using a variable-frequency chiller), and Option C (using a magnetic-suspension chiller) were found to be 11.23 GW·h, 11.11 GW·h, and 11.11 GW·h, respectively. the annual power consumption for each option was determined to be 2.52 GW·h, 2.01 GW·h, and 1.99 GW·h, respectively. the annual energy efficiency ratio (EERa) of the cooling source system was also calculated, and found to be 4.46, 5.53, and 5.58 for Option A, B, and C, respectively. the results showed that Option B and C had a significant energy conservation advantage, with an increase in EERa of 24.0% and 25.1%, respectively, compared to Option A. To evaluate the initial investment and operating expenses of the three options, the static investment payback period (T) evaluation method was used. the T value for Option B and Option C was found to be 2.6 and 4.1 years, respectively, compared to Option A. this work presents a study of two analog front-end circuit architectures for heartbeat detection. Both circuits present an amplification block as the first stage, followed by a band-pass filter. In the first, the heartbeat detection is done using an adaptive threshold based on pulse-width, whereas the heartbeat detection in the second is done using a sample and hold to find the maximum and minimum peak of each beating. Both architectures are modeled in Verilog-A and simulated using real-world ECG signals with different characteristics. this work studies possible fundamental analog circuit blocks suitable for wearable implementation. It evaluates critical performances requirements from the analysis of the behavior simulations. It was verified that the first circuit can properly detect heartbeats as long as the input-referred noise is below 21 μV, whereas the second one ensures it until 30 μV. the low cutoff frequency can be approximately 10 Hz without compromising the signal's peaks, which means that these specifications can be relaxed substantially compared to systems intended to reconstruct the signal accurately. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a system-on-chip (SoC) design for incorrect face mask-wearing detection on a low-cost FPGA device. the SoC architecture realizes a VGG9 model to classify the incorrect face mask-wearing persons. To accelerate the processing time, we proposed a convolution IP that can compute 32 convolutional calculations in parallel. the experimental result shows that our SoC system can process up to 15 image frames per second at an operating frequency of 130Mhz and the coverage score achieved up to 93.3% in real-time.

this paper presents three different approaches for designing dc-ac converter based on GaN transistor. the proposed circuits could be used to design the transmitter side of Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems. the first two approaches are based on single-stage and double-stage Colpitts Oscillators, and the third one is based on an H-bridge converter. the three circuits have been simulated using LTSpice software, then implemented on PCB boards. the whole WPT system has been implemented, cased, and tested. © 2021 IEEE.

As building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are a promising application of decentralized PV systems, it becomes important to facilitate the methods of their performance assessment. However, implementing different BIPV modules in simulation environments is challenging as their types could hugely vary, starting from the PV cells type, the type of connections, number of cells columns and rows. these parameters define the structure of a BIPV module. Changing one of them will require remodeling all sub-models resulting in an increase in the time spent analyzing different BIPV modules in a design study. Moreover, when the input is performed manually, there may be manual-modelling-induced errors. this paper introduces a framework to automate detailed modeling of a complete BIPV system that includes separate electrical, thermal and airflow (in the case of ventilation cavity availability) models. the framework uses a Python script to parse and generate components for the projected modules based on the BIPV type and structure. the proposed framework was used to successfully generate BIPV Modelica-based models that were validated with real BIPV setups. the generated models can be integrated into building envelope models to run Building Energy Simulations. © 2023 *** rights reserved.
